The meat and deli are both great. You can get a freshly made sandwich and eat it there or takeout. They have a wonderful selection of fresh meats as well as frozen meals. One thing I always get there for my dog is the "chicken chips". My dog loves them. read more

I have been a customer for many years, and when I informed the manager that the directions on the stuffed chicken breast were incorrect - 1.5 hours for cranberry stuffed she just responded " ok ". This is poor customer service. The heating directions for the jalopino breasts made them very dry. After spending $26.00 - a more customer friendly response should have come forth. read more

I stopped on my quest to stop at meat shops in my travels and try meat sticks and anything else that I might like. The people were very helpful and asked me several times if they could help me find something but I was a blank canvas with nothing in mind. The meat sticks were buy one get one for free which was nice because they were expensive. The shop has a small dining area and serves food from the overhead menu if your hungry. The place has all the typical meats, sausages, hams etc etc that you would expect. I ended up with some meat sticks, heat and serve smoked ribs and some breakfast sausage for my sample of the shop. Love this place! I came here because I saw they had a special online. 2 meatloaf and 2 twice baked potatoes was under $10 and it was so good and easy to cook - just pop it in the oven to bake. The options here are endless. They obviously have great meat selection but they also have frozen meals ready in their freezers and fridge. For a Christmas gift, I purchased their dinner for 2 boxes and it's such a good deal and the recipient loved it! They also have a food area where you can stop in for lunch. read more

This is a meat market located on IL 251 in Roscoe IL. They do have a cafe attached, but I'm more interested in the market portion itself. Given my recent obsession with smoking, I decided to give this place a try. Here is my pros vs cons analysis. It would keep me busy for a few months easy. -Main Street Meat prepare their product in house. Most of the meat cuts all seem to be butchered on site and it is a nice touch. Quality seems better than the average packaged meat you find at Wal-Mart -Staff was very pleasant, helpful, and patient. I was taking my sweet time. -Decent set of spices, peppers, and sauces. Even though the one I tried wasn't that great. -They even have other items such as grill accessories, beef jerky (again in house), local dairy haus ice cream (i need to review them too), and a neat little thermo bag. -And finally even even had home made dog treats... and that's just cool. My dog didn't really go for the pig ear, but she's weird anyways Moving on to the cons: -The biggest one is that you'll be paying a premium here. That's true with any specialty meat market. They may have a feel specials though that may lower the price tag a bit. -I still have a lot to learn with food prep, so I may be tossing away some extra money needlessly on failed experiments. -I enjoyed the ribeye, but again, the spice was a miss. That was my fault. Not theirs. Bottom Line: So the verdict. There are a couple of local meat markets in the area, but the staff, cleanliness, and professionalism, had me give it 4.5 stars on Yelp which means its a 5. I will be back. read more

So instead of doing the usual go out to dinner routine for Valentines my sweetie and I decided to cook some steaks. We went here to get them and found out they had a Valentine's Day Special filet and garlic shrimp for $10...awesome deal! We also went with the twice baked potatoes. The boy did the cooking and the end result was AMAZING! Steak was a good cut and the shrimp was seasoned wonderfully. I couldn't have done the potato any better myself and this was so much less work! Terrible treatment of disabled veterans who cane in with their service dogs, who did nothing to warrant thr disrespect they were shown from the owner. They were humiliated and told to leave v becayse the owner felt threatened abs he didn't feel they looked disabled. Went here to find a nice roast for a family dinner and asked for grassfed beef. The gal behind the counter said they might have some in the farmer freezer. I asked if it was 100% grassfed, grass finished. She responded that yes, but grain finished. I am disappointed that a high end butcher shop is so misinformed about this. If the cow ate corn/grain.... it is not and should not be referred to as grassfed. Truth in labeling... I am also disappointed that a high end butcher shop has decided not to offer a healthier and more sustainable option for their customers. Hopefully the owner will become more informed and conscience in the near future. I know the Midwest tends to be behind the coasts, but the facts about the health benefits, improvement in flavor and a more sustainable method of farming are out there and it. I still purchased a roast and then was asked if I would like them to season it for me. I asked what was in the seasoning mix. They couldn't really answer that question, so I asked if it had MSG in it. They told me yes it did. Really Mr Prosser? Bottom line, it felt to me that they don't really care about the customer but rather the bottom line. The seasonings really aren't going to be improved because of the MSG, so why put such an unhealthy ingredient in their proprietary seasoning. It won't matter as I am from out of town, but I vote with my dollars and I won't be spending anymore money in this butcher shop whenever I am home visiting family. These are far and away the best quality and freshest meats you will find in the area. Nothing else comes close. You will, however, pay for this quality. The prices are a little steep, but if you've ever eaten anything from here, understandable. Even their ancillary items are simply extraordinary, in a league of their own. Have not tried out nearly enough of them yet, but working on it. I almost always get our fresh, unbrined, Thanksgiving turkey breast from here. Wow. Then I add one of their brown paper bag fruit pies. You will not believe how good they both taste (even if you bake your own pumpkin pie.) Also really good here are their dog bones. (Yes, I am one of those nuts who spoils their dog.) So, don't expect any bargains (although there are occasional sales.) We've shopped here for our ground beef, steaks, and sometimes we get their specials of the week. Pricing doesn't seem to high for a local butcher shop and the customer service is normally great. We don't eat at the cafe but their sides they sell are better than your grocery deli. After reading some of the reviews, it does make me want to shop else where especially after being so disrespectful to the group with the service dogs and using MSG in the seasonings (which is the reason for it not being 5 stars). read more

i have been shopping at mainstreet meats for many years and very pleased with all my purchases. love the hotdogs,balsamic porkchops and potatoe. try their pot pies. comfort food in a crust. now my recent disappointment. the weekend before new years we puchased the special. the lobster was very flavorful. the potatoe yummy BUT we tasted the filet and my husband and i both commented that it tasted "old". we had the fillets before and the freshness of the beef came through. we were so disappointed we threw it out. this happened before but this was very evident. my only seasoning is black pepper. read more

What happened to us yesturday.. below from a retired police officer So, I'm not one to post things for everyone to see, but I wanted to put some info out there about something I witnessed today, especially to those of you in the Roscoe area. I was in Main Street Meats in Roscoe today, as I often am. We've been customers there for many years. While I was there, three guys came in. Two of them had dogs that were wearing vests identifying them as military veterans service dogs. The three of them walked up to the counter, and appeared that they were going to order deli sandwiches. A guy that I believe is one of the owners of the business (older guy. I'm pretty positive I know his name, but I won't post it because I'm not 100% sure, but if you message me I will give it to you) came out from the back and started really giving these guys a hard time about them bringing their dogs into his business. One of the guys with the dogs told him that these were service dogs, and they were allowed to be inside the business. The three customers were very polite about the situation, but the owner continued to stand his ground and say that he didn't appreciate them bringing their service dogs into his business. I was just so disgusted by this. After a few minutes, the three guys said that they were taking their business elsewhere, and left. I followed them into the parking lot and talked with them for a bit. Very nice guys (two guys named Chris, and unfortunately I can't remember the other one's name). One of them was literally trembling, and told me it was because of what had happened in the store. I felt so bad for him, and really for all three of them, because of how they were treated. Anyway, I thanked them for their service. I hope they found a good place to have lunch where they and their service to this country is appreciated. That said, I won't be stepping foot in Main Street Meats ever again. I won't try to tell anyone where to do their business, but hopefully you will think consider this if you are thinking about doing business with this place. read more

You can't get this kind of fresh seafood many places around here. Grilled the Grouper and shrimp and WOW, delicious!!!! This is our new go-to place for seafood. We will never have to settle for high-priced "previously frozen" again. And the steaks were about the best we've grilled so far this summer.
