I was visiting Hilo and decided to take a chance on Sea Bird Massage & Spa, a place I had never heard of before. I booked a 90-minute deep tissue massage with hot stones and cupping, not knowing what to expect. When I arrived, I was greeted by Michelle, a petite, warm, and professional therapist who immediately made me feel welcome. The intake process was simple--a single page with a few questions--and within minutes I was led into a peaceful treatment room with relaxing music and a calming atmosphere. For context, I'm 46 years old and get a lot of massages--often one or two a month in California. As an overnight nurse, I carry a tremendous amount of tension in my neck, shoulders, and upper back from years of charting and poor posture. I've experienced the full spectrum of massage therapists: the ones who barely touch you and leave you feeling like you paid to be petted for an hour, and the ones who go so deep that you spend the entire session trying not to crawl off the table. Michelle was neither. She was PERFECT. When I asked for medium pressure, she somehow delivered exactly what my body needed. Not too light. Not too deep. Just right. It honestly felt like she could read my thoughts--or at least hear what my muscles were telling her. She knew exactly where to focus, how long to stay in a tense area, when to ease off, and when to gradually work deeper. I've had countless massages over the years, and Michelle used techniques I had never experienced before. At one point, I genuinely felt like six people were working on me at the same time. I later noticed the bamboo bar above the table and realized she may have been using it for some of her bodyweight techniques. Whatever she was doing, it was incredible. There were moments when she was using her hands while simultaneously applying pressure and stretching in ways that completely melted years of tension. The session included deep tissue work, stretching, cupping, hot stones, hot towels, percussion techniques, scalp massage, face massage, jaw work, neck stretching, and even an eye mask when I turned over. My joints were popping and releasing. My muscles were letting go one by one. I was so relaxed I think I may have been drooling at one point. I kept telling Michelle she was magic because that's honestly what it felt like. She checked in frequently about pressure, was attentive, polite, and incredibly intuitive. Her understanding of anatomy and body mechanics is obvious. Despite her petite size, she has remarkable strength and control. By the end of the session, I felt lighter, looser, and more relaxed than I have in years. My body was practically thanking me. I don't know how long Sea Bird Massage & Spa has been in Hilo, but it is truly a hidden gem. From the outside, you would never guess that one of the most talented massage therapists I've ever encountered is working inside. If you're considering booking here, do it. And if Michelle has an opening, grab it immediately. Thank you, Michelle, for one of the best massages of my life. I only wish I still lived here so I could become a regular. 10/10. Five stars isn't enough.

She's that good, and she's a great businesswoman as well. Today Rachel was out of the clinic, so she recommended Michelle and assured me she has a similar technique to hers. These are two of the most amazing massage therapists I've ever had in my 50+ years. Deep tissue here actually means deep tissue, not just pressing harder. They both have an incredibly intuitive and capable technique that works out knots and releases areas where I've been holding a lot of tension, while also feeling wonderful. And they stay with it rather than move on quickly before it's released. I left buzzing in the most beautiful, relaxed, released way. Parking was easy to find, and it's downtown. Hands down, Seabird is the best!

My whole body was sore and the pain on my legs, feet, and back was so bad I cannot even described it. I told my husband I wish there is a massage place near us that I can go to. He found Hale Ho'ola Spa Volcano and after reading the different treatments, he said I should make a reservation. Suzanne, the owner, responded to my text right away and said she can take me at 6pm if it's not too late. OMG - the best massage ever! I asked for a 90 minute lomilomi massage and mentioned to her during our text messagings that I am not sure what to get. She told me that she will do whatever my body wants and that's exactly what she did - she seemed to know what my body needed at that time. She used hot stone on my tummy and my hands, massaged my scalp, applied lotion and scents that are very soothing and smell really nice. And her hands - healing!!! The pressure was just right - it was just perfect. The pain on my legs and feet were gone by the time she's done. I am a massage connoisseur as I go get massages often both in the US and during my travels internationally. I always get good massages but this is the best so far - Suzanne really has healing hands. I will definitely be back. On a side note: a dog lover as well. I was able to see 5 very cute puppies that Suzanne is taking care of and the cute and protective dog mom.

I came to get a message early August 2025 with Suzanne, the owner of the company. The spa is a closed off area in a home and dedicated solely for massage rooms and whatnot. It's a beautiful vibe to the room-- rainforest, cool, breezy, sometimes rainy, calming atmosphere. The rooms are dark and relaxing. The massage was absolutely beautiful. They are very attentive, and they make sure to check with you for any areas that you would like to focus on. I wanted a more relaxing massage rather than deep tissue and she executed that exactly as I wished. You can tell that she is very skilled, and she has mastered her craft. I also got the scalp treatment and it was amazing on my long hair. She had moisturized my hair deeply, covered it with a hot steaming towel, and later rinsed it out. The lotion and oils used to massage as well as the moisturizers and oils for the scalp smell SO GOOD! I left the spa smelling amazing and also with my skin moisturized and feeling softer than ever. I would 100% recommend this place and I'll definitely be coming back!
