The downtown area of Sherbrooke has something really special: a lot of buildings have big murals…read morepainted on them that give the optical illusion of windows, doors, and people being there. I loved walking around for a couple hours and discovering the murals. It was one of my favorite parts of my visit to Sherbrooke! I applaud free public art. You can get a paper map from the tourist center that has the murals marked. Additionally, "Murals of Sherbrooke, the self-guided Tour", is available on the free app BaladoDiscovery. The suggested starting point is the corner of Wellington and Frontenac Streets. (I started in the middle though). It's about 3 miles to walk the whole tour. Just as a side note, I walked alone and felt safe, although I was approached by a few times by non-threatening panhandlers and passed several people sleeping on the street.

Fall Back Who knew a…read morerest area could be a "must-stop" if one ever finds themselves on a roadie to Rangeley, but yet here we are. Rest areas are usually for stretching, picnicking, and pooping (not necessarily in that order fwiw), and while this place certainly allows for all of the above, it's the nature that makes this a top-notch hiking spot, as well. The Good: *Several pit toilets (don't look down) *Picnic tables *Parking lot isn't huge but it's ample enough. *Series of small cascading water falls with trails along the edges and access to the water. I'm honestly not sure how far back the trails go, but by the time I got to the top it looked like you could keep going for a bit. *Great spot for leaf-peeping The Meh: *The road around the lot is gravely, so don't drive too fast or you'll kick up rocks. The Ugly: *Those pit toilets are...0_o *Yelp Mods who can't read a map to save their lives. I've already had them adjust the pin on here several times and they never get it right--there's LITERALLY A PIN on the map that says "Small Falls Rest Area" and they just stick it in arbitrary places. I'm pretty sure they're fucking with me at this point. 0_o Conclusion: If you find yourself in Rangeley Maine or thereabouts, then be sure to add this place to your list of things to see.

Colebrook is a quaint mountain town in the very north of New Hampshire.... You can literally drive…read morehalf an hour and be in Canada! It is as picturesque as you imagine, surrounded by beautiful mountains and even has a small park with a waterfall that looks straight out of a vacation video. One drawback is the cold weather. It legit snows here straight through May. The one thing that is NOT "cute" is the main road that runs right through the center of it. It is a highway frequent by 18 wheelers carrying goods across the country. Stephen King's sister lives here and I think this might be the road featured in pet Sematary. THE DEAL: if you love the mountains, Colebrook is your kind of town. Simply pick a place off the main highway for video-worthy views!

We chatted…read morewith several people who gave us great directions to not only Beaver Brook Falls but also on how to drive to Canada since its only a few miles away! We stopped at a couple of places and everyone was super nice to us. The park offers a bathroom too. Summary: A nice quaint town near the border that has more to offer than you realize. Well worth the trip up. Even though we didn't see any Moose (Although we did meet someone who had photos of one).

The old shops lining the street still look the same as they did 100 years ago. That's not to say they aren't kept up - certainly many of them are up-to-date and are really fun to browse. The main park in the center of town is great to walk around - not too big, not too small. This town has still maintained it's old charm while the modern era has crept in. You'll find the mega-store chains a little further down the road. Some nice older homes in the area. The pace here is slower than where you live, and you should be grateful for that.

And the Equator Line sign at the former Doc Grant's restaurant in Rangely is just that. It's literally just a big, old board that says you're (theoretically) halfway between the Equator and the North Pole (being 3,107 miles away from each). There's literally nothing to do here except look at a sign... but THIS is exactly the kind of stuff that brings me joy. I'm sure we looked super silly as we stood there taking a ton of photos, but I don't mind. Because I got to stand on a milestone along the 45th parallel and I'm a geek. So there. (Fun fact I learned: Perry, ME - which is about as far east you can get in the USA - is considered to be the first place to have marked the halfway location in 1896 via a pink granite "monument" [more like an upright slab]; now, lots of places in the northern US and various parts of Canada have them!)
