During my visit I tasted several wines on offer at the winery. Everything was enjoyable. Of particular note are their dry Rieslings and Muscat. The tasting I enjoyed was curated by Maxime, who partners with his father in the winemaking/growing process. He was incredibly engaging and helpful in explanations of both the wines and history of the winery. As a wine tour goes, this was a brilliant experience. In addition to producing some primo wines, the winery offers lodging for up to 4 or so guests. They also have a restaurant/tasting room space that can accommodate 30 or so guests.

The place is actually a nice tasting room that features the barrels and feels inviting and warm. We have actually met the wife of the current owner of the winery who have told us about the wine and the vineyard and the methods they use, which is still mostly non-mechanical to care for the grapes and let us taste their wines. The tasting is free but buying their wines is totally worth it. The winery isn't present in the United States but I think it should be because their wines are unique and since 1620 the experience passed from father to son shows in the quality. We've tried most of their selection, which is pretty standard for the area, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, and Pinot Noir. To be hones we really liked their Gewurtz selections so we got a case there. The Riesling for our taste was too minerally but than again for others it may be just right but I guess we are too spoiled by the Finger Lakes to like something different. They have a selection of Noble Wines (which is wines made from grapes touched by Noble Rot) and those that have been stored for quite some time like 1989 Gewurztraminer vintage. They produce around 100,000 bottles per year. I came here on a tour. While the tasting was a bit more expensive than some other tour stops, the number of wines shared was generous. The wines themselves were excellent. The winemaker's son gave a thorough explanation of each wine. He was highly engaging, friendly, and proud of the work they did at the winery. He even shared a look at a 1949 bottle of Gewurtztraminer-one of the first produced after WW2. The Muscat and the Rieslings (both the old vines version and a younger iteration) were excellent. Everything I tried was very good, making the decision of "what to buy" quite a challenge.

Upon inquiring where we could buy this lovely wine in our broken French the hostess at the restaurant pointed us across the street and as it turns out the restaurant and winery are owned by the same family. The winery has existed since 1562 according to the sign out the front so I assume that is correct. They make a couple of whites, a rose and a red Pinot noir. I tasted all of the wines they made and most were pretty decent and what was extremely surprising was the prices. At €5 for a Rose and €6 for the Pinot Noir I thought it was a bargain and ended up buying some wine there to bring back. So for €60 we walked away with 12 bottles of wine and it was better than wines I have paid a lot more for in the past. We finally opened the Rose this evening and it reminded me of not only how good this wine was but also that I had not written about this place yet :-)) The really interesting part of this whole experience was the fact that whilst our French was a bit weak we were able to converse with him in German and the whole wine tasting was done in German in a French winery...lol I would happily buy wine from here again and I hope to come back for more Rose in the future. If they have indeed been producing wine for 400 some odd years they must be doing something right :-))

I googled, found the winery (conveniently I was planning to visit Riquewihr the same weekend) and made a reservation to come visit, sample, and buy wine. Jacques, the vintner, was very friendly and helpful -- without being pushy or salesman-like. We sampled 6-8 wines and settled on pinot gris and the pinot noir that brought us to Sipp Mack. We'll be back when we visit Riquewihr again in the future. Sipp Mack has really nice wines, friendly service, and reasonable prices. Try the pinot noir!

Red, White, Rosé, sweet wine, liquors, Crèmants. They have it all. The tasting room is a very classy and modern affair. Friendly staff with great knowledge of their products. Even our Bulldog was allowed in the tasting room/shop. Thanks for that. We sampled three glasses each. Three samples a person are free. How cool is that. The Riesling Cuvée des Seigneurs was a real treat. Got one of that, two of their fruity liquors and a bottle of aged sweet wine (a bit more pricey, but goes well with Foie Gras!). And of course some of their Crèmants: The Brut and the Crémant d'Alsace Rosé. Prices here are - for this quality - very fair. A really enjoyable visit.
