Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!

The Blue Lobster has mugs, hats, magnets, merch and much more! I almost spent my entire check in there! Their store is spacious too so it's quite easy to move around and shop freely. The wonderful owner invited my kid to pet her sweet little dog, chatted us up, recommended some good local things to do, and just generally made us feel like welcomed friends rather than out-of-towners dropping in for the holidays. 10/10 can't wait to go back here and shop some more for nieces and nephews and some vintage for myself the next time we are in the Portland area.

There are silk flowers and gifts and bobbles galore from tacky to elegant. It is a bit claustrophobic but it's set up so you go in one way and out the other. My friend and I just took our time and tried to take it all in, impossible . Ohh yes there is also penny candy and fudge ,though I only gave that a glance, honest. We didn't even get to the antique barn next door which was a shame because it looked really interesting also. As for the customer service, the woman that was there with us was lovely. They had an amazing variety of gifts from Maine/Portland, and everything was fairly priced. I ended up buying 11 postcards for just $10.50 -- a steal compared to what I've seen at other gift shops when traveling around. The postcards were also beautiful and very high quality. Of course the usual Maine lobster theme is going strong in here. The prices are decent and the selection of stuff really impressive. I feel like every time I visit, I find something new. I've overheard them being helpful and kind to people with questions. It seems the store is stocked with products from small, local artisans; what's not to love about that?!
