Michael is a top-tier drummer and an academically trained musician who's been part of several bands, some of which have toured nationally. Maybe I just caught him on the right day, but it is easy to feel, in the presence of this musician, that he a natural teacher. He has an excellent setup in a free standing garage behind his house. He not only took the time on the phone to explore what I'm interested in learning, but upon arrival to the lesson he put me through exercises as we talked more about styles of playing and he thoroughly assessed my abilities. During the lesson I always felt listened to and as he showed me the exercises that could improve my technique, I never sensed he was going to try to force me to play like him. Mike is patient, articulate, and has a life's calling to play and teach music. He seems to share his passion for learning with his students. At least, he did with me.
