By doing this, you pay far more for this type of insurance. That being said, insurance companies don't subsequently pay out claims based on the amount you insured your home for. It's based on rebuilding costs. Unfortunately, when Amaden Gay insured our house, we found out later that Amaden Gay collects more commission (or gets more sales credit) by doing this, and when your house needs to be rebuilt, it's not based on how much Amaden Gay insures your house for, it's based on how much it will cost to rebuild your home. This also means you are paying a much higher premium out-of-pocket than you need to. This adds up over time, but more importantly, you are basically over insured and won't reap any extra financial benefit by being over insured.
