We make a special trip once or twice a year to Clayton just to come to Main Street Gallery. It is filled with great southern and national collect folk artists. There is always something new and fresh to be seen. read more

Specialties

We specialize in contemporary folk art, also known as outsider of self-taught art. We also offer Southern folk pottery, handcrafted furniture, pottery, jewelry and unusual gifts.

History

Established in 1985.

In 1985, Jeanne Kronsnoble and an artist friend opened a studio in Clayton, GA where they could create and display their own art work. Before long, Jeanne's interest in the local folk art became a passion and she began traveling the back roads throughout the Southeast to meet artists, hear their stories and collect their work. In 1996, the gallery moved into an historic storefront space to showcase the work of these self-taught artists. The three floors of the gallery abound with artwork by over seventy-five artists. The work includes wood, metal, and found object sculpture, as well as primitive furniture, paintings and Southern folk pottery. Recently, fine art, jewelry, and international pottery were added, but contemporary folk art is still the specialty. Main Street Gallery has been featured in many publications including Southern Living Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, and The New York Times.

And a friendly and helpful staff to boot. Watch your step on entry and exit, it can be tricky with a step up or down, depending on which direction you are going. The inventory turns fairly well such that new finds are always available. We make Clayton a day trip destination from our home in Greenville, and when it comes to shopping, this gallery is our first stop.
