VERY DISAPPOINTING - CERTAINLY NOT AS ADVERTISED
My experience in staying at this motel was extremely disappointing. When one pulls up next to the charming Old Eaglehawk HOTEL one might be anticipating a touch of comfort and indulgence, but once one has booked into the MOTEL, owned and operated separately, one is told to drive around the back to park and finds a row of cheaply built brick motel rooms. It is my experience that there is a stark contrast between the facilities advertised and those provided, as follows:-
1. The advertised reverse cycle air conditioning, swimming pool. Mini Bar and free in-house movies were not provided.
2. The heater/air-conditioner in my room was from the 1970's or 1908's and rattled loudly and was not near the main part of the room. It was not reverse-cycle as advertised.
3. The television remote control did not work properly.
4. The electric blanket did not work.
5. The motel information booklet which was on the table in my room included instructions on how to access an outside telephone line from the phone in the room. There was also a sign on the phone itself, giving instructions on how to do so. I was very frustrated when I followed these instructions but was unable to make an important call. Eventually there was a response to a call to reception and I was told that the rooms do not have access to external phone lines.
6. Items were removed items from my room prior to my departure, while I was out, including perishable food items which were purchased as a gift for friends and I had stored in the fridge in my room. When I attended reception, I found they had placed them on the floor in reception, not in a refrigerator and two beautiful strudels which should have been kept flat were standing on end against the wall. This resulted in them being unsuitable for their intended use.
7. It is easy for one to gain the impression that this place was built cheaply and standards suffered accordingly. There is just enough room between where the bathroom door opens and the hand basin and a stopper stops it from actually hitting the toilet. One has to reach through hot water to adjust the temperature when having a shower which is dangerous. Cheap framed prints are secured to the walls with big ugly screws.
8. There were no plates or bowls in the room, only two glasses and cheap old cups and saucers - even the two teaspoons look like "op-shop" rejects. All very ordinary.
Each of these things may not seem major when considered individually, but when they are viewed collectively, they certainly leave one very disillusioned and disappointed.
It's a great pity I didn't have a camera! I strongly suggest you inspect the rooms and check things are working properly and to your liking before booking in, as your hosts charming façade soon disappears at the slightest polite suggestion of criticism.
If you are the next person to stay there, please take some photos and post them on line - and certainly do let us know if things have improved!
