As a matter of fact, I can boldly say as of the publication of this review, the only mainstream kava business this area has is in Riverview with an Island Root Kava, which happens to be the biggest kave organization in the United States at least. And though I have no issues with Island Root Kava, I prefer local mom n' pop kava bars, and fortunately for Sebastian, they have one, Valhalla Coffee & Kava (which I will shorthand simply to Valhalla for the remainder of this review). Yes, by its name, Valhalla is also a coffee shop, but they also serve tea - both traditional and kratom - food, and also a vape shop. Given how small Sebastian is compared to other communities/towns in Indian River County, Valhalla being a "one-and-all" stop for these specific genres of business seems to work tenfold for them. Valhalla is located in the heart of residential Sebastian, right between the businesses close to I-95 (just east of the interstate) and Riverview which is also Downtown Sebastian. They are the eastern-most business in a small multi-business building which consists of them and two or three other businesses including a church. You will also know it is the right place as there is a fountain in the center of a very little "courtyard." Valhalla is quite a small place compared to other kava bars I have been to. I can even daresay they are smaller than my home kava bar, Kalea Kava. It works for them though as they are more than just kava (and kratom). They have a wide selection of coffee and traditional teas, and food, especially breakfast. Starting with their menu, I had a fair share of what they have to offer. For kava, most of what they offer are company products in which they provide for sale, but their two in-house kava shots, Odin's Nectar and Ragnar's Reef, are highly-concentrated kava shots with a lot of flavor. Pertaining to the "norm" menu items, their iced coffee is good for what they offer and they have numerous options to enhance the flavor including different sugars and syrups. So nothing unique, but you can make a simple iced coffee to your preference easy-peasy. And lastly, their food options are simple fair primarily on sandwiches. I had their grilled cheese and quesadilla and they are delicous. Simply made and priced well. I actually had to leave because I kept eating grilled cheese after grilled cheese after grilled cheese. I am a grilled cheese fiend. Ultimately, the biggest reason for me to come here is the community. Unlike other kava communities, this one definitely shows more unity given the fact that Sebastian is definitely more right-leaning. Yet despite where you stand, everyone is kind and respectable to each other, kind of like how it was amongst people in the 90s before political correctness became the cudgel for destruction it is today. Because of its position in the community it is in, I am giving Valhalla a four-out-of-five star rating for this review. If you every stop by, tell Carlin I said hello. He's usually the tender there when I arrive on Friday nights. **INITIAL REVIEW**…read more Out of the three kava and kratom houses or bars located in proper Palm Bay, FL, Kraken Kava - which I will shorthand simply to Kraken for the remainder of this review - is probably the one most-centralized in the area. Being the sibling bar to Pau Hana in Melbourne, they both share a lot of the same, but they also have distinct differences, thus making Kraken stand out on its own. Despite Kalea Kava House being my "home," I will admit when it comes to being well-rounded, Kraken is the go-to pertaining to Palm Bay and the kava community, especially the Space Coast Kava Community. Though an address is provided, Kraken is located in Interchange Square, in between Goodwill Palm Bay and Brown's Jamaican Bakery and Kitchen. The first things to take note that even though Kraken is two-years-old, they still don't have a proper moniker showcased at their storefront. You'll see the Kraken name painted on one of their window panels, but not Kraken sign. There was one once, but I am unsure why they don't have one right now. Prior to entering, there are a small contingent of tables and chairs outside for people who prefer outdoor seating, but inside, it is definitely much roomier, with more space to work with than the norm kava bar or house. From the entrance, the left (west) side is the bar in which one of the bartenders (kavatenders) - whom I only know about Sage, Fitz, Jay, and Haze - will take care of you. They have a wide selection of kava and kratom mocktails plus straight-up shells for those who just want the purest taste of such. They also have a good selection of both coffees and teas. I actually like this as one of my rules to not to drink kava or kratom until after 2 p.m. Ergo, I will enjoy cold herbal green tea with flavors. My personal favorite is mango and hibiscus. Food selection is limited to chips and candy bars, but Kraken does offer more food during certain events, and will allow you to bring food in especially Jamaican from the bakery next door. Finally, the rest of the floor consists of two pool tables for patron enjoyment, a lounge area, four regular tables and regular chairs for patrons who prefer to sit normally instead of elevated in bar chairs, and a stage for events which happen both weekly and on special occasion. So far, I have attended the Craft n' Kava bi-weekly event and one of their trivia nights. Poker seems to be the one event that gets the most attention, at least when I was there. And of course you can go in to relax or do business. I have written a many Yelp reviews at Kraken. I also played many board games with friends there, too (in which they have a shelfcase loaded with games for your enjoyment). Probably the only criticism I have is the fact there is only one unisex restroom. If the place is full, you know you'll be waiting to use the toilet if your bladder suddenly goes into emergency evacuation mode. For everything mentioned within this review, I am giving Kraken a solid four-out-of-five stars. Excellent place to go, excellent kava house to compliment not only Palm Bay, but the Space Coast, and a lot to do, and a lot to enjoy for those who enjoy kava, kratom, or other preferred beverage.
