I've been going to Victoria for over 3 years now and can't say enough good things. She is consistent, reliable, and always very friendly. The salon is clean, well stocked, and easy to get to. Parking is included and you don't have to fight for a spot unlike other uptown lots. As far as the haircut, I've done many different styles and have been happy every time. Cuts include beer / whiskey, neck shave, and shampoo and you're in and out in no time without a wait. On numerous occasions, Victoria was flexible with her time and made sure to accommodate my busy schedule to get a haircut in. Victoria is also is willing to do quick neck trims in between cuts at no cost (like if you have a wedding that weekend, etc...). Add me to the list of satisfied customers. Flew in from California and needed a trim before the work week started. Checked for barbershops on Yelp and this place came up as being close enough to the airport, so I headed over. I will admit, it's tough to find. It's not in a strip mall, rather, it's in a house on the second floor. You'll know you've found it when the cutest dog in the world comes up and sniffs your hand. Victoria was great, took me in (without appointment) and gave me a great service. So great, it was light years better than what I was used to getting at home. She also let me know that they do free touch ups between cuts. I think they take appointments, and would encourage folks to make one (I kinda felt bad that I didn't have one, but she didn't make me feel bad at all). Major Barbershop is convenient to the Southend/Dilworth area, right of East blvd. It has its own parking lot behind the building which makes it easy in and out. It is a great experience overall. First off, let me say, my hair is curly. Really curly. And I am picky. I came in with a mop of it and photo on my phone. Almost never do I ever get a cut that I don't have to clip away at, to fix it, when I get home. Today was not one of those times. Niki knows what she's doing! A review of this business? How can I. I showed up at this referred address, even 15 minutes early. There was no vehicles in the back-private parking as advertised-. I rang the doorbell at the front entrance but there was no answer. I was like vacated. Ok, the business signs were there in the front and near the bldg(house). My son brought me here and was going to drop me off to head out. Instead, he waited patiently as I did. I thought maybe Niki had gone out to lunch, but 1:15 came around and still no one arrived. She even confirmed in her text reply. I assume she recorded somehow this appointment schedule for Saturday at 1:15pm for me. I never even received an update or voicemail to cancel this app't due to some emergency reason. This business would have been the ideal as I work right the down street. Without question Major Barbershop a treasure for those who truly desire a PROFESSIONAL Barber. The shop is not fancy but my experiences and the RESULTS have the best I have ever had. I came here a couple months back to get my haircut. I had been growing my hair out for 8 months; I wanted the top long and a clean sharp part on both sides leading to a fade down. I specifically said "I do not want to cut any length off the top, I want it to go from short abruptly to long so I can push it to once side or the other and have a clean part." She seemed to listen but ended up blending the entire thing, leaving me with a huge middle length section on both sides (uneven I might add, the left side was blended much better than the right side). It looked like something out a 90's fashion catalog or off a boy-band poster. Not modern at all. After visiting 3 other barbers, we finally decided that I have to start growing it all over again cause they can't easily undo what she did without it looking horrible in the interim. So now I'm back to square one, trying to grow my hair out all over again... The ONLY reason I'm not giving the 1-star is because she was very nice and the atmosphere was inviting. But I would not recommend going there unless you still have backstreet boys posters and think jean shorts are stylish. read more

Awesome shop!!! Simply got tired of getting lackluster haircuts from the large chains where they rush you in and out and its always a guessing game as to the service you will receive. During my search for a more local shop, I came across Major Barbershop. Honestly, I chose them because their prices were cheaper than all other professional barbershops in the area. I am glad I did! Niki cut my hair and she did a fantastic job! Way more attention to detail than I was used to getting at the chain places. Service was generally great and I even got a complimentary beer! Just moved to Charlotte and found Major Barbershop on Yelp. I used to go to a place called Finley's in Austin, TX and was looking for a similar experience. It seemed like Shear Excellence and Emerson Joseph had exactly what I was looking for but I didn't want to pay $39 per haircut. In reading through the reviews I discovered that the owners of Major Barbershop (mother and daughter team) used to work at Shear Excellence. So you're getting the same quality haircut here, but for $25 rather than $39. You sacrifice a little on the vibe, but if you just want to chit chat for 20-30 minutes and get a good haircut this place will do just fine. If you want shoulder massages and shoe shines and waiting areas equipped with leather chairs and TVs, you'll have to pay the extra $14 elsewhere. You still get a beer and all the basics here, including free edge outs between haircuts, and the basics are very upscale compared to a Sport Clips or something like that. I thought the building was fairly easy to find and there's plenty of parking in the back. Yelp even has a $5 off special when you check in for the first time. I wish their website had an online booking system though (you have to text one of the owners to make an appointment...not a big deal). Victoria cut my hair and did a good job. She was talkative and very nice. I also appreciated the time she took to style my hair after cutting it so I could get on with the rest of my day. In summary, it's not a "scene" like Shear Excellence or Emerson Joseph, but the price is extremely competitive and these ladies know how to cut hair, which is the most important thing after all. If you're new to town or just looking for a new barbershop, give this place a shot. read more

Scheduled an appointment via text with Niki for 6:15 pm and confirmed with her via text earlier the day of the appointment (yesterday). Show up to the place, it's an old house that has been converted into a business (Spa and Salon). The lobby is lit up and the rest of the house is dark. Wasn't sure If I was in the correct location so I text Niki, but then I see her card on the front desk so I figure I am. I could hear a man and woman upstairs and it sounded like he was the prior appointment finishing up. So he leaves and I figure she'll come down and get me. Nothing. House is silent. 10 minutes pass. I call Niki with no response. I text her again. I call again after roughly 30 minutes. Still nothing. House is still silent and then I hear a bit of movement/sneezing upstairs. Lost patience and left. Waste of time. Came to get a haircut here based on other reviews but won't try again. Couldn't at least respond to your client and cancel for whatever reason or follow up the next day to apologize. read more
