This has happened so often it's infuriating. I once called every other day for six days, leaving 3 messages. No one ever called back, and finally I was able to get through. The receptionist acknowledged they had my messages, but never apologized for not calling back B). The office is only open a few hours per week on random days. On one occasion the first available appointment was a month from the date of my contacting them. At my second visit the doctor was "running late". One hour and forty minutes late. Unacceptable for non emergency situation and setting. Cramped waiting area with so few chairs several of us had to wait outside the office in a courtyard. C). At every visit the doctor asked why I was there? Hellloooo, the reason for scheduling was mentioned each time. Stage Four melanoma, persistent hives. Caladryl was his treatment, no blood work, no biopsy, no allergy or health history done. The doctor did a marginal exam the first time and never did another! Each visit was concluded within 10 minutes. D). Dr. Shapiro was arrogant and flippant. I ignored it the first time, but it was his MO - each and every time. Impatient and dismissive of my questions and concerns. When I inquired about a treatment protocol given my symptoms I was told he "couldn't see into the future". Conclusion: Worst experience ever with a physician.

Thought it was cool. While a tattoo of cartoon character looked OK on a teenager, it didn't on a 40 year old. Decided to get it removed. The doctor who undertook this monumental task, did the first session with me, and then decided he likes Tennessee better than Hawaii and one day just took all his lasers and left. And I was left with a half-removed tattoo, which looked even uglier than the original. Fast forward 5 years, and now I am a 45 year old who is ashamed to take his shirt off during yoga or on the beach. Thank goodness I ran into Dr Miyashiro at Hilo Laser Skincare. Dr Miyashiro was very informative, friendly and easy to talk to. After talking to him I have finally decided to go through with the removal of my ugly tattoo. Conveniently located in Hilo, Dr Miyashiro's Clinic occupies a modern, spacious building. The waiting area looks very clean and professional, with numerous staff helping with appointments. I had my temperature taken, and received a big sticker that identified me as a patient who has been checked. After filling up some paperwork, Lindsey, who is Dr Miyashiro's assistant took me to the laser treatment room. The room had a minimalistic decor, but it was equipped with the state of the art laser equipment. Dr. Miyashiro analyzed the tattoo and warned me that if might hurt a little bit. Turns out I barely even felt the procedure. It was virtually painless. He was super quick, the whole process took like 15 minutes. On the way out I was able to schedule my next treatment, after my skin heals. I will definitely see Dr Miyashiro again, and I highly recommend his clinic for anyone seeking a tattoo removal, skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing or injections. However she went dark purple and it turned out very uneven. On my top left side I have a big mark with a line extending through the middle of my lip. the color and outline is uneven. My bottom lip has a big ring around it and it is light on the inside. Shirnel assured me she could fix it. She did saline injections then without my knowing beforehand, she topped it with peach ink. This then resulted in large blisters filled with peach ink that was seeping out. I had to go to urgent care and get medication. From my current understanding, it isn't recommended for the saline to be used for ink removal on the lips and why she chose to top it with ink, I have no idea, but it was not a good choice. I contacted Shirnel and told her about my need to go to urgent care and she didn't ask if I needed any reimbursement for the visit or medication. I told her I was really unhappy with how my lips were looking and asked 2 times if I could make an appointment to speak with her in person and also wanted her to look at my lips and she straight up ghosted me. I understand mistakes happen but the thing that made me the most upset was how she choose to just ignore what she did to me. the result of this has left me so uncomfortable about how I look, spending lots of time covering it up as much as I can, and having to deal with people making comments to me about my lips. I chose to go to Shirnel bc she had good reviews. it was a horrible experience and I wish the mistake wasn't so permanent . I also wish she took responsibility for what she did to me instead of ignoring the problem at hand.

The…read moreDard Side Of Addiction or The Dark Side Of Everything This started as a review for our former doctor who unceremonisly removed us from her patient list. No reason that we can discern beyond a few statments made to me about my pain medicine that I have been taking for two years after unsuccessful full hip repacement & subsequent unsuccessful spinal decompression surgery. My wife, who was also her patient was dismissed (we quess) because she has been taking various pain medication for approximately eight years because of her chronic regional pain syndrome. She also has had an unsuccessful herniated disk spinal surgery approximately eight years ago. We are both seventy three years old & also suffer from several less serious but common maladies that accompany our age. Twice our former doctor advised me "these drugs are not for fun, they're for pain." Neither my wife or myself have ever abused our pain medication. Never have we asked for more pain medication. Never have used my pain medication for "fun." Neither has my wife. Our medical & prescription records are easlily accessed by our medical team. We take no illegal drugs. I may be the culprit that caused our former doctor to drop us. The two times she remarked about me "having fun" with my medications I didn't respond. She had previously referred us to a pain clinic which were under another the care of nurse practitioner who handled our pain prescriptions so I assumed that since she was free from that burden, there was no further reason to talk about it. We have been under this PCP's care for about 2 years & had no issues. Our visits were mostly jovial with some serious levity. Aha. Maybe that's it. Perhaps she thought that that levity meant we were not serious about our recovery. Several monther ago in a phone conversation I had said in jest, "this is your pain in the ass elderly couple." And she said, and I'm paraphrasing -- "you're not even close to my pain in the ass patients." And as I said, our visits, although sometimes broaching serious medical issues tended to be a bit positive & upbeat. Once, she ask if I was doing my physical therapy & I said yes, "Getting in & out of my car. Opening packages. Getting up off the sofa, etc.. " It was meant as a joke but . . . I do have respect for physical therapy -- our daughter & daughter-in-law own a physical therapy fitness center. A bit of my history which I think my be relevant to this issue. I was a hippy in the 60's & I was in many rock & roll bands -- and it WAS a "sex drugs & rock & roll" and I lived it. I was married to my first wife &. at 25 she became pregnant & our son was born in 1978. The moment the nurse handed him to me & I beheld an infant that I seemed, for lack of a better term -- a mini me. I saw that I had a chance to give this little guy a much better life than I had survived. My ex-wife, my son's mother was a party girl. We divorced when our son was about five, went thru a bitter custody battle which I lost. I was devastated. A few months later my ex-wife brought him over for a regular weeked visit & never came back to pick him up. So from age five, it was him & me. I quit drinking & drugs because I was afraid I might lose him. A few years later I got a job at a drug & alcohol/psych unit at a local hospital. I knew I needed treatment to stay straight but I couldn't take a month "vacation." So I came in the back way. So I was totally clean & sober for twelve years as I raised him. Then I met my current wife & she's been an angel. She was the mother he never had. More history. My father was a life long alcoholic & drank himself to death. My mother became an alcoholic later in life but died clean & sober. Unfortunately she was addicted to another drug, nicotine (she was a three pack a day smoker.) She was a two time breast cancer survivor but lung cancer got her in the end. My younger brother has been an addict for the last 40 years. As far as I know he is still alive. My youngest brother was an alcoholic/addict with several years sober (he was an administrator for a halfway house before he died of lung cancer). His son, my nephew died of an overdose shortly after his father died, and his sister, my niece committed suicide via overdose shortly after that. So I know the dark side of addiction. I know it all too well. So maybe I broach the subject of addition with some levity. I don't choose levity, I have to. It's either that or I cry. I wish my wife & I could have talked this issue over with our former doctor, but she's made it impossible to reach her. My hope is that maybe if my story gets out those of us with long-term chronic pain will get a bit more empathy.
