I've been calling various local insurance offices for the last 4 weeks looking for home insurance…read morequotes. I found Burnem Insurance on the National Security Group 'Find an Agent' page. It's absolutely not their fault that I work 'non-traditional hours' ... but I do. So my first call was to the NSG toll free number and I was pretty disappointed that I had to call a local office to get a quote. Because I've been working from midnight - 5am / midnight - 8am for more than 15 years. And I like my work. I like being awake when the rest of the world is asleep and quiet. But I absolutely KNOW that it can be extremely difficult to take care of personal business when you work a non-traditional schedule. You've got to forego sleep, which means you might be sleepy and forgetful (at best) or cranky and irritable (at worst). OR - you might run into the situation wheare you can't reach the person you need to speak to - and then when they try to call you back - you're asleep. And they can't / won't email you ... but I digress. Kind of. My point is - I called a few numbers of the NSG website before I FINALLY got an living, breathing agent that was willing and able to talk to me and give me a quote (03/29/23). YAY. I was so excited. I thought I was finished. Her name was Diana. I explained my 'non-traditional' schedule to Diana during the call along with the property history and my deadline. Just as she was she prepared to give me the quote - she said her system froze up, but she assured me that she would get it over to me when the system came back up. She also said she'd send over other quotes during the interim. Since we'd discussed 'our situation' in detail / our deadline - and she said she'd update me before the end of the day / as soon as system came back up, I decided to email her as well - just to make sure she had my correct contact info. (d's and b's ... m's & n's tend to sound alike) Next morning, after not receiving response to email (even to confirm receipt), I reached out first thing. Receptionist said she was on another call. I asked if there was another agent that could give me the quote info, receptionist said she was unsure and put me on hold. Receptionist came back on the line, and said (in a very sing-song voice) that Diana said that 'she would get the info over to me WHEN SHE HAD IT, JUST LIKE SHE'D TOLD ME.' Um. Ok. Then the receptionist hung up on me as I was saying 'wait a minute.' I called back and told her that I was heading to bed in about an hour an to ask her to please just email me. But then I felt like I was just being a nuisance to this office, so I decided to call another office listed under 'find an agent.' So I called the Hardman Insurance on New Jesup Hwy. The agent I spoke to wasn't able to get the NSG quote either, but guess what? She took the initiative to call the company and find out what was going on and let me know IMMEDIATELY that there was a nation-wide system outage that was being worked on for NSG. She sent me multiple quotes for other policies as well. Diana did finally email 03/30/23 after 1pm to let me know that the quote for NSG still wasn't available. I think this office is very busy and does a brisk business so as as long as you aren't in a time crunch - or if you're local and able to drop by and not 5 hours away like me - you should be fine. 3 stars on yelp equals 'ok' or 'average' and 2 stars equals 'could have been better' - so I went with 2 stars. Had the agent sent a quick email that afternoon or even early that morning letting me know about the systemwide outage / and that I hadn't been forgotten about - this could have easily been a 4 or 5 star review (like the one I wrote next).

The worst part is, originally I was very excited about the opportunity to invest my money with…read moreEdward Jones. I think that I bought into those sappy ubiquitous commercials that highlight an Edward Jones financial advisor with an almost familial relationship with an investor. Making a speech a sons wedding, checking in with the family while they're on the daughters college exploration trip.... Nice, right? THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR EXPERIENCE! You'll be lucky if you have even monthly contact with your investor- as was my specific case with Ginny. Our introductory meeting was great, she was all energy and concern and the fake twinkle in her eye spoke of investment knowledge and charisma. Then that fell apart. As soon as she had my account on automatic deposit I stopped hearing from her. Calls weren't returned. The long term investment planning, portfolio management and trend watching that we talked about was watered down to automatic withdraws. For the reader- I am not a novice investor, but I'm also not a financial advisor. That help and someone to clue me in and alert me to what I wasn't considering or simply didn't know was what I was looking for. Ginny wasted my time and, to be realistic, my money-, the money that EJ's takes off the top for a simplistic monthly write up they e-mail you listing preferred stocks. One hour of Jim Cramer a week pretty much does the same thing. I don't know about EJ nation wide, but this experience was a bust. As is the usual disclaimer when investing- invest at this location at your own risk.

This office is awful. My Mother had a landlord policy for the last 3 years - and getting any sort…read moreof information from the staff was always a HUGE headache. Add to that - and it's probably the specific underwriter on this issue - we couldn't make online payments over $1,000 (because it's thru Western Union) and there was no way to do basic stuff - like login and check for declaration pages, file a claim, etc. So that's probably not Auten's fault - but what is their fault is - any time you have to call the office - the staff is generally unhelpful. "Oh, so-and-so was supposed to call you back? Not sure what happened and she's at lunch!" Or "She's off today!" And of course - 'she' never calls you back. And then when you call back - you get attitude. Several times - I was told that they got my email or voicemail, but their phone lines were out - and while that's a valid excuse - to not respond to a call that day - what's the issue when I'm calling back 3 days after your alleged phone lines were out? Same thing with emails - send an email - good luck getting a response. We requested a property be removed because it had been sold and instead they continued to bill my Mother for an entire year (it was an umbrella policy with 11 rentals - and it took them over a year to email me the declaration pages I asked for immediately after my Mother had signed and paid). Then the refund check was returned to underwriter because Auten submitted an incorrect mailing address. Keep in mind, the address Auten has on file is the same one my parents gave them over 7 years ago - and it has literally - never changed. And I had even discovered the incorrect mailing address and asked them to correct twice in the last 2 years. *This refund issue was brought to their attention roughly six months ago. We finally got one refund check last month - but we're still waiting on the second, promised, refund check. Shortly after my father's death - which is when we combined all the rentals into one policy (there were two other insurance providers before) - I had occasion to actually physically visit their offices and on that day - they appeared to have plenty of staff. They just seemed disinterested in actually working / helping people - and highly disorganized. The knew - because we discussed it up front - that because my Father had passed away - and my Mother was not able to manage the administrative part of his 'estate' and I am not 'local' - that it would be very important that they be able to communicate with me via phone, fax or email - preferably email. They assured us that it wouldn't be a problem. The only person who was ever even remotely helpful was Sissy (or maybe her name is Cici / CeeCee - can't remember). Nothing seems to be automated - and I know this because one specific staff member had the audacity to moan and complain and tell me how they have to pull paper files, scan declaration pages, etc - and THEN email them to me - likes it's my fault they're operating in the Stone Age. We took our business 'down the road' to State Farm - where we found friendly, knowledgeable, competent, RESPONSIVE office staff. They were able to get us a rental property policy that was actually considerably less expensive than the one we had with Auten. Add to that - we can actually login and view *.pdfs of the policy, and SHOCKINGLY ENOUGH - even make payments online - it's so much easier and so much better. Add to that, the State Farm rep even offered us equipment breakdown coverage (provides coverage on repair and replacements of appliances in those rental properties). I only wish we'd left them sooner.
