went there last year with my family and we were the only one on the guided tour. i don't remember…read morethe girl's name, but she was very sweet! she spoke english but still managed to do the tour in french for my parents. this house is so beautiful! if you like the edwarian/victorian époque you will like this. the curtis family lived there and it has been very well maintained through the years. you will get to see the salons, bureau, salle à manger (with the veranda, where they make tea partys to this day, so cool!), kitchen. Then to the second floor they have bedrooms, one room explaning the custom of marriages - births & and another one for the customs of deaths. which was very interesting! they also have a child bedroom full of antique toys, which was a little bit creepy haha. then you go back downstairs (there are more floors but they are not open to the public) to the little shop. and then outside to another building where they had a little exposition about the rural life, and then to a (kinda) barn where they have some agricultural machinery and rural life things and on the second floor there is a lot of old things from the town it self. so basically, from the outside it's juste a huge house, but from the inside it's a treasure! go! you need to see this!

The proper way is to give it a at least 2 hours, watch the movie, take the free ipad that guides you and also has a nice discovery game for the kids and start explore the place. The basement had a tv show exhibit which I guess was famous in Quebec, the first floor has a wonderful sense and science exhibit really well made and the top floor is mostly fossils, stones, and animals which was very interesting. Another plus of the museum is its location right on the gorge with some great views. Entrence is 13$ per adult and 9$ for age 5 up if you need a good place to pass time with the young ones this is a great option

The staff members are very friendly (and are not afraid to speak in English if you do not know French) and the exhibits are very detailed and descriptive. As part of admission, they show you several interactive films as well (in English and French). Charming local history museum that is quite the hodge podge, as these places usually go, but full…read moreof little surprises. Of interest to parties with smaller children, there's a four-room Children's Museum (of the classic interactive role playing ilk) tucked inside, which will amuse your 2-7 year old for a half hour or 45 minutes, and which is very nicely done in terms of integration with the historical museum theme. They even snuck in a little display about the use and abuse of orphan immigrants as indentured servants, a Dickensian episode in Canadian history that is covered with both personal stories of locals and appropriately sensitive historical document reproductions, so the parents and older kids can learn something while the youngers are playing. The little suite of buildings -- there are seven, two of which were closed on the day we visited for restoration work -- also makes up an old-style village of sorts, which each of them having an interesting story. The building with the fire tower is unusual, although you can't go all the way up in the tower, you can look up into it. The rest of the artifacts as noted are very much a randomized assortment based on who donated what from among the locals, and are quite busy. There's a couple of rooms of military artifacts, focusing largely on World War I, featuring their unique specimen of a Fokker D V biplane with the only surviving original fabric, a war trophy shipped over just after the Great War and preserved fairly well ever since. There's a display on Reginald Fessenden, a native of Knowlton, allegedly the inventor of the first voice transmitting radio (somewhat hilariously omitting any of the other claimants to the title), which is largely a lot of old radio equipment unrelated to Fessenden, but which is still worth a few minutes. Then there's some random bits - old cobbling equipment, stuff from the old general store, old firefighting equipment -- that are reminiscent of a hundred other local historical society displays. The main building has a display of a (recently deceased) local plant artist which was lovely as well. That said, the hours on this place appear to be extremely limited and it cost us $20 for the family for the admission; it's not that I begrudge the money to help preserve the artifacts, it's just a bit steep for the entertainment value, given that's what we usually pay just for a "full" children's museum that's open longer hours. So temper your expectations accordingly. That said, there's an hour's worth of diversion here for the kids and some points of interest for adults. Better than average for its ilk.

This was a must on our itinerary for our final day in Montreal. We did take a uber there but proudly walked back. This museum was massive with 5 floors of all different mediums of Art. It was an easy map to follow to show me what I must! See and others that I call a fast pass, no lingering allowed :) I didn't read about it in advance so was surprised to see some of my favorites included. I got to see a Rembrandt who I love but got tired of after teaching it to middle schoolers for 5 years. There was a lot of modern and abstract pieces that were magnificent you will see in the pictures. Sometimes museums can be confusing in the layout but this one was perfectly arranged in such a way that I loved that after 3 hours the bottoms of my feet hurt and then we made the journey back to our hotel. We had a wonderful time and had to go around twice to our favorite exhibits! I forget the exact price for entry but I was reasonable.

A perfect slightly-rainy day activity, but bring an umbrella. AAA and student discounts available. Open seasonally (check their website) but daily from 10am-5pm. We arrived at 10:30am and didn't leave until closing @ 5pm. They allow you to visit the following day if you show your receipt. We took our time, stopping by the cafe a couple times, only rushing a bit in the last 20 minutes, although we did not see the exhibitions in the shiny and new exhibition center near the entrance. Could definitely knock this place out in one day if you were efficient. Little shuttles available (think long, covered golf carts), running every ~15 minutes. Don't miss the Prentis and Stencil House tours (10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. 45 minutes) and Ticonderoga steamboat tours (11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. 45 minutes). The top floor of the Ticonderoga was closed off due to rain (potential slipping). Demonstrations at the blacksmith and printing house, which was a pleasant surprise (special thanks to Joe!). Plethora of impressive and comprehensive collections ranging from circus, carriage, taxidermy, furniture, dolls, paintings - really anything and everything!
