I expected to find bakeries at every corner in Paris. But that is not necessarily true.. As a matter of fact, they are more sparse than I thought, and most of them close around 8pm. But alas, if you find one that looks appealing, I would suggest going in and trying something. That's exactly what happened to us today. We just stumbled on this jewel. First of all.. they had plenty of staff, but they were all getting ready to close. So we made it just in time. The place is set amongst a gorgeous pedestrian street (for the most part). The restaurant itself does give a nice French bakery feel. And it smells of freshly baked bread. I wanted to grab one of everything! But we only have 2 hands each after all. So we grabbed some sandwiches, one of them - the delicious croque monsieur! The ultimate ham and cheese sandwich! We also took a few pastries and some croissants of course! Oh.. and who could forget a nice baguette!? Everything tastes as good as it looks! This place is a gem. Right in the middle of rue clear, they have delicious baguette sandwiches and pastries. We got a ham and cheese baguette, chocolate croissant and almond croissant. While visiting Paris I decided to give Maison Julien a try. The chocolate chip cookies were calling my name. The first cookie was AMAZING soft and fresh. The second day the cookies were a bit dry but, not bad. By the third day it became clear these cookies are all baked on the same day or over baked as the week goes on. Great first Paris bakery experience! Croissants are soft and amazing, atmosphere is perfectly Paris and lots of locals lined up to get pastries before it opened. Totally reasonable prices - I accidentally ordered 6 plain croissants and 6 chocolate croissants with 2 cafe lattes (so watch your French vs English translation) but it was totally worth the $20 and we happily ate them all! read more

We were in Paris for a week staying in the 7th ARR. we went back twice, the sandwiches and pastries were so fresh and tasty, everything we had we were happy with , we even went back the night before we flew out to make a to go bag for the plane ride. Service always friendly, polite and very welcoming. This will remain a go to if I ever find myself back in Paris. read more

We came here to get desserts. It was near our hotel, they had lots of selection and the chocolate eclairs were delicious. If you know French, you may have an easier time but I never came by myself so I can't say that with certainty. My boyfriend did find the lady who helped us to be friendly and they have a nice outdoor seating area so overall, a great experience. Just bear in mind that if you eat outside, you're getting charged for it but apparently that's something to do with laws in Paris or France. read more

We had a few pastries at this location and all were good. The religious was filling, the chocolate mousse was excellent and other assorted goodies were as good as can be imagined. This is a nice stop to grab a snack or even to start your day. read more

Delicious pastries! We loved everything but they do have a bit of a wasp problem in the area.

So, I have been going here for over a year. Until just recently, everything was good. I had a small Citron Tart" and it clearly was OLD. It had absorbed that off taste of refrigerator burn. I let it go, as it was once. More recently, I had a baguette. It had that same "freezer" burn taste. It was totally inedible and I had to trash. I will not be returning, which is a shame, as I really liked this place before these two incidents. read more

Julien was the only bakery on Easter Sunday open in the nearby area. I tried the croissant and the bread. The croissant was good:flaky on the outside and soft in inside. The bread with sesame seed was also good. If your in the area go try Julians. read more

I visited Paris for New Years and this place was a life saver! It has the most delicious tarts and macaroons and great quick sandwiches. It was one of the only place that seemed to be open consistently. I would suggest visiting this place if you get the chance. read more

Maison Julien - The most beautiful pastries I've ever seen! - Bakeries Near Me - Paris, 75

I've soured big time on Maison Julien in the past year. When I first started work nearby, Julien would be the go to, with their reasonably priced quiche and lunch combo. They were even open on Sundays, which is a huge huge plus and one of the reasons I still go there when I have to. However, and this has taken me a while to realize, I've never not once been truly impressed or satisfied with their offerings. I've been going there just to quickly put something in my stomach and go on with my day, which is not the way any French wannabe should be approaching food. I've been keeping my visits to a minimum since August. The pastries by mid-afternoon don't taste real fresh; if you visit, I'd recommend visiting first thing in the morning, when the chocolate in the pain au chocolat is still somewhat gooey and not hard and cold. I can swear that even the Quiche has gone downhill in the past year. Especially the large one, which at times does not appear to be fully cooked. Finally, I'd note that this past August, the place was swarming with wasps. To be fair, this is not the only boulangerie where I've seen this, but Julien seemed to have a particularly severe problem. Staff did not seem to care that they were all over the sweets, or perhaps they were just putting on a brave face. You would think that this would deter people from visiting, but lines were still long during lunch. Maybe this is why management did not think it necessary to address the problem, figuring the wasp season would end by September anyway. read more

I was invited to lunch by new friends that I might be working with in Paris. I am so happy they brought me to this lunch spot. We started with glasses of champagne (why not)! I had the semi cooked Toni with roasted vegetables, which had great flavor and tasted very fresh. Perfect portion size, not a small lunch like many french restaurants. After lunch we had a a café with sample platter of sweets. The citron tart was amazing!! It was bite size, but i wanted more! But not to worry, they have full size sweets as well. They have a bakery attached to the restaurant for causal dining or take away. I stopped by after our meal and got two more tarts for takeaway! I look forward to going back with my husband for a weekend lunch. read more

The pastries are very good (they make mini croissants, regular and chocolate!) but the coffees leave a lot to be desired-- it comes out of a machine where they just press a button. Recommend for the pastries, but not for the coffee. read more

Food was extremely overpriced. I'm talking 6 euro for a cappuccino and 16 euro for a burger. Service was okay and the bread was delicious. Food was mediocre, but nothing special and left us wanting more. Would not come back again. read more

We became Julien fans due to the very good quality bread and pastries at their location in the 4th near a rental apt we let a few years ago, and I stopped in this location after arriving in Paris on a Sunday morning. This spot has a dining room and I sat for lunch around noon. The warm goat cheese salad was fantastic - dijon vinaigrette was not too heavy, cheese was gooey and fantastic, and lardons were plentiful. The only problem was the service - there was only one server for the dining room and she was fully subscribed and terse, so I waited for everything and it was hard to get her attention. Other customers were French and, I'm guessing, from the neighborhood. Would absolutely come back for carbs to go on a Sunday, but might find another cafe to park it in. read more

Very good and tasty restaurant. I had a pan fried chicken dish and my husband had the fish dish. We had a nice basket of bread with our meal. We then picked out a croissant with chocolate and almonds. Tea and coffee came with the meal. Our server was very nice and attentive. read more
