I needed them to come look at our roof for a potential leak. They Got back to us asking if we had a ladder as they no longer have a truck to carry one (not a good first sign). Then when we scheduled a time they asked to change it last minute as the rep was not going to be in town. Then they said it would cost us $750 just to climb on the roof. Replaced our furnace 6 years ago with Malcarne. Worked well for a year or two then the furnace began to regularly overheat, causing the furnace to shut off for hours at at time and then reset. Had the HVAC team from Malcarne's contracting come in multiple times, needed a sensor replaced, then the thermostats all needed replacing within the year. Now our furnace after 6 years no longer works. Overheated too many times and burnt out the heat exchanger. We called another recommended HVAC company and they told us immediately that not only was our furnace the wrong choice for a 3 zone system but also that the appropriate number of intakes for the furnace weren't installed! No wonder it was overheating all the time! We paid way too much for a job poorly done that now has to be fully replaced. Our new HVAC contractor says he's seen a lot of poor jobs done by Malcarne HVAC and that we likely won't get the warranty covered on the heat exchangers due to a job poorly done. read more

Since the Malcarne commented on my review and I can't seem to respond to theirs, I am adding a review: It took many months for Malcarne to finish the job.They wrote: "There was a minor issue with some over-spray onto objects that were not covered completely." NOTHING was covered before spraying half the basement (the spray foam wasn't completed in one visit). Minor issue? I think not. Have you ever had to take a razor blade to crystal? They wrote: "We stand by our commitment to always put the customer first and make sure their needs are met to the best of our ability." I guess the catch phrase is "TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY" Hire Malcarne? As the movie says: are you feeling lucky? read more

I received a monthly mailer coupon from Malcarne Contracting that stated that they do tree work and that they had certified arborist on staff. I decided I would give them a call to get a quote for the pruning of a Japanese Maple. I called on a Wednesday and made an appointment for 9:00am on Saturday. The person I met with was 45 minutes late. He verbally quoted a fee of $250 for the trimming of the tree. In the past, I received quotes of $200 to $250. I was okay with paying the $250. A week later, he emailed an estimate to me. The estimate to prune my tree jumped from $250 to $595. I would not recommend doing business with Malcarne Contracting or any of it sub companies. In addition, I was told that that they were certified arborist. I do not think this is the case. STAY AWAY FROM MALCARNE CONTRACTING INC.! read more

My wife and I bought a house built in 1960, which had been improved over the years in various ways that apparently made sense to the owner at the time. It was drafty, and had no air conditioning. I wanted to take advantage of NYSERDA's home energy improvement loan, and ideally get the air conditioning installed as well, all at the same time. I also wanted to be as energy efficient as possible, so I was looking for a company with experience in ductless mini-split units. Since we hadn't moved in yet, Joseph made us his priority, so things got done quickly. His team insulated all the exterior walls, added insulation to the roof, air sealed the house, installed a radon removal system in the basement, and installed 5 ductless mini split units. And as I've now learned is normal for an older house, several other things had to be done to allow the things we actually wanted done to be done, like relocating the service drop coming into the house, replacing the fuse box, and so on. They also did some minor things like replace the truly scary electrical connection going to the dishwasher, install a fire-rated door to the garage, and deal with some plumbing issues. The men doing the work were all very professional, and were very good about cleaning up after themselves at the end of each day. They got there in the morning when they said they would, and were very careful about not leaving doors or anything open where my cat could escape. And when I had to go to work and no one could be there at times, I had no concerns leaving them at the house by themselves. Joseph stopped by several times through the process to make sure things were going well. He seems intent on getting things done right, and not cutting corners. When we had an issue with one of the upstairs air handlers making a very loud whistling noise, several people came back and installed an extra return to reduce the noise dramatically. I have no qualms about recommending Malcarne Contracting to people I know, and I'll certainly be hiring them again for any other work that needs to be done. read more

VERY hard-working and courteous staff, not to mention the founder, Joseph Malcarne, paid extra attention to my concerns and was quick to offer options and solutions. The workers went above and beyond and even installed my aerobic flooring without me even asking! They cleaned up everything they brought with them and were professional and respectful. Their office has trouble handling basic communication of estimates, materials and invoices. They don't itemize their estimates which leaves you guessing what is covered in the details. They tried to invoice for me for door locks that were quoted as part of a door replacement 13 months after the job was completed. I'd like to see them improve on communication and clarity around estimates and detailed contracts instead of leaving things ambiguous and purposely misleading. read more
