We were scouting the Ferry Terminal because we were planning on taking the Ferry to San Francisco in a couple of days. We wanted to see the location, parking and the area in general. We had the Princess with us and as we were leaving mapped out the nearest dog park. Lo and behold, it was right next door! It's not a huge park but there's enough room to throw a ball and run around in. Parking is one the rocks right in front of the gate on Main Street. I suppose you could also park in the Ferry Terminal parking lot although I'm not sure if that's okay or not. There are two entrances to the park. The main entrance on Main Street has a dual gate entrance while the entrance on the Ferry Terminal side is a single gate. Dual gates are my preference because it adds a layer of safety should one gate accidentally not latch properly. We found a couple of dog toys and there were several bowls with water. There were also numerous gallon jugs with water in them. There is no water fountain nor restroom onsite, so it appears that other pet parents are taking empty jugs and filling them. The encampments and motorhomes that other wrote about in 2022 and 2023 are no longer there, so the area feels relatively safe. read more

Great little linear park. Near the main road and because of the length it makes for a decent size. This is near the water and a main road. Mostly clean. Biggest problem is that it is difficult to get to assuming your not living nearby. Alameda is such a drag to drive around in - I'd say its almost as bad as downtown San Francisco in terms of driving 1 mile will cost you 12 minutes. Lots of stop signs and tiny narrow streets. Crowded feeling. Your dog will love it. If he is cooped up in a tiny apartment there is space to run. Also important for your dog to socialize and do some flea swapping with the next dog. This dog park is *HUGE*. I've never seen a dog park so big. Parking is easy. Lots and lots of parking as it seems to share a lot with the trans-bay ferry. There are a lot of RV's and campers around forming an encampment, with lots of people loitering, so I would not leave anything of value in your car. The dogs here were friendly, and the dog parents even friendlier. We actually didn't get to meet everyone inside the dog park because it is so large. The best aspect of this dog park is the amazing view. This park sits right along the Oakland Estuary, on the Alameda side. The port of Oakland is on the other side. So you get to watch enormous ships get loaded with containers across the water. Its both beautiful and impressive. read more

My husband and I brought our dog, Teddy, to this dog park. The park is not that far from our home. It has a nice panoramic view of San Francisco and the Port of Oakland. It is also our first time bringing Teddy here. We had a bad experience with the other dog park in town (Lower Washington Park area) years ago. We never returned to that dog park. The dogs were aggressive and their owners were not friendly. We felt unwelcome there and there was this slight chill in the air - a sense of entitlement among the owners. This dog park is spacious and Teddy can get his exercise by running back and forth with other dogs. Definitely the dogs and their owners were tamed and friendlier. No dog fights and no hostile barking (grrr). They also have containers holding poopie bags and plenty of plastic bottles lined up against the fence. Since we have plenty of recyclable plastic bags (newspaper subscription), we will return to this park to replenish the containers. I'm glad my husband found this dog park. While Teddy is running around and playing with the other dogs, I can walk the whole area and get some low impact exercise done. read more

The park itself is ok - large, view of water, plenty of parking. However, the street it's on is lined with RVs/encampment. Gross. Not safe.

Pretty cool park. Lots of space. Good views. Water jugs filled up by some good samaritan. Downside- super dusty in summer, a lot of people don't clean up after their dogs. Great views. Right next to Ferry. Supposedly has two designated spots by the entry on the street. I prefer the parking lot entrance. Great views of the city and harbor. This is a great large size dog park connected to the Alameda ferry's parking lot where your dog can run off leash and play. There are regular volunteers that fill the water jugs and keep the park safe and clean. Some well loved toys and a practice hurdle can usually be found if you forget to bring a toy too. Humans get a beautiful view of the bay and are walking distance from the Alameda ferry, Rosemblum winery and Ploughshares nursery. Parking is plentiful and bathrooms are available at the ferry. If you arrive weekday mornings during ferry commuter times there is usually a coffee food truck too. We will definitely continue to use the park. read more

We just tried out this place for the first time with our new dog Bruce and he LOVED it. He ran the whole span of the park multiple times and there were so many friendly dogs and owners there. The park was clean, there was plenty of water, and the dogs were all fenced in. We will definitely go again to tire Bruce out. He was exhausted and crying as we drove away because he wanted to keep playing. Overall, great experience. read more

LouLou's regular playground is the dog park in Joaquin Miller Park - which is actually just a gated parking lot - prone to close without notice so they can open the gates and park cars atop doggy droppings and blown out tennis balls. One evening after LouLou had a particularly shut in kind of day, I got home and promised we'd go "parkies". . .I know, I am making up words for my dog. . I am aware of how pathetic that is. All the way up the hill I told her "Here we go. . PARKIES!" and she'd wag her tail furiously. She makes this bizarre guttural chirp whenever we get near the bend in the road where the park is. . she's chirping and she's pacing back and forth in the back seat from excitement. As we came around the bend. . .D'OH. . closed. . . .I turn the car around and she starts . . well, I want to say it's a howl but it was more like a keening wail of sorrow. All the way back down the hill . . . The other two Oakland dog parks I know of, Hardy and Mosswood, both suck ass so I was not down. . then I remembered this guy who told me about the apparently super secret OTHER dog park in Alameda. .. the one right on the canal near the loading docks. From my house to this park is far but jumping on the freeway and taking the Posey tube is the same amount of time as going up the hill to Joaquin Miller. The only janky thing about this park is that there is no permanent water source. Some kind soul leaves jugs of water on a regular basis but sometimes they are empty so it's wise to bring your own water bottle. . there are a few bowls. Also, bring some balls because there are not the normal supply sitting around like at some parks. I like this park for the most part except that it's somewhat deserted. . I have been there for two hours at a time and no one shows. . the other evening there were 8 dogs and that is the most I have ever seen. Since LouLou is pretty much a lone wolf kind of dog, she just likes to play with me and is happy enough with no other dog but this playing for two hours straight has given me "ChuckIt Shoulder". . YOUCH! Oh and then there is the Shiba Inu. I am a big fan of the breed. . I think they are among the most beautiful breeds in the world. .. but this guy that frequents the park is hysterical. He is quite imperious. .. regal. His owner is also somewhat the same. LouLou is in love with the Shiba. . she is fascinated with him. He does not give her the time of day. He kicks dirt in her face. He walks forward - head held high, tail high in the air while LouLou follows behind him like a member of his entourage - she is Turtle to his Vince. She can't catch her ball without completely being a putz. . when he's not around, she is freaking the Jerry Rice of ball catching. . but no. .. not around Shiba. ..she drops the ball, hits it forward with her paw and scatters dust around like a nimrod. Her body language practically screams LOVE ME. His body language screams back I HARDLY THINK SO, PEASANT. So sad. You know how they say that owners and dogs start to resemble each other? Well the Shiba and his human are perfect for each other. . .they are the same. If I am like LouLou or LouLou is like me. .. um, does that mean I am an uncoordinated goofball with the tendency to fall hard for the wrong "dog"? oh. shit. read more

First, a correction. There is nothing in Alameda known as the Linear Dog Park, and there is no dog park at the location given on the map for this item. There is a green area -- an abandoned railroad track which might well be considered a linear park -- but it is not fenced and has never been designated [or, as far as I know, used] as a dog park or area. However, the one review here, and the photo accompanying it, are clearly of what is generally known as the "old" dog park located near the east gate of the former Alameda Naval Air Station. From the location of the mythical linear park, follow Main Street north to its end near Rosenblum cellers winery and the Alameda Ferry terminal. Continue through the forced left turn and the dog park is on the right just past the Ferry parking lot. Since the reopening of the primary Alameda dog exercise area at Crown Beach, the old park has not been maintained much. However it is a nice fenced area with a great view across the estuary [the people appreciate the view a lot more than the dogs do]. The surface is a little rough, but good for rambuncting. It is far less crowded than the main dog park, so much so that most dogs and most people will find it lacking in opportunities to socialize. However, this can be good for dogs or people who are shy or who just prefer their own company; and it can be great for those aggressive or unpredictable dogs who need to use the park at times when they can be alone. read more

Pretty cool dog park worth the drive even if you live on the east end of alameda. Pros: Enclosed, double gated entry points, no foxtails in sight, a hose to easily refill the abundance of water bowls available. The larger area is big enough to have dogs of different play styles/activity levels entertained. The smaller dog area is the right size for your smaller dog, though some small dogs will go to the larger area w no problem. Cons: more dirt than grass but dirt don't hurt! read more

This is a huge dog park. I found it odd that not a lot of people were there at the dog park considering it has all the signs of a great dog park : its clean, double fenced, has water and water bowls, lot of parking, a bench for dog owners to sit on and plenty of space for dogs to run around. Not sure if many dog owners know of this place. Wish it had a name. [The marker shows wrong location of the park. I have suggested Yelp to move the marker to show the correct location which is just next to the ferry at the end of main street, near alameda main street ferry. Hopefully they accept the changes. Wish I would have read a few more comments before heading out, it would have saved me 15 mins of driving around. After finally locating the dog park, I was impressed with the over size of the enclosed park - it's very spacious! Too bad there were ZERO dogs around but my dog loved it just the same. There are coolers with water available and even a pooper scooper. They need to replenish the doggie bags but most dog owners carry them anyway. Highly recommend. read more

This park is pretty fantastic! It's huuuuuge, which means my greyhound/pit mix can exhaust herself zooming about. There haven't been many dogs when I've gone, which sucks, but it's still worth it even when we're alone. When there has been dogs around, they've been well behaved and/or positively redirected. I wouldn't recommend taking a small dog here, as I've only ever seen larger dogs. But, for medium to enormous dogs, this place is incredible. Also, whoever brings the water is a godsend! read more

Directions to all dog parks are horrible and this is annoying when u have a dog in your car dying to go outside. Coming from Alameda College: GO RIGHT ON MAIN STREET, keep going keep going at least a good mile and you will see it on your right at the water front!!! The view is gorgeous, the dog run is HUGE. There just wasn't any dogs there on a Saturday afternoon, which I find strange. No dogs, no fun, I personally probably wouldn't drive all the way out there just for the empty dog run, but Go check it out for yourself if you haven't been. read more

I found this place thanks to alamedabrian's directions in his review. Very easy to get to, and plenty of parking right in front of the park, but also in the ferry parking lot if for any reason the lot in front is full. Google searches turned up squat for this park. When I arrived around 11:30am on a Saturday no one was there. It was my dogs first time at a dog park so this was perfect for me and her. She got to smell every inch of the place before the next dog arrived. This place is huge, and has wonderful views of the bay and bay bridge. Unfortunately the surrounding area is really trashed, literally, with trash. The dog park itself is all dirt/grass (mostly dirt) with some plastic chairs and a couple concrete picnic tables. There are tons of plastic bags provided by other users, as well as jugs of water (recycled cat litter containers, pretty clever). A total of 3 dogs/owners showed up during our 45 minute stay and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. My dog and I look forward to going again! read more

Linear Park is a passive, smoke free park where the rails once ran. Now it's green grass with newly planted fruit trees, park benches and bike trails. Wild geese roam freely here. Bicycle racks often double as toddler jungle gyms since Linear Park lacks playground equipment. Note: Linear Park is NOT a designated dog park. Hallelujah! I want to heap praises on the responsible abd attentive owners of the pit bull and pit mixes here. When I arrived with my mastiff Zara, we stood outside the chain- link enclosure to scope out the vibe. I had a tinge of trepidation about the sheer volume of pit bulls and pit mixes but I noticed that the owners were all engaged in supervising safe play so we entered. These bullies broke my stereotype of being eye-locking, confrontational and intimidating. They were confident, obedient, and calm. Their owners acted like parents by redirecting their dog's attention instead of a lot of oblivious pit owners I've seen elsewhere I'm thankful for the previous reviews that inspired me to come here so my dog can have positive interactions with other bullies. read more

I have been looking for a dog park like this for a long time!! I own an Italian Mastiff and he is only 7 months old right now weighing in at about 85 pounds. When I take him out to the dog parks I work hard on his training and some recall, the recall is tough to work on when there are too many dogs and owners in sight. My favorite dog park is Pt. Isabel in Richmond, and we do go there often, but going there means he has to be on a leash the entire time, only because he is still a puppy and most people look at him and think OMG, people asume and past jugement on a particular breed, and he loves people and loves to play with other dogs, but mind you if another dog gets aggressive with him he will not back down, and I have recently noticed more owners not paying attention to their own dogs and their behaviors (red flag signs), I see a lot of little tiny dogs get aggressive with Arcadius as we are walking on the leash minding our own business and a few times I've had to tell people to come get their dogs, I've also noticed a lot of little dogs become aggressive with other dogs too, and I respect people and other dogs, so I keep him on a leash there, just because there are so many dogs and not every dog will get a long, just like people. This dog park is PERFECT for him, because if I get there early or late enough, there is no one there and he can run FREE off leash without the worry of people/dogs being afraid of him. It's perfect to train him on his recall, and it's perfect for him to be a regular big old puppy!!!!!!! The view is GREAT!!!!!!!!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!! read more

For the most part this dog park is really nice. Most of the dog owners are quite responsible. However, occasionally, we will get those who do not pick up after their dogs, who brings their dog here and roam while the people sit down to read the papers and not pay any attention to their dogs. Do you really want your own dog running into dog poop or rolling into dog poop as they romp around or do you want to step in dog poop as you follow your dogs around to supervise them? And I don't understand why people would be their antisocial and aggressive dogs to any dog park. Another thing that bugs me is when these older ladies bring their dogs to this park not so their dogs can socialize and run around, but so the ladies can pace back and forth across the park to get their own exercise in. I think they're better off leashing their dogs and walking along Shoreline Drive. All that aside, again,most dog owners here are pretty responsible and vigilant about their dogs, and big thanks to Debbie for always filling up the water jugs and providing that for our dogs! read more
