We have gone to Ed's in October the most. He has for a few weeks German dishes that are all unbelievable! The duck is my favorite. I also tried the Venal Schnitzel. Either one you can't go wrong with. It is well worth the drive. The menu covers everything you could possibly think of. Steaks,fish,chicken and sandwiches. The service was also great. We have been patrons at Ed's every Friday all summer, but no longer. Prior to being seated tonight we were asked if we were "the couple that always orders appetizers". We aren't, but thought it odd we were asked that. Then we were seated in the dining area, but sat there for 20 minutes and no one took our order, or even said a word to us. During this 20 minutes, I watched two kitchen staff try to stomp something, then stop when they saw me looking at them through the window. The blond waitress with a pony tail then looked at the bottom of the baking rack within the dining area, which prompted me to do the same. I saw what looked like a mouse, right next to a table of dining patrons. As I continued to wait for 20 minutes for our food order to be taken (never happened)I watched the mouse move around and eventually disappear, I can only assume right back into the kitchen. Neeless to say we left the premises and will not be back EVER. Do better Ed's Main Street, and call an exterminator while you are at it. read more

First time here last Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the friendliness. The wife and I had the chicken tender meal, for we were there for a quick lunch. The tenders were actual chicken tenderloins, lightly breaded and fried golden brown. I had the pepper jack curds and they were delicious. The menu/selection is intriguing and they also make a good looking pizza . To sum it all up, the beer was cold, the clientele was friendly, the place was clean, and we will definitely be back. read more

We just had one of the best meals ever! We stopped in on the recommendation of one of my patients and boy were we pleased. Amy did a superb job serving us... she was delightful. The salads appeared almost immediately. I had the prime rib (you also have to have the prime rib) and my husband ate the biggest bowl of chicken Alfredo I have ever seen. Garlic bread and dinner rolls topped the meal off for both of us. Zero complaints. Cannot wait to head back up here from Milwaukee. read more

Great food, great staff, great chef, doesn't get any better than that. I especially love the jumbo schnitzel, which might be a regular on the menu! I almost forgot, one day I vowed to order the liver and onions, it was as good as liver and onions can get! And lots of it, smothered in onions and bacon and yes I would order it again. read more

This place is awesome, maybe too awesome. There are so many menu selections I will have to come back again and again. With 6 of us at the table we had a variety of foods to taste. The ribs are huge and meaty. Nice smoke flavor and not too mushy. The bourbon tender loin was piled high with sautéed portobello and deep fried green beans. The shrimps plentiful and the garlic, bacon mashed potatoes are great! The carrot cake was divine. Our server Kelsey took great care of our table of 6 in good fashion. Just when I was about to give up on dining out in the Northwoods, we found Ed's. Great food, oversized portions, and friendly staff. Last night was a Friday of a holiday weekend, apparently there is a big race a town over, so the place was packed. Service was a little slower, but just as friendly. The poor waitress kept apologizing, unnecessary - she was busting ass. They were out of a few things,but hey everything they did have was on par. My husband ordered the peel n eat shrimp, I thought he was crazy - it was amazing. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food. Some people in our group thought prices were high, I thought they were on point for the quality. It was nice to see the owner lighting up the heat lamps, helping out where he could. And while waiting, we had the cutest old guy playing acoustic music. Will definitely be back read more

We live about 40 Minutes away, and are always coming into Crandon for groceries. A couple years ago we just started stopping here at Ed's to eat, and it's been absolutely delicious every time! Finally found a restaurant in the Northwoods with great food and great service!!!! Unlike most restaurants in the area we were greeted by the bartenders and owner when we walked in. We sat in the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender was very friendly and fast. We ordered food and a waitress served us at the bar. She recommended the boiled shrimp and we took her advice. It was wonderful! I can say it was some of the best shrimp I have ever had! We talked a little with the owner and he ended up buying us a drink. He seems to keep an eye on what's going on and knows how to run a restaurant. I have been in the area for 2 weeks now and can say this was the best meal I have had so far. I'm just disappointed we discovered this place the night before heading home. We will definitely be back on our next trip up north!! read more

I too had the bourbon tenderloin. While I'll admit the portion size was incredible and the food was generally above average, the bourbon sauce was overly sweet and the garlic mash was cold. I started with the chicken dumpling soup which was definitely exceptional. Another person in my party had the Coyote Hunter's Special which was amazing. It was a steak sandwich with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, and swiss cheese on a hoagie roll. DO NOT PASS UP THE OLD FASHIONED SPECIAL. A great cocktail and a great price. They try different whiskys and make there own Old Fashioned "mix" I will be back for sure. Try it! Best around. read more

Have been to Ed's 3 times over the past few years. Every time it's been a consistently great experience. Portions are sizable. The smoked ribs are meaty and delicious -- the smoke them in house and you can taste the difference. Bourbon beef tenderloin is fabulous - would recommend getting your tempura green beans on the side so as not to get soaked in the sauce. Good beer selection. Better than average old fashioned for an up north bar. We will be back ! read more

Have gone there each of the last 4 years on our annual snowmobiling trip to the area. All 4 years have been great. Prices are awesome, food is awesome too. Bourbon tenderloin, sliced up with huge portabella pieces in a bourbon sauce with fried green beans. Large chilled garden salad and Garlic mashed are amazing, garlic bread is almost too much with the size of the meal. Mississippi mud pie is tasty and house made. In fact, all foods are house made to my understanding. Prices are more than reasonable. I think the meal without dessert was $15.99 We were also there for lunch on a Friday this year, and I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Huge! And tasty! I added pepper, that was it. Drinks are good as well, staff are super friendly and do a great job. 4 years, and ZERO complaints. Possibly the best food in the wisconsin northwoods. read more

Had a chance to return to this restaurant this time for breakfast. While the breakfast menu was very limited we enjoyed a very nice breakfast that was very good. The multi grain toast and sausage links were the best I have ever tasted!! Eggs and hash browns cooked perfectly. Warm welcome when we arrived and great service from our server. We have been going to Main Street Ed's while snowmobiling for about 5 years. It has been a destination because the good food, friendly staff and it is nice & clean restaurant. However, during our last two visits a few weeks ago (Sunday lunch and late lunch on a Saturday) we have had to endure a few bad apples. Both visits; the same vulgar slob wearing overalls & Argonne Fire Department Tee Shirt and his dim witted sidekick were holding court at the bar. Every swear word you can think was used loudly and repeatedly the entire time. There were a lot of kids in the bar & restaurant and just about everyone was cringing. Keep in mind this is the middle of the day on a weekend. The all-female staff wisely did not confront the drunks but they seemed like regular customers. I hope Ed tells these two buffoons to shut up and get out or they will certainly ruin his reputation as family friendly restaurant. This review is not necessarily negative about the restaurant or the staff, more about the bozo's that are allowed to stay and ruin a great place. I hope to be able to go back because we had so many good times there. read more

Food was absolutely delicious! Had bourbon tenderloin. The plate was piled high with 10-12 oz of sliced up tenderloin with fried green beans and portobello mushrooms. Garlic mashed potatoes were sinful and covered in cheese. My friend warns that the clam chowder soup has plenty of pepper, but I thought it was flavorful. Service was extremely friendly. For small town Northern Wisconsin this is wonderful. This is a clean restaurant with large bar and cute dining area. Owner is a legend in the area (Ed Hill) and staff is friendly. Homemade chili (recently featured in Milwaukee Journal), yummy. Actually, all homemade soups, yummy. Argonne Burgers (huge and GREAT DEAL), yummy. Bourbon Tenderloin, yummy. Parmesan Haddock, yummy. Pizza (I especially like the Chicken Fajita), yummy. Cajun Catfish, yummy. Lots of other choices. Off the beaten path a bit, but people travel from a half an hour away to eat there. Took husband out last night for birthday dinner as he loves fish fry and Eds is only place around that has it on a Wednesday. I ordered Greek shrimp. I had a salad and he ordered haystack onion rings as an appetizer. The rings come out and 30 seconds later our meals come out. Then when we don't act happy about how our meals will be getting cold sitting on the table while we are eating the appetizer she calls us a pain in the ass to her fellow waitress. That right there is why she got a bad tip! The appetizer should come BEFORE the meal with enough time to enjoy it, not feel like you have to scarf it down before your meal gets cold. Husband said the fish fry would have been better hot and not soggy and my shrimp had no flavor whatsoever. And in my opinion you should get more than 6 for $18! Not the first time we've had bad food and service at Eds either. Will be cooking fish fry on Wednesday nights at home from now on. read more
