My wife and I were delighted by the beautiful work done by ATOZ Renovations. We're not in the habit of writing rave reviews. (We're New Yorkers after all.) But the job they did deserves recognition. Among the many people worth a shout-out: designer Chaya Uzan whose enthusiasm and ideas gave us a sense that our project was quite special; and Robbie Goldberg, our day-to-day contact and project manager, who brought a craftsman's eye to all aspects of the job. When problems were encountered, problems were fixed. An example: once we installed a new oven in the kitchen we realized that we would have to do without a favorite built-in spice cabinet. Robbie came up with ingenious fix requiring some custom carpentry so that the spice rack did not disappear but became an integral of the whole. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Anthony, our renovation expert, was our first contact with A to Z. He encouraged us not to give up on what we wanted the project to look like even though other renovators had told us it was impossible to do. He also offered to answer any questions we might have along the way.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then there's Shevy, the permit and insurance coordinator. She dealt with the necessary paperwork and kept the inspectors at bay so we did not have to deal with those headaches. And last but not least, Mario, the site manager, who was there every day, hands-on, always professional and pleasant. The projected lasted from mid June - its very final detail completing in November ( the bulk of the project was completed in early September). There were a few design mistakes, in some instances felt like a lack of oversight and the normal delays in getting the materials delivered. In the middle of the kitchen project, we decided to do a little upgrade to our bathroom- vanity, mirror and countertop. The small upgrades made the bathroom look amazing. As an aside, we lived in the same small apartment when the project was going on and they were very respectful of us living there through it. A to Z did a wonderful job on my basement renovation. I found them right here on Yelp and decided to give them a try after seeing all of the positive reviews. They installed new floors, removed my old drop ceiling, redid the kitchen and the bathroom and built 3 new closets. I like that we had a written statement of work that we could refer to if there was any confusion. I also like that their office was well run. Rebecca handled the scheduling and appointments, Shevy would handle payments and invoices, and I worked with Ady on my kitchen and bathroom materials and Max handled other aspects of my project. All of them were great to work with. David was my main point of contact who was always responsive. He was always available via phone or text to answer any questions that I had. Mike, who was the crew chief, was also great and would relay any questions or comments that I had back to David so that everyone was on the same page. The entire team worked consistently and effectively and showed up on a routine schedule which I value. I would definitely work with them and I'm currently in the process of having them scope out some additional work in my home. I will say, however, that A to Z is not cheap. You will pay, but anything that needed fixing or addressing they took care of. One other thing to note is that this was my very first time doing a renovation and I didn't know a lot about the process of getting materials, design choices etc. If you are like me, I would advise that you know what you want and be clear about what you want. David was really good about recommending certain layout choices that I loved but there were things that I didn't think about ahead of time that maybe a design firm would have anticipated vs a general contractor. I am so glad I went with A to Z Renovations for my closet renovation. Shevy, the office manager, was extremely responsive and easy to speak with. I inquired through their website, attached a video of my closet space, and she ACTUALLY watched it -- unlike most contractors I've worked with. Most contractors wouldn't even read my project description or arrive at my unit completely unaware of what they're doing, which, I understand, they're too busy, etc. but still. It was nice not having to repeat myself 500 times to 12 different people before they finally understood my project.
