We really enjoyed our stay at Makanda Inn B&B. Very friendly staff and food was excellent! This place really had a nice relaxing environment. Perfect place for a weekend getaway.

Chef Kyle made us a lovely chicken dinner. It was delicious.

We recently stayed in the Sienna Cottage and had a wonderful time! To rip off the technology-Band-Aid, I must warn everyone that there is ZERO phone signal out here in the boonies. So don't come out visiting thinking you're going to stream Netflix or do some Candy Crush. The main building (and its 4 bedrooms) has Wi-Fi, but the cottages do not, so bring a good book or two! Our Sienna cottage (and surrounding area) was clean and well maintained with two exterior sitting areas with tables and chairs. One sitting space was near a fire pit and the second space was on a private second-story patio. I preferred the second story due to the lovely view of the woods and small streams within. The interior of the cottage seemed small but was laid out in such a way that the space felt larger than it should have. The bed was backwards (which was odd) but when you opened the curtains and saw the trees outside the bedroom window, it made a lot of sense. There's a curved staircase that leads downstairs to a small kitchenette and living area with a little TV, a full couch, and table with chairs. It was homely and yet woodsy all the same. We loved our little cottage. There are two downsides we noticed. The first involved the trains that pass nearby. Luckily, they don't seem to toot their train horns as they come through town, and you can barely hear the trains while you're indoors, but if you're sitting outside when one comes through, the whine of their brakes can be a bit ear-shattering. The second was breakfast is not included with the cottage rentals. If you stay in one of the 4 bedrooms at the main inn, breakfast is part of the packaged deal, but for the 4 bedrooms located outside the main building (which are all maybe 30-60 seconds of walking away from the main building) breakfast is an added-on expense. Admittedly, the cottages have their own kitchenette so you can cook, but the guests who do not pay out for breakfast are honest-to-God missing out on one of the best treasures this place is hiding: Chef Kyle. Kyle is one of the innkeepers. He's a down-to-Earth guy, funny and likeable, and a fantastic cook. Not only will Kyle be making you the best breakfast you've ever had - hands down - but he'll even whip up some fierce dinner menus in case you don't want to travel the 30 minutes out of town for some grub. I highly recommend you check that option out!

Garden salad was tasty and light, garlic mashed potatoes were to die for, green beans were good, and the steak and salmon was very nicely done. They even brought out two special pasta dishes specifically for the vegetarians in our group for no extra cost! The cabins on site were modern, clean, and had all the amenities our wedding party needed. It was also great to have places to sleep on site for our whole wedding party. Some cabins even have full kitchens, and the air conditioning worked great! There are even grills on site, which we utilized to feed everyone one night. Overall the people from Stone Creek were attentive, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our special day was great and worry free. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Very relaxing. So 5 stars for the cabin. The golf course was another issue. It was in terrible shape. We had planned on golfing a couple of times but once was enough. The only nice thing was there were no other groups so we had the course to ourselves. So 1 star for the golf. Management was good and we had a great time as the location was convenient to the state park and the wine trail. There was a market just north of the resort where we bought a couple of steaks and grilled out on the grills that were located between cabins. Had a bottle of local wine and life was good.

The vibe was just creepy from the moment we stepped in the door. The house is gorgeous- but extremely restricted. The basement is guarded by a baby gate as well as a camera-- that faces up into the kitchen area- I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the owners live in the basement. We basically barricaded ourselves in the bedroom at night- the dead bolt on the front door has been removed. There is a closet in the master bedroom that is locked- as well as a closet in the kitchen. Now, let's talk cleanliness- or lack there of- the floors were filthy. The amount of dust and dirt and trash on the floors and baseboards were impressive. The hair in the master shower was gross- the grill outside is broken and and extremely dirty- not operable-I'm not sure why there is even a cleaning fee. Just more money to be pocketed I guess. There's a drawer in the refrigerator that's cracked and broken- the railing outside on the balcony is broken and wrapped in caution tape- safety is not important apparently. If you want to watch tv or even have it on for background noise like us, you better have unlimited data on your phone bc there is no Wi-Fi but 2 fire TVs that requires Wi-Fi. Bottom line- the place is not worth the price. 225.00 a night- cleaning fee- an extra guest fee- for what? To be watched on their multiple cameras- dirty house- broken porch? If these things aren't important to you... then this is the place for you! The lighting bug show at night is pretty tho! That's all I got. Terrible, expensive experience.

While I understand this is a serious disease, I did not understand how they cannot get a cabin cleaned with 2 weeks notice. After several emails of them wanting to mail me a check (I wanted PayPal return) and telling them I would write them a poor review he then threatened me "Stop whining like a child. Our housekeeper is in the hospital with covid. It's two weeks notice. Unbelievably selfish person. I'll blast your name everywhere I can for years along with your emails if I see even a hint of a bad review". I then noticed at least one other poor review where he had cancelled a reservation last minute for a guest. If you book this cabin, just be warned you may get left without a place to stay and the owner is obviously not the nicest person.

The first three years we have been thrilled with our accommodations but not so for Cabin at Mountain Glen. At first glance, it looks wonderful and quaint. We were met by owner, Rose, who showed us the cabin's amenities. She even had some fresh muffins from the bakery and fresh ground coffee, something that no other cabin owner has done for us. That's where the niceties end. The cabin wasn't the cleanest cabin I've been in, that's for sure. The couch actually looked quite gross. The shower heads were so full of lime scale and so were the jets for jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The hot tub jets didn't really come out very strong - that might just be the way they were constructed - or it could also be due to lime scale. When Rose showed me the hot tub there was quite a bit of calcium deposition on the seat and she even told me that their water was full of calcium. So, I rent a two bedroom cabin - ALWAYS. You see my husband and I don't sleep in the same bed. He has restless leg syndrome and I and an extremely light sleeper. I get awakened by every move he makes and he makes 1,000's in one evening. (Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration.). So, I went to put my bag in the upstairs bedroom and there was a padlock on the door. I called Rose and while I'm sure she would have come back to the cabin to help us out, she didn't seem to happy to do so. She told me that would be an extra charge and so I just thought I didn't read something right on the rental agreement and I told her that we would figure something out. The living room soda was a sofa bed so we figured my husband could sleep there. Well, it had no sheets. There were no sheets for it anywhere in the cabin. That night was not a very restful night for either of us. The next morning it was quite cold. I didn't want to turn the heat on so I tried to turn the fireplace on but couldn't find the remote anywhere. My husband decided to call Rose and talk to her about the bedroom, the sleeper sofa and the fireplace. He did and his tone was actually quite pleasant. Rose on the other hand came unglued on the other end. She was extremely defensive. The gist of the conversation was: 1) there was an extra fee for the second bedroom (even though only two people were staying there); 2) there was an extra fee for linens for the sleeper sofa (absurd); and 3) they hadn't turned the gas on for the fireplace yet and weren't planning on it. Well, he told her that it didn't state any of this on the website and her attitude got worse. We did have her come to the cabin to open the second bedroom and we paid the extra fee - even though there was nothing ANYWHERE ON THE WEBSITE OR ON THE RENTAL AGREEMENT that indicated that this would be the case. (At one point, when she came to open the bedroom and make up the second bed - it wasn't made up yet - she even threatened to kick us out. That was comical - we didn't do anything wrong - we simply wanted to use the bedroom we rented.) I will NEVER rent from her again.
