We recently had 9 windows replaced by Major Homes. The experience was excellent throughout. Major Homes was the recommended contractor in our area by OKNA. OKNA was the brand I had settled on after sifting through dozens of window manufacturers. They offer excellent energy efficiency ratings and a lifetime warranty that could be transferred. My experience started with salesman John. He was very respectful and personable. Since I had already settled on OKNA, he didn't spend hours trying to oversell the windows. He just reinforced the main features in the model I was interested in (OKNA 500) and let me see the display model. He listened to what I wanted and didn't try to upsell me. When the time came for negotiation, he gave me a very competitive price and didn't pressure me to agree to a deal immediately. I really appreciated all this because we previously had Power Home Remodeling come in and the salesman stayed for 4+ hours until nearly 11pm. He also had multiple exploding offers that were for that day only. The price dropped by more than half the original offer and it still came out to over 800 per window. The difference in experience was night and day. I ended up agreeing to a deal with John the same day he came in for the quote. I even ordered an extra window based on John's no BS approach. Once the deal was agreed, Russ the project manager came out to remeasure the windows. This took maybe 15 minutes tops. Then a few weeks later, once the windows were ready, he emailed me to arrange an installation date. All this was straight forward and seamless. On the day of installation, 3 crew members arrived. Two installed windows while 1 cleaned up. They were extremely efficient and tidy. They installed 9 windows in under 3 hours and left the work area clean. Overall, I cannot recommend Major Homes enough. They were extremely professional and very fair on price. We also couldn't be happier with the quality of the windows. read more

Whenever I hear people's horror stories with contractors, one thing that I know immediately is that they could not have gone to Major Homes. Whether big jobs [new roof, gutters, windows] or small [one or two pieces of siding lost to Hurricane Sandy], I have always found them to be prompt, diligent, professional, reliable, and reasonably priced. You always hope you won't need their services, but it's so nice to know they're there if you do! In fact, at one point I had a minor problem/question regarding some prior service. Someone came, examined, and did what was necessary ................ and it was all covered. And talk about 'prompt'!?! You get an almost immediate response to any email. And then there is my snow removal. The ONLY REASON I can travel without worry during the winter is knowing that the guys from Major Homes will be taking care of my snow removal. They are good, reliable, hardworking,prompt [and when there was a problem during this last storm, with the snow turning to solid ice, meaning they couldn't get there immediately, I got a call from Major Homes, to reassure me that they WERE coming, and would be there as soon as possible], ...................... and they do a FANTASTIC JOB. Thank you Major Homes for giving me that peace of mind!!! AND, they will not take money from me for this service!!!! As marvelous as Major Homes is at doing what they do, on occasion, I have come to them with a job they feel is not something they can do. BUT, they are not reluctant to recommend someone who can do the job [and I have found every one of their recommendations to be excellent!]. A couple of years ago, I wrote a review saying that Major Homes is the kind of family-owned company you want to hire not only for its excellent professional quality work but because the owner himself, Mitch Kersh, truly cares about the welfare of his customers.  He goes over and beyond to help them at all times. Today I want to thank Mitch once again for jumping in yesterday to help me resolve a house-related problem at my 96-year-old mother's home in Bayside in which she has lived for the last 50 years.  A few days ago, her home health aide reported that  the door handle leading to the basement had become inoperative, making everything in the basement inaccessible, - the washer and dryer, furnace, food storage, etc.  My husband and I, who live two hours away in Connecticut, went yesterday (Saturday), and tried but were unable to open the basement door.  The best option available was to email Mitch.  In literally less than 30 seconds, Mitch called me, assessed the situation, and said that what we needed was a locksmith and he had just the man for the job - Bayside locksmith Paul Archer.  Within two hours, Paul contacted me, went to my mother's home, and by 11 am today, my mother's basement door had a new passage lock set installed. We hired Major Homes to replace most of the windows in our house. I am happy with every aspect of my interaction with them. Jason, the person who gave us the quote and described the windows was prompt, clear, obviously very knowledgeable (I think he said his father started the company, but I could be mis-remembering that) and did *not* try a very heavy sales pitch on us. There was no issue at all when we said we'd get back to him at a later date about our decision (unlike other estimates we got). He just offered us a reasonable price on high-quality window replacements. After starting, the job was done quickly and done really well. The work crew was courteous and professional and they cleaned up after themselves really well. They noted places where the wood around the window was rotting and replaced that for us at a reasonable cost. The only thing we are left with are beautiful and beautifully installed windows. I am just so happy with these windows. I knew new windows would look better and be more energy efficient, but I didn't realize just *how much* better they would look. We are now scheduling a time when they can do the remaining windows in the house. I wish I could hire this company for all of my home-improvement needs. read more

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value I have called on Major Homes for major work on my house, like a new roof, all new windows, new door and iron gate. I've had my windows for over 15 years now and no issues, door and iron gate too. It has been over two years since I called on Major Homes. I asked Jason for his opinion on whether or not I needed a new roof at a rental property. He said he would look into it for me. He kept me up to date on his progress. His father took a look for me and told me that I did not need a new roof and if I did need anything for the roof, gave me a reference (because Major Homes does not do commercial roofing). I asked Jason for his opinion because I trust he would give me one honestly and they did. They did not have to do this for me but they did and I'm grateful. Whatever work they have done for me has been outstanding. I do not have problems with any of it. If I do have a problem, they give it attention immediately. I wish every service was like them. We used Major for a kitchen and bathroom renovation (both gutted to the studs) and our experience was fantastic. Joe Matelsky was our project manager and was professional and responsive, and guided us from the beginning to end. He honored every price quote, and was very clear regarding what was not included and which options would cost extra. The showrooms we were steered to came with free advice from experienced designers, who helped us choose high end elements while also being attentive to our budget. The expert craftsmen were neat, clean, organized and were carefully scheduled in the correct order. The highly skilled laborers were very impressive. The demo crew was neat and considerate, and the carpenters, electricians, plumbers, tile-masters, counter-top professionals, outdoor siding and window capping gentlemen, etc. were all artisans and true masters of their trades. Measurements were precise and all appliances fit exactly as planned. Everyone who has seen our renovation is impressed with its beauty. I am surprised to see that the overall rating here is less than it is on Angie's List. My experience.... Not only were the purchase and the installation straightforward and professional - as it should be - but 2 years out I am still happy with the windows. However the reason I'm writing today is that yesterday, after cleaning the window, I couldn't get the top piece of a double-hung to slide back up into place. I emailed Major Homes explaining that there was a 18" opening since the window wouldn't close. In addition to the security risk, the temperature was going back to the 40s that night. Had to fix the problem now! Though it was a Sunday I heard back from them within minutes. They sent me a link to a video on youtube that demonstrated the very easy fix. (The issue is apparently common to al double hung, lean in windows.) In short..... a) they responded to my emergency on a Sunday b) they had a video with a fix and c) the instructions on the video were easy for someone who is not too handy to follow. We used Major Homes many times over the last 10-12 years. We did an extension up adding another level, extended our kitchen, re-did 2 bathrooms and changed all the windows and put up new siding. I can honestly say that Major Homes, namely Mitch and Jason, are a pleasure to work with, honest, sincere and men of their words. Back in 1998 I had Major Homes Corp. shingle our roof. The worker was professional and courteous and we were very satisfied with the service. I have also used major Homes to repair the gutters of my home. Again, great work. In 2012, Superstorm Sandy took some shingles from our roof, and damaged the gutter. We called Major Homes, which came promptly and replaced the shingles and installed an entire new seamless gutter. Again, the workmen were professional and we were very satisfied with the results. Recently, we were in contract to sell our home, and the bank appraiser requested a certificate of inspection and safety for our roof. Major Homes came and did the inspection promptly and supplied the necessary paperwork that satisfied the bank's requirements. The work was performed at no charge. Major Homes was recommended to me by my in-laws who have been using them for years. My wife and I wanted to replace all the windows on our first floor which totaled more then 25. Major Homes did a fantastic job with the windows and Jason, the owner's son made himself available to us 7 days a week for any questions. I was so happy with my experience that I contacted Mitch, the owner after a rain storm led to a leak in an upstairs bedroom. Mitch made time for my family immediately and had his crew fix the roof to prevent further damage. While I know it was not a big job, Mitch did not charge us at all for repair but still treated us like a priority.
