The woman running the shop told me a little bit about the artist (Boothbay Harbor, I think he's from) and how she bought a cobalt glass pair of earrings from his collection the previous year, different design). Talent on display…read more This store is absolutely amazing. The old building has at least a dozen rooms and hallways just filled with wonderful and creative arts & crafts items. Just so many different things that you can spend a whole heap of tie inside. All the items are made by Maine artists and craft people and the variety and all of the interesting colors, shapes and uses of the different items is impressive. Just about every type of cute, funny or sentimental crafty things can be found somewhere inside. Things out of wood, cloth, stone and paper. it's all here. Toys, clothing, garden ornaments, photos, drawings, animal stuff, holiday things, furniture, decorations and lots of cool items that exist for no reason other than to look nice. A wonderful store that is especially great around the holidays. Definitely not a tacky tourist store although some cool souvenirs can be found here. She had placed one on the floor to test roll it gently, as he was intending to buy it, when a store associate told him she shouldn't touch the toys because dogs come into the store. Then she continued on about how if that's what we want to do it's our kid but not to play with the toys. My husband apologized and was having our daughter put it back. I was shrugging the moment off and tried to continue to shop but then overheard the associate continue on to her coworker about how "they can't read" and "they don't want to tell their precious little one no" etc, etc. The tone was all very condescending and unnecessary when we had already complied and apologized. We had been in the shop only moments, were watching to make sure our kid didn't break anything, so no, we hadn't gotten around to reading the sign. I fetched my family and we left, which is disappointing because I had been looking forward to shopping here specifically. Items looked lovely, staff interaction left me uncomfortable.
