Good Afternoon! - I'm what they call a "Half Back" - We moved back up North from Florida; - So - Obviously, I've been anxious about finding an "Appropriate Barber" who could live up to "Mike" - My Bukharian Master Barber in New York - "Mike" - I think it is safe to report that "Brian L." has lived up to and in many regards raised the bar. My review is based on my visit - Friday afternoon - 5 April 2024. Don't be a fool - This place gets busy for good reason; - Caliber's is "Classy" and employs only Quality and Skilled Barbers; They offer an array of Men's Grooming Services - which I'm looking forward to trialing in the next few months. I was extremely impressed by the professionalism and efficiency of scheduling my service. I spoke with "Genevieve" - She was extremely patient and courteous, I had to move my appointment around a bit. Upon arrival at my visit, I was offered a cold and refreshing beverage of my choice and they have an incredibly comfortable seating area to relax. The entire experience is catered to the Customer and you start to feel comfortable and relaxed - the moment you walk through the door. This Barber Shop is clean, spacious and shouts an old school vibe; - Just a very classy place. Parking "Could" be a bit of a challenge; - But, just relax - I promise you that you will find something. Worst case scenario, they have some paid options with minimal cost and/or you can find something on the street. This is really a hopping neighborhood! This wouldn't be a "Proper" review if I didn't take a minute to talk about the "Star of my Experience" - Master Barber "Brian L." - I'm not sure if I was a Customer / Client and/or Patient - But, "Brian" was just a star; - I have to confess - I cheated, "Brian" received tremendously exceptional feedback about his personality, service delivery and Master Barbering Skills from my boy "Mark" - who stumbled upon him - on his quest to find the perfect haircut and shave. I went with the Full Service Haircut; - I really wanted to get a Shave as well - But, I arrived with "Insufficient Beard" for that! - Anyways - Lavender infused Hot Towel send me into Nirvana; Brian shaved my neck perfectly. Overall - the entire experience was pampering and relaxing - every aspect of it. Let me wrap it up, I'm happy to report - I found my Barber in Charlotte - "Brian L." - I also found my Barber Shop. So of course I started beard growing when "No Shave, November" Came up and now my growth was out of hand and I have not had a beard since my Navy Days. So me grooming it watching videos was out of the question I can not see like I could back in my 20's for that clean up work, so it was time to search for and call in a professional. So I made a reservation at Caliber with Hannah everything was done through the email or the app (vagaro) and was very painless. So I parked at Tyvola station and took the light rail down to East/West Station and got off and walked the around 3 blocks and beat them there and was about 20 mins early and they do not open till 9am. (No Problem gave me a chance to run next door to Common Market for Breakfast, see that review). Well the downside to being a YELPER I spent all my time taking pictures of Common Market and Ran out of time to eat my Breakfast and Drink my wonderful Coffee. So I get over to Caliber a few mins early and was checked in by Hard working Hali, who was getting alot done throughout the shop folding clothes and whatever else she multitasks doing and all with a smile and pleasant demeanor when she Welcomed me. When you walk in you notice this place is a higher "CALIBER" (Pun intended) place great seating area, with drinks (Hot and Cold) without feeling like a waiting area and more like a lounge. The stations are professional looking and as I was the first customer hair free. They have a Clothing Stylist, Shoe Shine Station, a Beautiful Shampoo area table top shuffle board(?) and a little wall table with stools to eat. I then met very professional and wonderful Hannah she was very good at asking clarification questions before just jumping in and start cutting away, she had a good idea that I had no clue what I wanted to do and she took control, which I am cool with I am married. LOL She styled my beard and I looked good, was it exactly the way I hoped it was not but the wife liked it and I know more about her so when I come back I can be more precise about what I expect. She touched up my hair around my ears and neck and uses a foil razor for extra closeness around the beard. (Sort of wish they would use a straight razor but we know why they do not) Hali offered to take my coat and hung it up for me till after my appointment. I Would definitely recommend this place if you have a Beard, Hair, Clothing Stylest, Shoe Shine need, this is the place for you. The only way this could be better, throw in a massage therapist, Ahh but I get greedy. I Recommend this place and tell them Rick sent you. read more

*Gender Non-Conforming, Trans, NonBinary people beware* I booked an appointment online, it was accepted, I show up and the receptionist says that "this is a men's salon and we do men's haircuts" I said "yes, I am looking for a men's haircut" and she said "they are trained to do cuts for men's facial features and idk if that's what you're looking for" and I said "yes, that is what I'm looking for". She goes and gets the stylist and he comes up and asks what I'm looking for, I show him pictures of men's and nonbinary people's haircut and he said "I haven't cut women's hair in years and I'm not going to cut women's hair". It was super uncomfortable and poorly handled. If he didn't want to do the style he could've just said that but I don't see why whatever genitals I have or don't have to do with getting a haircut. Please think about the language you use and give some kind of heads up on your website so no one has to get awkwardly turned away again-it's borderline, if not probably, discrimination. read more

Since moving here 5 years ago, I've been with the same hairstylist from my very first haircut here in Charlotte. She's now happily married and moved away to Miami, so stoked for her!!! My narcissistic hair... it has a different feeling on the topic. So my search for a new stylist began. After a less than favorable haircut experience at Shear Excellence (more on that in my other post), I made an appointment with, Jade at Caliber Men's Grooming. What an amazingly major difference in quality cut, treatment and overall vibe of the salon!!! This is a great quality salon that is inviting and calm with stylists that are focused on you and a quality experience. Not a turn and burn, cutting your hair like everyone else's as quickly as possible. I Caliber offers a beverage of your choice when you arrive, alcoholic if you prefer, and online scheduling for time and stylist if you have a preference. Since it was my first time and had no clue who to choose, I randomly chose Jade. At the time of my haircut, she was 2 weeks new to Charlotte, but has been cutting hair for years. Great personality and cuts my somewhat difficult curly hair as if she's been doing it for ages. I chose the 'basic' treatment. Basic includes, quality cut, wash and condition, scalp and shoulder massage and an awesome conversation. There was another service tier that I didn't opt for that bordered on some ridiculous level of pampering that I may try on my next visit. If you are looking for a place with quality cuts and people, you would be doing yourself a huge service by making an appointment with Caliber and scheduling time with Jade or one of the other fantastic stylist!!! read more

Three years in to my experience with Caliber in general, and Jennifer Lockwood specifically. What can I say? As a man with the typical middle age thinning hair problem I always struggled to find a stylist that could work with what I have and make me look good. Jennifer is an artist. She is so far above the ability of any other stylist or barber I have ever worked with. To say I am happy with my experience so far over these past years is an understatement. Easy to say this is the best haircut experience I have ever had. Catie went the extra mile in every way with a head massage, eyebrow trim, styling tips, and even writing down exactly what she did for reference if I wanted anything changed in the future. What a great place with quality service! I came in as a walk-in and was warmly welcomed Haley. She told me to help myself to any beverage in their waiting area, which has a nice selection of beer!!!! If I wasn't driving I would definitely had one. Anyhow, I didn't have to wait too long and was greeted by Jade, who was going to cut my hair. For it being my first time here they made me feel very welcome. That's important when you're getting a cut from someone new. Jade was phenomenal and very caring. This "Caliber" is a MISFIRE. If the haircut sucks, all the other amenities are meaningless. Glass of cheap liquor or a beer is good for 5 minutes, but that amateur haircut you will be stuck with for many weeks. Plenty of better choices for men's hair services. read more

Caliber just opened a few weeks ago, and I've been looking for a new haircut place so I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised with the service, and the resulting haircut. Kelley did a great job with my hair, much better than some of the other barbers nearby! They're located right off the rail trail in South End, so it's easy to get to for anyone in the Dilworth/South End area. It's also really easy to book an appointment online so you're not stuck waiting in line. I would definitely recommend them! read more

After finally having to make the reluctant change to get a new barber, I tried Caliber at the request of a friend. I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is really great - clean, minimal, relaxed, and comfortable. My stylist was Jade, and she did and incredible job. It's the best haircut I've had in years. I've been here 3 times, and every time has been top notch. The skill and attention to detail of stylists is extremely high. The atmosphere is open, clean, and relaxing - they have a good selection of beers you can grab and enjoy during your cut - free of charge.
