Refrigerator and microwave were placed on top of the desk, so if you were planning to bring some work (as I often do but fortunately didn't have to on this trip) you won't find much space to do it. Bed was a little soft, but I still slept well. So, nothing great, but a less expensive and quieter alternative to the places in West Branch near I-75. I would have no problem going back.

Wifi throughout the resort no matter where you are on the property. West Branch is a town that has everything from Walmart to all your chain restaurants, yet just down the road from this resort you can find a Pub where all the locals hang out. It's the best of both worlds as far as location. The resort is clean and you feel very at home with all the personal touches. I can't say enough about the big house. When I say big, the kitchen and living area are HUGE! We look forward to visiting this resort again.

They offer several…read moretrips up the Ausable River including a 5 hour canoe/kayak trip, a 3 hour canoe/kayak trip, and a 3 hour tube trip. They also offer over night trips if your looking for even more adventure. Prices are reasonable, $45 for a canoe, $35 for a kayak, and $14 for a tube. They are able to accommodate small and large groups with buses and vans. All their trips take you to the Ausable river, which is a large beautiful river that offers many swimming areas and many great views. You may even get lucky enough to see a bald eagle.

There wasn't as many easy access stops on the sides, though. Negatives: From the very beginning, the owner or manager was extremely cold and rude. We waited 15 minutes for him to come check us in, which is fine, but once he walked into the check in room, he barked at us "what do you want". The entire conversation was uncomfortable like we were putting him out. A few other couples we met later on the trip said the same exact thing as well. The ride to the drop off area was a bit wild. The busses went so fast and once the guys pulled our canoes off the back of the busses, they didn't say a word to us or tell us any tips on how to get into the docking area. They barely let us have time to ask any questions if we had any--they literally duped us off and left within seconds. The end of the trip was quite interesting as well. The sign to get off is covered in weeds. There is no current for the last 1/2 hour of the 5 hour trip. It would have been nice to have known that but it wasn't too big of a deal for us since we had the canoes anyway. The worst part was finding the dock. It was extremely hidden and you could easily miss it with the lack of the sign and the way it was positioned. Once you get off, the workers weren't any more friendly than earlier. You also have to walk about 10 flights of stairs up a cliff, so be aware! Wish they would have done a better job with giving us that as a heads up.

We spent a week there and before we left. We booked a week for next year. I would really like to have a family reunion and that's in the works also. Ask him and he'll give you a number of a guy that's reasonable that will drop off the wood for you before you get there. Beautiful view of Lake Huron here, of course .There cottages have a rustic feel to them and he is constantly upgrading TVs barbecue grills outdoor furniture front room sofas beds kitchen utensils and other amenities which includes the addition of Wi-Fi with in the last five years. In front of the cabins there is a little boardwalk with a covered shelter which in the mornings I love to sit out there and drink my coffee and watch the sunrise . Cheap rates and has not raised them in 7 years. Thank you for this. As I end this posting I wish I would've kept this little gem to myself.

Upon checking in to the main office we were greeted by the owner who is a smoker. The small, cramped main office was hot, stuffy, and full of smoke. I couldn't stand in there for the 10 mins it took us to check in. When we reached our cabin, things were worse. The cabins are old, and outdated. All of the furniture, appliances, dishes, beds, bedding-all old and out of date. The dishes were dirty. There were no provided cleaning rags or dish soap. There were only two shower towels provided. The cabins smelled. It was nearly 100* outside and the two window units in the cabin were insufficient. Bugs all over the window sills and doors. Mold around and in the shower. The bed sagged horribly and we were afraid to even pull the comforter down to sleep in the bed. I have attached pictures. We loved the location, beach, and scenery. However, we would never return to this property!
