I would think twice about getting in the pool. If the hotel isn't very clean, would the pool chemicals be appropriately monitored? Can't say anything about the hot tub as it was closed (which is probably a good thing). It was a very uncomfortable stay. This hotel was a joke. I recommend staying at ANY other one than this one. Cathy- our host and property owner was the most accommodating host we have experienced in all of our years of traveling with our small family. Every accommodative ask, was delivered. While improvements are still a work in progress under her new ownership and the amount of upkeep required for a Lake Huron lakefront- cabins were clean, well furnished and the beach is absolutely perfect.- not rocky! If you are looking for a great property, the most caring and delightful host- check them out. I will say, based on OLD reviews, I was a little hesitant. The property ownership has changed hands and Cathy is going above and beyond to ensure a most comfortable and memorable experience for her guests. I will also say the other guests on the property were very friendly, respectful and kind as well. We felt very safe! We will be back! I need a full week there though, it was hard to say goodbye to two nights and Cathy accommodated us on a short notice for 3! WiFi/cell service was spotty. There are kitchen supply essentials for your convenience, but stop at the Walmart in town for groceries or any of the many party stores on your way. The cottages are a short drive in either direction to Oscoda or East Tawas, where you'll find grocery, gas stations, chain eateries plus a handful of local places, and a few options for entertainment like bowling and movies. Super adorable Alpena is about an hour away and Mackinac Island is roughly 3-4 hours, if you fancy a day trip.

The wood paneling and the (plastic) antlers over the bed gave an up-north rustic atmosphere that wasn't over-the-top kitschy as is the case at some of these older mom-n-pop operations. Bed was on the soft side but not uncomfortably so. Thicker curtains wouldn't be a bad idea here, as the lights over the sidewalk along the front of the motel shine through rather brightly. Bathroom was clean. The shower looked like it had been recently retiled. A full closet gave room to keep my luggage and gear convenient but out of the way. I would have liked a little more light in the rear end of the room, over the table, as I had some work to do while there. This wasn't primarily a working trip for me, but if you were staying on business, you might want to bring a table lamp. At least the table is large enough to comfortably spread out a laptop, papers, etc. A good find, with better quality and value than most comparable motels.
