Very horrible take-away policy towards guests of the Fraser suites directly next door.

    Review Highlights - Maggie May's

The pub is on a corner of the trongate and there is a restaurant right at the back which overlooks Albion Street, there is a nightclub downstairs if that's your thing.

There were a few seating areas dotted around the outskirts of the room but we were down on the main floor. The sound was great and although I wasnt drinking the bar prices looked decent. £2 for a vodka and mixer! Overall I was pretty impressed with the classic grand as a gig venue and i would happily see more gigs here!

My…read morefriend is a huge Nashville fan and got tickets to Glasville so although I'm not a fan of the show (and can usually be found head banging at a heavy metal gig) I did my good friend deed and went with her. Showed our tickets at the entrance and headed up the stairs. The venue itself was a decent size. A few areas with tables/chairs and of course, the main floor, stage and bar. Not a huge venue, but a decent size. The bar was pretty busy but we got served really quickly. £1.80 for a can of diet coke? I'd have been better off ordering a vodka + mixer for £2.00. Anyway, we found a place to stand and waited for the band to come on. Sound quality if's not the best I've heard at a gig bit it was okay! Music wise, not bad but not really my cup of tea. They did put on a good show though and the crowd seemed to enjoy it! Not sure why 6ft tall men insist on standing infront of women who are barely over 5ft but don't get me started on that... Anyway, I'm not here to review the band or the ignorant habits of others. Toilets were clean and we managed to leave pretty quickly after the mad rush to the exit. My friend had a great time and I'm now looking for a head banging gig to take her too. Time to introduce her to my sort of music!!

We saw a bunch of musicians walking towards the venue and stopped a gentleman (who was absolutely phenomenal) to learn more and he shared that Mondays, this is the place to be for live music. Actually, in truth, I may have gotten word that this mission was not optional while en route to Scotland. In any case, there was no way we were going to pass up the opportunity to visit this Glasgow institution (deemed so because a friend of mine once sat next to Brad Pitt here) and partake of their £2 White Russians. There's free wifi to delight your internet-deprived drinking companions and plenty of people watching to be had. Our night was sadly cut short when smoke began to fill the room and I suggested we skedaddle. Once outside we discovered the street in process of being shut down and multiple firetrucks working on extinguishing the fire above. Past its prime Nice n Sleazy certainly is but that doesn't mean you shouldn't also put this bar on your Glasgow to-do list.

The Old Hairdressers was to be the venue of choice of my friends who are leaving the country to become Vikings well heading to the Scandavian lands. As we entered, the mezzanine was reserved for our pleasure and to enjoy our private wee party. This is the sister venue of Stereo located across the lane but the more I was looking around this place, really it is more like 'heroin chic'. This must be the poorer sister. The walls still showed concrete, plaster and wires, it just looks like they ran out of money and couldn't finish. Some people had added drawings to brighten it up. After staring at one for a while and couldn't figure out what it was, we realised it was builders measurements for something. Doh! The place is very hipster and the music was em... yeah, some kind of electronic instruments clashing. Who knows?! When many people where coming through our mezzanine level we wondered what lay beyond the door. You can't help but have a wee nosey. We discovered toilets and another room for a venue for gigs. It's like a wee tardis this place, I tell thee. They have a no bad selection with local brewers Williams Brothers a-go-go and some tasty fruit ciders available, which they ran out of quickly. Boo! It was a good space for our party, although the music wasn't to our taste, lots of hipsters and running out of fancy fruity cider, it still was a good experience.

Now we had intended…read moreto stay here for the drink but quickly after arriving I noted that thangs were going on. Turns out they were setting up for a charity night of some sorts. On any other night I'd have been up for that, but this meeting required chatting and music/talking people in the background was just not an option.... waffle waffle So the place! Well, it's rough, ready, basic... but cool. Limited selection of booze, but at a quick glance it's decent enough with two Williams Bros beers showing up as the stand out options. It's not a massive place with a limited ground level (tiny bar) and a small upstairs mezzanine. Now, this is not a negative comment. In relation to Stereo it's tiny, but somewhere like the Pot Still is somewhat comparble in space and format... but certainly not style! Is it a hipster den? Aye, most likely but to be fair, I can mostly be found donning waistcoats and carrying a vintage satchel these days, so the words kettle, pot, calling and black kind of spring to mind. It needs a return visit, but I shall be doing so!
