Cold plunge tubs are 45 just cold enough to benefit a real cold plunge. It was great. My massage therapist Habib was amazing he used a technique called body tempering to soothe my aches and pains from chronic tendiopathy. He uses a steel bar bell. If you don't mind a little pain and like getting your facia scraped and rolled out then this technique is just for you. One of the best spa and bathing experiences I ever had . I have been to many spas and bath houses around the world. It was really great. Tips bring your own towel or it will cost you 5 bucks. If you do get a massage come prior and stay after your massage and soak in the tubs and you can shower after. I booked a 90-minute deep tissue massage with hot stones and cupping, not knowing what to expect. When I arrived, I was greeted by Michelle, a petite, warm, and professional therapist who immediately made me feel welcome. The intake process was simple--a single page with a few questions--and within minutes I was led into a peaceful treatment room with relaxing music and a calming atmosphere. For context, I'm 46 years old and get a lot of massages--often one or two a month in California. As an overnight nurse, I carry a tremendous amount of tension in my neck, shoulders, and upper back from years of charting and poor posture. I've experienced the full spectrum of massage therapists: the ones who barely touch you and leave you feeling like you paid to be petted for an hour, and the ones who go so deep that you spend the entire session trying not to crawl off the table. Michelle was neither. She was PERFECT. When I asked for medium pressure, she somehow delivered exactly what my body needed. Not too light. Not too deep. Just right. It honestly felt like she could read my thoughts--or at least hear what my muscles were telling her. She knew exactly where to focus, how long to stay in a tense area, when to ease off, and when to gradually work deeper. I've had countless massages over the years, and Michelle used techniques I had never experienced before. At one point, I genuinely felt like six people were working on me at the same time. I later noticed the bamboo bar above the table and realized she may have been using it for some of her bodyweight techniques. Whatever she was doing, it was incredible. There were moments when she was using her hands while simultaneously applying pressure and stretching in ways that completely melted years of tension. The session included deep tissue work, stretching, cupping, hot stones, hot towels, percussion techniques, scalp massage, face massage, jaw work, neck stretching, and even an eye mask when I turned over. My joints were popping and releasing. My muscles were letting go one by one. I was so relaxed I think I may have been drooling at one point. I kept telling Michelle she was magic because that's honestly what it felt like. She checked in frequently about pressure, was attentive, polite, and incredibly intuitive. Her understanding of anatomy and body mechanics is obvious. Despite her petite size, she has remarkable strength and control. By the end of the session, I felt lighter, looser, and more relaxed than I have in years. My body was practically thanking me. I don't know how long Sea Bird Massage & Spa has been in Hilo, but it is truly a hidden gem. From the outside, you would never guess that one of the most talented massage therapists I've ever encountered is working inside. If you're considering booking here, do it. The first was in September 2022, when Suzanne left me hanging for three days before eventually telling me she couldn't accommodate a couples massage. I decided to give Hale Ho'ōla another chance this year. On September 1, I arranged a couples massage for September 15 to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband. Suzanne told me she had availability from 4-8pm, I selected 4pm, and provided my email address as requested. On the morning of our appointment, I realized I'd never received the confirmation email or any instructions, so at 9:54am I texted Suzanne to make sure we were still on for 4pm. She read my message but didn't respond. Around 2pm, as we were preparing for the 2+ hour drive from Kona, I followed up again. She read that message too, but again didn't respond. Suzanne finally called around 2:30pm, after we had already been driving for about 30 minutes. She explained that she'd been dealing with power outages over the previous few days, which I completely understand. However, she also admitted that she had forgotten to put our appointment on her schedule and couldn't see us until after 7pm. I asked whether the following day would work better for her. She said yes it would, but needed to confirm with her other therapist and would get back to me. She never did. I followed up again that evening, which she read without responding. It wasn't until around 4:30pm the following day that she finally texted to say she couldn't make it work. Mistakes and unexpected circumstances happen. What I find unacceptable is the repeated lack of communication. Had Suzanne responded to either of my messages, we never would have started a 2+ hour drive for an appointment that wasn't actually on her schedule. What makes this especially disappointing is that we had specifically planned this couples massage as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. Her lack of communication and organization threw a wrench into our plans and wasted precious vacation time that we can't get back. Instead of enjoying that time together, we spent it driving toward an appointment that didn't exist and then waiting around the following day to find out whether she could accommodate us. As a small business owner myself, I understand that running a business isn't easy. But communicating with customers and honoring confirmed arrangements -- or promptly taking responsibility when something goes wrong -- is basic professionalism.

I looked on Yelp and found A Touch of Heaven. I went to see Sherri the massage therapist. When I came in she took the time to understand my injuries and listened really intently to what it was that I was looking for and needed. She then went about her massage and was able to find all of my pain spots that needed working without me saying anything. She is obviously very skilled and experienced. It was not only a therapeutic massage but it was very relaxing. I had a 90 minute massage and did not get extra flared up the next day as with some therapists that work you too much and then the next day you pay the price!
