There is such awesome Art here, this is what I went home with

This little gallery was wonderful. It was so nice to get some homemade artwork to remember Roswell, rather than that junk you can find at the 100 different alien themed shops around town. They took covid seriously, as their employees and customers were all wearing masks. I would absolutely recommend this place.

    Art class!

I loved this place! I was visiting Roswell for work and I took two of the art classes they had there. It was really fun and great for all ages. They have artwork from local artists and it was fun to walk around and look at the gallery. That's how I found out about their weekly painting classes.

To kick off 2026, I must write about the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art in Roswell, NM…read more This place is outstanding. Allow me tell you all the reasons why... First, it's free admission. Free parking too. Donations were welcome. Second, this behemoth of a building is home to the Roswell Artist-in-Residence (RAiR) Program, founded by the now deceased businessman and fellow artist Don Anderson. There are - to my recollection during our brief introduction on November 29, 2025 - hundreds of artists that apply every year. They dwindle that number down to 6. The artists hailed from all over the world. Third, the artwork is fascinating. There was no limit to the use of mediums either. Each piece is labeled with the artists name, their country of origin, what year they were born, the years they were RAiR, the title of the artwork, the year of its completion, and the mediums used. My middle school daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed room after room of inspiration. They talked about a few of the pieces for several days afterwards. And to think... this opportunity resides in the flat desert of southeastern New Mexico.

I didn't really have any specific expectations going in, but this place honestly blew me away. I've been to some of the biggest art museums in the world and been less impressed. Pound for pound, I don't think any other art museum has had so many pieces that I found compelling. If you are in the area, I can't recommend this place enough. It may be a relatively small place compared to the likes of The MET, but this museum holds its own.

We were less impressed by the Lego kits on display but totally blown away by the environments surrounding them and the BrickTown build itself. You could do a historic space flight from the point of the aliens in '47 or the moon landing in '69; but we just did BrickTown. MacKenzie did a fantastic job of explaining our options. We sat in a room to watch an instructional video, and we were let loose to view the exhibit. Also, available are various skill levels of scavenger hunts that will make the exhibit viewing way more involved and enjoyable. Of course you can skip the scanveger, but it will make the museum a little tedious. The first room you'll see various aircraft, but the Roswell Air Show scene has a lot, aliens included, of course. The room leads into another with the halls lined with incredible LEGO Dot interpretations of the Mona Lisa Starry Night, and the Last Supper. You will then see a Pirates Cove scene and various famous buildings. I thought this 1-meter Titanic rendition was pretty good...even with the iceberg ahead. The coup de grace, is actually the interconnected scenes in the main gallery. Everything else gets lost here. You have an amusement park scene, connected to an apartment scene, connected to a park that is getting overrun by an alien attack - led by the biggest alien mother ship on the planet? The mother ship is blasting a huge laser downward and splits a camper can. There are moments of humor here as in the midst of their attack there aliens are assimilating to the activities. Towards the back you will see a Star Wars themed Xmas scene. Also, there is another bigger City themed Xmas display of events. I don't think this scene is permanent, but seasonal. If you love LEGOs you may want to drop in.

Visiting from out of state and running out of cheesy alien exhibits, we decided to stop in for a…read moremovie. First, I'm taking into consideration that this is a small town. Which usually means you don't have the best selection of theaters. And this particular theater isn't horrible. It's actually fairly clean and well kept. And the prices are somewhat less than other theaters. But it going downhill from there. Popcorn, sodas, and candy are still not cheap by any means. And everything is basically self-serve. Popcorn is dispensed from a huge glass box. Get your own butter. The popcorn was burned and stale. Fountain drinks were as expected. It's soda. The theater we were in did at least have updated and comfortable leather seating, which reclined. In the reclined position they were all loose. And felt as though you were rocking in the chair. For some reason, there is even a USB port in each seat. So you can keep your phone charged and make sure you don't miss a call or text during the movie. Clearly, sarcasm, but it's there, nonetheless. The theater was also poorly designed. Period. It's very narrow and long. There is a crazy amount of space between each row. Wasted space. Which further accentuates the fact that if in any other than the front two rows, feels as though you're super far from the smallish screen. Light protrudes from the entryway. The lights were not dimmed enough during the movie. Proving to be quite distracting for anybody in the back rows. Fortunately, we were able to move down a few rows to avoid what would have been an unbearable annoyance from the lights and tiny screen. Small screen combined with long narrow theater is not a good combo. Audio also wasn't great. Sounds like they were overdriving low-range PA speakers. Very bright and harsh sound from the horns. Surround effect was decent. There was some bass to be had; not bad there. Once again, I do get the small town theater expectations. But in the future, I'd just wait until we were in a better theater with a proper movie-going experience. Keeping in mind the reason why folks spend money on a movie in the first place is the experience.
