We stayed at Mahekal for my weekend birthday celebration. We stayed at one of the palapa bungalows with a garden view. We found it very spacious for two people and a few feet away from the beach. We did not select all-inclusive options since we wanted to explore and experience the bustling town of Playa del Carmen. Overall, it was a good experience for us to stay in this resort. Will definitely recommend it to family and friends.

I travel to Playa del Carmen often for business and pleasure--I own a small taqueria near the Mahekal resort--and without a doubt, Mahekal is always my first choice. As someone originally from Mexico, staying here truly feels like coming home. Over the past two years, I've stayed at Mahekal about four times, and every visit has been exceptional. The staff are incredible--warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. They always make me feel like part of the Mahekal family, and I've met many other guests who return again and again for the same reason. The resort is beautiful, and the food is fantastic--especially the octopus, one of my favorites! The drinks, the ambiance, the service--it's all top-notch. Whether you're traveling for business, vacation, or a bit of both, Mahekal truly has it all. Thank you to the entire staff for always making my stays so memorable. I'll be seeing you again very soon! -- Rosa Conn.

Just got back home from staying here with 4 other couples for a friend's 50th birthday. Although the location was excellent, that was the only positive. Every person had issues with their rooms, and for around 400 a night with resort fee included, we felt like we got robbed. The first room we were in had broken AC and they wanted us to wait a whole day for it to get fixed, we had to politely demand a new room. Once we got into that room, the AC was good, but then the toilet was constantly running and making noise. Mosquitos were everywhere (although that's really no fault of the hotel, they maybe should think about fumigating). There was no hotel beach. Food was pretty poor, not worth your money to do all inclusive, or pay to eat at the hotel period. All I can say is shop around before booking a room here.

Excellent, all-inclusive optional resort! Las Olas is the lunch/ breakfast service. On the beach at Playa Del Carmen. In a natural setting. Many awesome features, too many to mention. But if you want to relax by the beauty of the beach in Riviera Maya, this is a great option!! Did I mention delicious meals and great service!!

Where to begin with this incredible experience. I had never done an all inclusive resort before as I was always leary of getting stuck with low quality food but based on the solid reviews I decided to take a leap of faith and that was one of the best decisions!! Let's start with the consistency of quality of service across the board. The staff was super accommodating, friendly and prompt. The food and drink was the same level of excellence throughout the entirety of our stay. We did the half board so that we can enjoy some meals outside the resort as well. The location is just perfect. Away from bustling 5th Ave but close enough to walk (less than 5 min) tucked away on a jungley road with some of the best restaurants of Playa. They have 3 pools. One with a swim up bar, one right by Fuego restaurant (fave one at the resort) and an infinity pool near Las Olas restaurant where a DJ occasionally spins during the day with a chill out Miami vibe.. Agave is a neat lil bar with the best cocktails on the resort, some lounge seats, pool tables, shuffle board and ping pong. Both Agave and Fuego had some beautiful live music on certain afternoons and evenings. The room was just a lovely Palapa room with a thatched roof and a hammock to lay lazily outside and enjoy the view. No TV but that was a perk for me personally. The beach is literally steps away and always guarded. Covid safety was absolutely practiced there and offering a free antigen test onsite is such a personal touch. I'm really in love with this place and just can't wait to go back!!!

One of my favorite spot to eat on the beach at playa del carmen! What a nice view on the beach! The place is tourist paradise with their big hit, stucked between their nice pool and the beach. The food was absolutely perfect (I had ceviche) and the staff was really kind. Will go back there for sure!

Beautiful resort, amazing staff and they did everything to make our anniversary stay special. We had the beach front room with a plunge pool. The resort had a special hand painted sign outside our room. The staff was so quick. They even offered us same day covid-19 testing. We had a security guard around/ outside our room at all times so we felt very safe! We loved our room! The food at the restaurant was amazing! Definitely recommend !!!

Amazing location, this resort will make you feel like you are in a remote jungle by the beach but outside the gate you are also located at the best neighborhood in PDC with many amazing local flavors and convenience stores, including several large grocery stores. No wonder many expats are flocking to this area of town. Their beach and pool side restaurant is to die for! The view alone was amazing. Staff were super friendly. Their security guard is taking their job very seriously so if you are not a guest of the hotel don't you dare walking past their fence because they will capture you and refuse your entry. You used to be able to go eat at their beach front restaurant even if you are not staying here but not anymore! That makes you feel exclusive because you know you are not eating with the peasants.

I was not approached by anyone offering to sell me anything or attend presentations. Staff were super friendly and helpful during our stay. There's a main pool and a quiet pool. So you have an option where you want to be based on your interest. Night shows were great with some fantastic performers. I wish that there was more Mexican themed shows or music but I guess they try to accommodate that the majority of guests were from Canada and USA. Some of the restaurants rotate being open for dinner. Your best bet is to make reservations ahead of time. You can always show up but might have to wait depending on the time. Overall food was good. Drinks were ok but as a social drinker, I wasn't impressed with my 1-2 drinks/day during my stay. I think I had one drink that I found really good. Beach area is not private and you might have people approach you to sell you stuff or services. A polite "no, thank you" works great. Location and proximity to 5th Avenue made it a great place to explore the area. Although filled with tourists, you also get some local interactions. I would come back to this resort in the future.

While the property has a lot of potential, it ultimately missed the mark, especially for a resort of this size. The biggest issue was the constant selling. I understand upselling is part of the business, but having to say no repeatedly throughout the stay was exhausting. Even after interacting with the same staff members multiple times, nearly every conversation felt like a sales pitch. We also received early morning calls to the room for non-urgent matters and promotions, which was disruptive and frustrating. Despite being advertised as all-inclusive, there were frequent pushes to upgrade to higher-end alcohol, exclusive experiences, and add-ons. I would much rather pay more upfront for a truly inclusive experience than feel harassed during my vacation. It really affected the overall vibe of the trip. The food was average and not memorable. The highlight was the coffee shop, which was open most of the day and consistently good. Poolside dining is very limited. You cannot casually order snacks like chips and guacamole while at the pool and instead have to go to one of the restaurants. Also be cautious with food near the pool, as wildlife grabbed my pizza while I was sitting there. Overall, this resort could be great, but the aggressive upselling, average food, and limited poolside service made it disappointing for an all-inclusive experience.

We would have to walk by a small snack area and bar everyday that we didn't have access to. Apparently there's a small private pool too but that's unnecessary. It's not worth it. Second, from 7am till about 6pm food is extremely limited. There's a buffet and an outdoor restaurant both of which are sub par. Also, from about the same time frame there's nothing to do in the resort. Your options are the pool, spend a bunch of money at the spa, or stay in your room. There's really no activities available outside of that. Also, the reservation system for restaurants sucks. If you don't make one in advance, you literally gamble on getting to eat what you want. You're on vacation and plans change but that means having to settle for less by their standards. Third, is the service. It's very sub par. They don't care to going above and beyond with accommodations or helping you with things. You get half answered questions and unclear responses. You supposedly get a concierge but unless you listen to their time share pitch, they won't help you. No, one seemed to be attentive or care about the experience. Restaurant workers and bar tenders are outstanding, so shout out to them. With that said we're not coming back and I recommend you doing your research on somewhere else.

Outside of the gates is a whole different story. It's pretty intense out there with the police being fully militarized. They have machine guns mounted to trucks they stand on and ride around just for the presence, there are tons of people wanting to take advantage of dumb Americans at every turn. Watch yourself if you travel alone in Cozumel. It's designed solely to attract tourists. That draws out some colorful personalities in my experience. Traveled with ease from the oh so lovely Cancun International Airport. Interesting spot to say the least. We were warned not to communicate or accept anything from anyone except our driver. We arrive to the hotel really excited, somewhat cautious, and ready to have some fun. We were greeted at the front door and we handled a little paperwork, and then we were taken to our room by a wonderfully helpful chap. He showed us around the room, gave us a quick run down of the grounds, described the amenities, food situation, and some other pleasantries. He talked about the dining situation and gave us a map tour so we're would know how to navigate the grounds. They have a cool locker system in each room. The service folks just leave your anything in the locker and you don't have to interact with them at all. They just let you know it is there. Nice feature. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous! It is so well kept, the attention to every detail goes so far beyond a normal resort. They comb the beach every morning. I kid you not. They seriously rake the entire shoreline before dawn. They also run a tractor to clear the seaweed from the beach. Insane dedication to making your stay great. The restaurant situation is so fucking rad. They have just about any food you might want covered between the what seemed like a dozen restaurants at the resort. I ate and ate and ate and ate.... I ate between meals, I ate between those meal and snack times. We had so much food!! Every dinner was 5-8 courses. I'm positive I could stay right here forever and never leave. Food heaven!! Spa is great too! It's a lovely relaxing oasis of self care. That's another review, but it's great. Don't take my word for it. Go for yourself! Cold plunges are good for the soul! They have shows every night in the theater and there was some sort of event being held every night in the common area. Some were private, others public. They construct stages, eating areas, weddings, happy hours with bands, and even corporate conferences. It's pretty wild the amount to building and tearing things down the do here. We rented a cabana bed one day and at the end of the day the built and transformed the beach into an elaborate engagement spot with candles everywhere, flowers, and a table for two. Very nice touch! All in all a fantastic experience. My only gripe was that the room smelled of mildew and/or too music moisture. C said something about it when we got there but it wasn't that noticeable to me. When I got home and unpacked my suitcase is when it hit me. There were clothes that I did not wear, just sat in the drawers and repacked, they all had to be washed as they smelled terrible after being packed and transported back home. I would come back monthly if possible. Nice place. '26 - 74

We chose this resort for our honeymoon expecting a romantic, stress-free experience. Unfortunately,…read morewhat we received was misleading, disappointing, and poorly handled. We paid for a Junior Suite Ocean View, clearly confirmed in our reservation. What we were given instead was a Junior Suite Tropical View with no ocean view at all -- not even partial. This is not a matter of interpretation; it is a clear mismatch between what was sold and what was delivered. From the beginning, the hotel was aware this was our honeymoon. We did not expect special treatment, but we did expect honesty and follow-through. Other honeymoon couples received gestures and attention; we received none -- and more importantly, we didn't even receive the room category we paid for. After reporting the issue, we were told the hotel was "fully booked" and that management would "look into it." Days went by with no resolution. Eventually, a supervisor explicitly offered a partial refund for the room category difference and a one-day beach cabana as a gesture. We accepted this in good faith. At checkout, the supervisor was suddenly "in a meeting." We provided our card details to another staff member so the refund could be processed. After departure, we followed up multiple times and received absolutely no response. No confirmation, no email, no refund, nothing. To be clear: * The food and general service were fine * The beach is beautiful * But selling an Ocean View and delivering a Tropical View is unacceptable, especially for a honeymoon * Offering a refund and then going silent is worse This experience seriously damaged our trust. A resort that markets itself around romance and special occasions should do better -- or at the very least, be honest and responsive. We would not return and cannot recommend this property based on how this situation was handled.

I never had any bites until I left the resort my last night for a wedding ! - food: We ate at both restaurants and the food was excellent. Especially the shrimp and octopus dishes. Cocktails were done right! Not watered down like other places . - beach - this resort seems to have the best beach area as compared to nearby resorts with actual sand The pool is a perfect size and was never crowded . Pepe and staff always took care of you. -gratuity - 16% service was added automatically to your bills. This is not an all inclusive , for the quality of service we made sure to bring $USD to add tip for everyone. They all work so hard in the heat to make your experience memorable! -Spa - Splurge for this! Best way to start our days first thing with massages and facials . You can also use the jacuzzi and steam room daily without services. I frequent Burke Williams and their masseuses are good , strong too ! They did our services outdoor for couples in this serene area with a fountain running. -room - we enjoyed the premium villas, super spacious with walk in closet, shower and bath tub . All the villas are close so a short walk to the pool - There is a little bass coming from the next door resort's DJ at night, but when I closed the windows , it was very muffled and did not bother us at all. - long drive from main road - so expect a secluded spot . They will call you a taxi that gets there in 20 min. Download WhatsApp and text the same taxi will take you back. Felt safe ! We can't wait to come back someday! Definitely highly recommend this place for all couples who just need to relax.

From the welcome coconut drink and cool towels to the thorough tour ( thanks Claudia) ,check in was a great experience. Bellmen we're very friendly and helpful. And our villa was just gorgeous! Heated plunge pool, hammock, and more great you as you enter the area. You are in the jungle, so there is a lot of natural privacy. Inside the villa, you will be caught up in the romantic vibe thanks to the sweet and decadent decor. Outdoor shower brings you close to nature. Many special touches await. Poolside is another area to be spoiled- by Pepe and crew. They will get you anything you want, no need to lift a finger. And the wait staff at Coral restaurant are very thorough. They seem more like personal butlers rather than waiters, taking the time to get to know their guests by name, and learning their food and drink preferences. This area is also beautiful, with a view of the ocean. And the spa is very relaxing, access to the spa facilities including the steam room, jacuzzi is complimentary with your stay. Viceroy isn't without its flaws. The small beach is barely swimable due to the coral/rocks. And though they work to remove the seaweed, if you come from May-Nov that will be somewhat of a pain ( the whole area not just here). And there is music that drifts over from the next door hotel which at times annoys. It wasn't too bad while we were here, but was noticiable. There are mosquitos and rainforest animals around, so if you're not okay with seeing agouti while eating breakfast on your patio, this isn't your place. And yes it's pricey. Nevertheless the quality, service, and beauty of this resort make up for any issues. We didn't want to leave!

It is a huge resort with 18 included restaurants, bars, pools, and beaches. You also have access to all of the different parks which is an amazing perk. Our room was pretty big with two queen beds. It had a jacuzzi and hammock in the balcony. We didn't have a stellar view, but I can only imagine if you did. I also never thought that I would say this, but room service came way too many times. They would come 2 to 3 times a day, and once even asked if we needed room service at 9pm LOL. We mainly ate at the buffet, which did not need a reservation, and it was pretty good. Our overall consensus was that the food here was very diverse and yummy, but was too salty. We don't drink, so I have no comment on that. The infinity pool was pretty nice, but I wish it had a direct view of the beach. There was a river surrounding the hotel, which blocked the view. The beach was pretty accessible though, and the water was very clear. There was a lot of seaweed in it though and it was more rocky than sandy which made it hard to lay our towels down. Overall, though, the service was great and we had a great time here. I would definitely recommend it because we didn't pay for the trip haha.

I was pleasantly surprised how clean the resort is and how courteous the service was. Most employees speak English. I speak Spanish fairly well so I had no issues communicating. There are extensive food options including all day buffets, restaurants, group dining and room service. The buffets lean toward traditional Mexican / Yucatán fare, however, it's not overly spicy. The bakery items are fantastic and not overly sweet. The only Michelin restaurant in Mexico is here at Xcaret. So check that out if you happen to visit here. There are several parks which include water adventures, ATV rentals, zoo & aquariums, history, zip lining etc. I was able to go to the Xplor park for an afternoon when I had some downtime. It was interesting and I had a good time. The cemetery was fascinating. I posted some pictures below. There is no shortage of pools here and every hotel section has its own. The main one that over looks the beach area fills up quick in the am. There are two gyms I believe and a spa which books up quickly so plan in advance. The beach is small and it's a bit of a walk to get to. Chairs and loungers get snapped up quickly early in the day. Security here is "air tight." What I mean the grounds are patrolled by armed guards and there are several checkpoints on the roads going in and out. You have to present your wrist band when entering and leaving with the exception of being on the bus. I was there for a corporate trip and we utilized a rental car to transport our executive staff to and from the airport. Even with the stringent security, the process was fairly easy for us. Checkout is a little odd. You go to the lobby with the letter (bill) that they slide under the door the night before you leave. If you owe nothing, you hand over the letter and wrist band and you're on your way. Large groups that arranged transit via bus was a whole different matter. They had those people wait on long lines to hand over the letter and wrist band and then wait for the bus. It looked a bit convoluted and confusing. Overall I personally had a good experience. The food and service were top notch in my opinion. The time I was able to enjoy the pool and park were nice as well. This was a work related trip and I'll definitely keep it in mind for a future vacation.

I highly encourage anyone…read moreplanning to stay at this resort to reserve under privilege as that is the only way you will obtain somewhat your moneys worth. Location: approx 45 min away from airport. We booked our own transportation bc directly with them it would be a bus and could take up to two hrs. Resort: initially when we arrived they gave us a tour which seemed a really long distance from lobby to beach area but you get used to it after being there for some days. Loved the different areas you have to choose from to enjoy poolside. The water at all pools was cold unfortunately we didn't have the best weather late Feb. The resort itself is well put together lots of different areas to hang out and places to visit. I enjoyed the coffee shop and crepe station. Kids were able to play at the arcade (for additional cost). The fresh juice bar beachside was refreshing. Bowling was fun and so was the sports bar which turns into somewhat a nightclub after hours. Room: Privilege Junior Suite - pool view. Room had decent amount of space and for 3 adults they did offer 2 queen beds and a pull out. The rest room area is super tiny not enough room for movement. Shower was ok and had a separate tub area. Patio had a spa/jacuzzi area which didn't function. Food: with the privilege deal you have your own lounge you can enjoy breakfast à la carte or buffet style. My personal favorite was the smoked salmon bagel, everything else tasted pretty basic to me. They really don't mix it up and offer the same options every single day. Bc you have privilege your butler pretty much takes care of reserving dinner, however, if you are in a large group as we were, good luck. Order of restaurants(best-worse): Margarita, Steakhouse, Pez Vela, Italian. Our last dinner was at the privilege lounge and took advantage of our coupons (provided by butler), had a nice cut of filet mignon. Service: this is the part that needs A LOT of help. The service members tend to be rude and ignore the Latino community. You don't get greeted with a smile like the rest of the guest. This was one of the main reasons I will not be returning. Drinks at the resort were ok. They do have more of a variety when you go to the upscale restaurants but unless you ask for premium alcohol they won't give you good quality. Personally I will not be returning. I rather go to puerto Vallarta and save the travel distance. It's not much different.

The beach, which was one of the main reasons we chose this resort, was completely covered with sargassum (seaweed). The amount of sargassum made it impossible to enjoy the beach or swim in the ocean. Unfortunately, this was not clearly communicated before our arrival, and it significantly impacted our vacation experience. In addition, the hotel's location and transportation options made it difficult to go anywhere without significant inconvenience. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation became frustrating and stressful. The overall experience did not meet the expectations set by the hotel's advertising or reviews. Between the unpleasant smell, the unusable beach, and the lack of accessibility, we left feeling very dissatisfied. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this hotel and would not choose to stay here again.
