Cities with scenic waterfront walks are hard to resist, and in the best cases, those promenades provide the most lasting impression a visitor has of that city. That's true of the Atlantic City Boardwalk, Shanghai and the Bund, and Havana and the other Malecon. This stroll is just as essential, a mile-long path that provides the gravitational pull between Centro and Zona Romantica. This esplanade reflects the genuine appeal of Puerto Vallarta through a robust collection of public art set against Banderas Bay. Beyond the unique sculptures are the requisite retail shops, art galleries, and eateries. Street performers periodically show up on the promenade, and more organized entertainment is scheduled at the Los Arcos Amphitheater (Photo 8). Take the time to enjoy this artery of life. This is the main boardwalk in Puerto Vallarta and it is everything it is made out to be. From the metal and sand sculptures to the magnificent sweep of the bay, this is a must visit spot in town. We visited last week and while the day was hot and muggy, we stayed in the shade and made the most of it. Would love to come back.

Cute waterfront walkway that takes you along the town. There's loads of restaurants and bars from one end to the other. Vendors selling things and street performers on deck. There's also the main square that's right in the middle. You can walk it from the romantic zone of PV on the walkway and it'll take you straight to it. The Puerto Vallarta sigh is right in the path which there's always a line for pictures. It's also pretty organized as everyone is always lined up waiting for their turn with the backdrop. You'll have your restaurants that you're familiar with as it's also a tourist area. Nightclubs are also held here in the evening. Nice little spot along the path if you're looking to just sit and enjoy the water or the boats passing by. The beach is pretty rocky so I'm not sure if you're allowed to swim.

A must experience overlooking the ocean, beaches and great shops + restaurants of Puerto Vallarta. Malecón is like no other as a mile long 12-block path with quite a bite to enjoy including it's statues, installations and unique art. We passed a guy balancing stones on the beach, the stone man who plays chess and tons of wonderful sites. The Vallarta dancers captured in a beautiful pose. Witness the incredible acrobats several times. Partook in beverages at Senor Frogs as well as La Bodeguita del Medio. Watching the sunsets, feeling the beautiful breeze and doing all the local as well as visitor/touristy things will make you "cantar!"

The Malecon boardwalk is a touristy location located next to the beach, filled with restaurants, bars, and gift shops. They have so many photo op places due to all the statues, benches, and decorations they have up. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning. The prices for food in the area are a bit higher due to tourism but the food hits every time! They also have clubs in the area. Not my scene, but it looked fun and they have a bunch of quirky things to look at. Take a stroll through the streets to find some of the best hidden gems.

Fun place to take in the coast with a nice stroll along the walk. Plenty of vendors with a range of goods. The persistent offers of time shares can get tiring. After awhile we just ignored them. Lots of tasty street food offerings as well. Plentiful options for watering holes as well.

A must do. Take your time there are lots to see. From restaurants, shops, food carts and people watching. There are always so many events going on during the holidays one just might not have enough time to see everything.

A must see for tourists and visitors who want to get a taste and feel of the city! Plenty of local shops and restaurants along the ocean!! Lots of locals are there to enjoy precious time with their family and friends!!! They do charge ten pesos per person to use the public toilets though, but it is air conditioned and clean!!!!

Was in PV and took an uber to the Malecón boardwalk area and so glad I did. What a beautiful area. Lots of restaurants, shops, vendors. I felt safe and lots of tourists and locals. So glad I checked this area out. Loved all the beautiful statues along the walk way.

A great laid back way to take in a portion of the city. Great views, super wide, lots of sculptures to explore. Some stretches of sand to walk or play in, but much better beaches just a bit south. A lot of things I read called this a "boardwalk," but that's not literally true, it's a typical malecon. There were vendors in a few pockets, but they were quite unobtrusive; definitely doesn't have the tackiness that boardwalks in the US tend to have.

A place you must visit when you are in Puerto Vallarta or you'll see it one way or another. It is the main promenade space alongside the Pacific Ocean, in an area with many shops and restaurants. There are many photo opportunities here, I love the statues (some sculpted by Bustamante) here, the old arch, the views. A place to walk around, linger, people watch. It is an important part of the town, but never very crowded, more laid back. Great to check out, it is part of the PV flavor!

Our first stop on our shore excursion in P.V. was here. It was on Wednesday. There was a huge Zumba class being conducted so we had to go around it. However the three of us did get a photo in. From here we walked up to Church of our Lady Guadalupe a block away. I wished we had more time but it was a warm sunny day. And great view of the Pacific Ocean.

First time here and had a great time. Soo much to see and do around el malecon. So many great food options and beaches to walk through. Bring your water shoes for a better experience. Most of the restaurants and shops around speak English which was nice. I did notice the vendors like to bargain on their merchandise. We would ask for prices and when we would start walking off they would lower the price if we asked for the lowest price they would continue dropping the price. So beware of paying full price for souvenirs. Overall great walk and lots of culture.

We liked our food vendors: you can hear David a mile away selling his oysters, Miguel (clams) wearing "Mexican viagra" t-shirt , Sebastian with his smile and sombrero selling mangos and lastly, Zeke and son "Zeke Ceviche" selling their ceviche tostadas. If you're not staying in a hotel by playas Los Muertos, beach vendors and restaurants on the beach will charge you anywhere from 150 pesos to 450 pesos for their chairs, table and umbrella (depends on your food consumption at their restaurant). Music added ambiance but wasn't the pounding club vibe of some other places. Water in this area is calm and not overly crowded. Maybe I just got lucky, but the people sitting near me were friendly which was nice on my solo trip. The menu looks good, and those around me got their food relatively quickly and had no complaints, but my experience was different. It took forever to get someone to take my order. Well over half an hour, I'd been given no update about my order. When my waiter finally happened to pass by, I asked about my food, and told him to cancel my cocktail and just bring me water. I was so dehydrated and hungry . The water didn't take too long (though it should've been faster considering the extended wait already), but my ceviche took at least another half hour to get to me. It looked ok and tasted fine, but within an hour, my stomach turned sour. I spent the next two days feeling sick. It left me wondering if my food had been sitting out. I'm not saying don't go there, but be careful with what you order, and if your food isn't served promptly, maybe cancel it just to be safe.

Our adventure began with a scenic 45-minute boat ride to the island, and from the moment we stepped on board, the staff made us feel like VIP guests. We were welcomed with smiles, fresh orange juice, coffee drinks, and helpful information about the day ahead. The energy was upbeat and fun, with lively music and entertainment that made the journey fly by. To top it all off, we even spotted dolphins swimming alongside the boat on the way over. It was a magical moment that set the tone for the day. Once we arrived at Las Caletas, we were greeted with a delicious welcome taco buffet. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely friendly, attentive, and joyful. The beach was beautiful and peaceful. Although all the beach chairs were taken when we arrived, a server came right over, took our drink order, and promised to bring chairs out to us, which he did within minutes. That kind of thoughtful service continued the entire day. The unlimited drinks were a huge plus. You did not even need to leave your towel or chair. Servers came by about every ten minutes, offering refills or checking if you needed anything else. Their attention made relaxing on the beach even more enjoyable. The beach was perfect, and the water was stunning, crystal clear, and comfortably warm. Lifeguards were not only stationed on the sand but also in the water, keeping a close eye on everyone. At one point, we saw them immediately assist a mother and her young child who had fallen off a paddleboard. Their attention and quick response were impressive and reassuring. Snorkeling was the highlight of the day. My teenage daughter and I spent about 45 minutes exploring the water and were amazed by the colorful fish swimming right beneath us. The gear was easy to check out and in excellent condition. We also booked a monkey encounter, which was fun and memorable, and the buffet lunch overlooking the turquoise bay was picture-perfect. The food was fresh and tasty, and the setting was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The boat ride back was just as fun as the trip there. The crew passed out margaritas and beer, played party music, and put on a hilarious show that had everyone laughing and singing along. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. I have never been on an excursion quite like this. It was thoughtful, safe, relaxing, and fun all at once. Every detail was handled with care, and it truly felt like a little slice of paradise. If you are sailing anywhere near Puerto Vallarta, do not miss Las Caletas. It is absolutely unforgettable.

El Solar is no-frills, but it's great if you aren't high maintenance and want a place where you can drink and dine steps away from the ocean. If you come here, stick to the drinks. They were tasty and strong, with creative combinations. The food, on the other hand, was a massive miss. We ordered the garlic shrimp pan for $180 pesos and were disappointed. The shrimp was seasoned well, but the portion size was really small. The bread it was served with was stale and gross. We enjoyed the complimentary bowl of chips and salsas more than the appetizer. Next up we got shrimp tacos in pastor and baja styles (3 small tacos per order, $230 pesos each). The tacos fared a little better, but we didn't enjoy them as much as everyday street tacos that you can get from carts around town. My tacos had an off-putting, super bright, neon orange color to them (see photos) that admittedly freaked me out. I ate them, but I still wonder what made them that color! The shrimp was grilled with chunks of pineapple, red onion, and cilantro. The baja style shrimp tacos were traditional and battered and fried, with lettuce and sauce. The food wasn't bad, but I would not eat here again. The drinks were the real deal. Creative cocktails, including the incredibly tasty watermelon margarita, were home runs. Note that the drinks are VERY small, so you will want to order at least two per person (okay, maybe three). They also aren't as cheap as you can get drinks at other, more local bars around town, however. The setting is nice, including a large outdoor patio and seats directly in the sand on the beach. This is a public beach, so don't expect resort quality amenities. We didn't notice vendors coming up to anyone though, which is rare in Mexico. If you look like a tourist, they will bug you. The beach isn't glamorous, but it's a nice place to sit out and listen to the ocean breeze. Note that this place is near an open dumpster so if it's super hot or windy, you WILL get a wiff of nasty garbage. Note that this place is strictly CASH ONLY, or at least that's what they told us on the day we visited. Is this true all the time? I'm not sure. But bring pesos or US dollars just in case.

The water temp was just right, the waves and tide were both gentle and the sand bar stretches out pretty far making for a safe beach for kids. The thing we really liked were just how few tourists were around..seems more like a local spot. (Please be sure not be one of the visitors to ruin that!) There ARE a few vendors amongst the handful of beach bars, but they were nothing like the "hawks" we were accosted by in Cabo. The beach bars all provide tables and chairs and an umbrella to their patrons. We quickly checked out all their menus and found the one that looked best to us. Some of the restaurants provided free parking, sand toys for the kids, etc... but again they expect purchases of a "plate" per person. We opted to use the huge parking lot instead just up from the beach (30 pesos/day) so we could scope out and choose our eats instead of being locked in. Overall this is a killer, chill spot. Hopefully by sharing this hidden gem, others will enjoy and be sure NOT to ruin it...
