When it was at risk of closing in 2013, I helped with the community-build of the new park and it was an amazing experience. i love how the new design retains many of the old elements, while also being higher so that adults can fit on the structure (the roofs on the old structure were too short for adults to accompany kids). Also in this new design they used the plastic-like wood for decking and pressure treated wood so it will last much longer than the old design.

Wide open parks for playing fetch (yes, most peeps think their pup is perfectly mannered, so expect off-leash antics), picnic tables, rock faces for bouldering or Little People, Big World belay practice and a sweet lake sporting - GASP! - cattails. Cattails, people! At five or six spots around the aquatic perimeter, stone steps take you down to the water, which is boring in the warmer months, but come (oh I don't know) January, it's positions you perfectly to grab a paper thin piece of slowly forming ice to chuck along a thicker patch, thus creating that tympanic theremin sound nobody can describe but everyone knows. I love the proximity to Mass Ave and Route 2 without feeling like it's near either. I love the broken down Vita Course stations that are now just decomposing, wooden posts and I love whizzing stale bread through cattail stalks, sending poofs of velvety fibers exploding in to the crisp air, only to send the damaged crust gliding gracefully across way-too-thin ice to live its bird-attracting life at the center of the lake. Found this & through it in the Bookmarks, was out yesterday & it was Hot so we decided to take a look... Pulled up right in front of the gate & parked which was great... Was instantly pleased just from looking from the street... Love that the whole park is gated and all the parents there used them every time they went in & out... (I have a 2 YO that loves to run away) There are TONS of tables (some in shade) there are 2 huge playhouse thingys, one is for smaller kids & my son LOVED IT. We walked over to try out the water sprinkler (which is hand activated) but he doesnt love water soo much... There is a cool see saw but he had no desire to try it out, so back to the slide we went... Hate that this park is soo out of the way from home, but if we are ever in the area guarantee we are stopping in.

A half dozen tables with chairs for lunch or Connect Four, water fountains peppered throughout and a clean, untarnished feel makes this recent renovation worth swinging the kids by. Docking a star for limited shade and sand making it a bit slippery and dangerous for climbing up the surfaces around the slide. Worth a visit though!

Ginn Field - how you've changed…read more This is a big soccer/softball field in Winchester, near the Wedgemere T station. The soccer and softball areas haven't changed in 20 years. The playground has. When I was a kid, it was all rusty swingsets and one of those deadly spinner-things - remember them? Almost broke my neck on that. It was replaced years ago by a giant wooden 2-story playground structure. Kids LOVE it. Got a number of slides, sandbox, seperate small "fort" for the small ones, swings. It's in OK shape. I am always surprised that the kids don't get splinters here. It's WOOD. But it's been so worn down over the years that it's all smooth. Private parking lot - not terribly big but at least they got it - assuming you can find the entrance (hint: go to the post office). The playground structure was all the rage when it was built - but it's dated now. Wood? All the new ones have plastic and steel. Ice cream truck will stop by, though. Side note: remember the flood of '96? Ginn Field filled up like a bowl of cereal. I'm not kidding. It's sort of a bowl-shape in and of itself, and it's right next to the Aberjona River, which itself used to flow straight through where the current field is now. Just remember, that where you're standing, was once 10 feet under in water and sewage..... yum.

There are a number of different trails to explore that are well marked/kept (similar to all Trustees spaces). After some rain in the area, some of the areas are a bit muddy, so one may want to keep an eye on the weather/bring hiking shoes or other shoes you don't mind getting some mud on. You can also hear the hum of the freeway nearby. I also saw a wild turkey on this hike, which I trailed behind for about 10 minutes, haha! Glad to run into a fellow hiker on this trail! :)

There is much more to do here than skateboarding. It is an awesome spot to walk, especially the back portion of the park away from 2A ... which is beauitful and parallels a river. Great around fall foliage time as well. You can combine this walk with Whipple hill reservation which is just down the street to the parking area trail head. Overall it is a great park.
