It was a storm day in the afternoon, moments unique! Coming with all the family here and taking pictures and remember all one day in the future

I used the app Pacer to track my walk

This is my new favorite social distancing activity!! Today my dog and I enjoyed our afternoon here walking the Mallard Lake Trail a couple of times over. It was a gorgeous sunny day and a nice amount of people were out walking, jogging, bicycling, fishing, kayaking and picnicking. Dogs are allowed on leashes and plenty of people had strollers - there's room for everyone. Social distancing was being practiced with no issues. The bathrooms and picnic tables are closed due to the governor's current stay at home order. There is a big parking lot that was pretty crowded but after a few minutes I found a great spot.

Nice forest preserve that's just the right size for fishing, hiking, picnics, or biking - not too small or too large. A bridge overpass across County Farm Rd. offers an additional trail for biking and access to Hawk Hollow Preserve and the Western Branch of the DuPage River. You're near commercial shopping centers and residential neighborhoods, but forget that once you're inside.

Nice walking trails. Lots of people were out walking and bike riding. At least a dozen people fishing and some in their canoes. May 2020. Good to get out in nature. Even a couple having a picnic. So good to see so many out enjoying the weather. I thought it was very clean and lots of options to go for a ride or walk. Seen over 100 people and only 4 with masks on but for the most part people were social distancing so no worries for those who are scared in such big wide open areas. We choose trails not around the lake but will diffidently try the trail around the lake. Believe it was about 2 miles around.

Come here to get away and be surrounded by nature. I've been coming here for years to Kayak along with running/walking on the trails. You'll see wildlife such as deer, birds, ducks, & fish. The kayak/canoe drop is a bit of a distance to the parking lot. While some users have carts to tow their crafts to the water, I just carry mine in. Be sure to have a water usage stamp and boat permit which is annual or a daily rate because the sheriff does a great job checking. The only sad complaint is sometimes having to smell cigarette/cigar smoke in the cool breeze from others. Oh well. Very clean, well maintained, and safe area otherwise.

Such a beautiful area! I went from 4:30pm-6:15pm on a Tuesday night. There were a good amount of visitors, but never did it feel crowded at all! There is so much nature all around, and so many trails to lose yourself on! (Literally...I had to turn around about 4 times because I didn't know where the heck I was.) I ended up walking around 4.8 miles in total. I can't wait to come back and explore some more! While this area is great for kids, it is ALL OPEN WATER. There isn't any guarding or fencing. Just so parents are aware! Caution - the bathroom stalls have no doors, they can easily be seen into by outsiders, and the toilets do not flush! Either go beforehand, or try to have someone there to stand and keep guard for you. (I just kept my fingers crossed that I would avoid that scene haha.) Bringing some toilet paper isn't a bad idea either, just in case. :)

As a famous writer puts it, the 'burbs are a lot cooler than they get credit for. Well, the numerous forest preserves are the coolest thing about the 'burbs, if you ask me. Mallard Lake Preserve is simply beautiful. In the summer months, we usually come here close to sunset time. Recently we spotted two deer (or the same deer twice) on two evenings less than a week apart. Keep your eyes peeled when driving (or biking) on the long driveway between the Schick Road entrance and the parking lot. One of the deer seemed to have an affinity for rock & roll music, just fyi. The gravel trail that loops around the lake is relatively short with a couple of cool bridges over the lake. The gravel path leading away from the loop will take you past a short bridge over a creek and eventually get you to a playground in Heritage Park. The gravel path along the creek will take you to a wooded trail through a less-travelled tiny peninsula. The only downside of this preserve is the noise from a seemingly constant stream of low flying jets to and from O'Hare 25 miles away.

The Mallard Lake area is so beautiful. If you're looking for a spectacular trail to "get your steps in" this is one worth checking out. Scenery is lovely, wildlife is abundant. Kids will enjoy walking and seeing the fish off the docks. We saw boats, fishermen, runners, kids taking walks in strollers, dogs, etc. there are picnic areas as well. Portapottys too! It's just very well maintained. Apparently there are some very big fish here too. I enjoyed my visit!

This places is so beautiful very relax enjoy this area in Dupage

Lovely park... had tons of fun here... went on a weekend. People were out having picnics, running, fishing , kayaking. Took my dog for walk and after an hour and a half hike she was ready to go. My only complaint would be that the trails didn't have signs which made it easy to get lost.

Taken before sunset. Great for running.

One of my favorite places to fish! I just wish people would clean up after themselves instead of leaving trash everywhere.

We often end up parked in our car staring at Lake Michigan at Forest Park Beach. We're convinced that all the other couples we see there are also doing the same thing ;-) Last week, our laziness and overwhelm forced us to get out of the car and take in a fresh air walk along the lakefront. We walked south past the concessions and over near the boating facility. We typically don't leave our car unattended, just in case we might get a ticket. We took the risk, and it was so worth it. TBH I don't think they are monitoring the parking lots or ticketing right now, but I'm not 100% sure. What an absolutely gorgeous discovery! We honestly felt like we were on vacation (without kids). The air was fresh, the water was fairly calm, and we felt grateful to be living near such a beautiful oasis. Along the walkway we discovered a play area for kids, boats ready to launch, a covered area with picnic tables, tall lampposts and pristine landscaping. At the very end of our walk was a goose waiting for her goose companion to come back from sea (lol). We learned from a local that the goose had been there for a few days. Anyway, the sidewalk came to an abrupt end, something like out of a Shel Silverstein poem. We turned around, took a deep breath, and received a call from one of our sons that he and his brother were about to bring a bunch of friends over to our house. And just like that, our peace and calm came to a stop. Until next time...

I was harassed/shamed when I requested a reasonably accommodation to be dropped off/picked up. I did not ask for entry/parking. All I wanted was a small accommodation to be dropped off and picked up. I was harassed and wasn't allowed to be picked up due to my disability. This is a violation of the ADA (American Disability Act) and was discriminated against due to my disability. LFB is considered a public park and was in violation of my rights as a person with a disability. I understand there are rules and I just wanted a reasonable accommodation to be allowed to be dropped off and picked up not harassed and shamed and left standing in the heat while my husband explained the situation. He showed the gate guard a copy of my "Illinois ID marked as a person with a disability." Beach management need to educate their staff as to making simple reasonable accommodations for people with a disability. They (staff) have no rights to judge and disregard persons with a disability. Such can be reported and subject to significant fines and lawsuits. I suggest ADA compliance and policies for persons with a disability are seriously reviewed and followed according to the American Disability Act. This should NOT have transpired and was humiliating, to be honest.

However, around 12:20 PM, the sky turned black. We immediately turned around and began pedaling back to the dock as fast as we could. While we were heading back, a safety staff member on a speedboat approached us. He told us we had to return to shore but added that he couldn't tow us in--we had to pedal all the way back ourselves. While we were already doing that, the storm was rolling in incredibly fast, and it was a genuinely scary experience. As we finally approached the dock in the storm, we saw two teenage employees who had been assisting people earlier. One of them looked right at us, but instead of helping us secure the boat, both boys ran back into the covered checkout area and completely ignored us. As we struggled to park and tie up the boat in the pouring rain, not a single staff member stepped out to help us dock safely. Meanwhile, at least 10 employees were crowded inside the checkout area. As a person of color, I am unfortunately always hyper-aware of how I might be treated in certain environments. I have visited this forest preserve many times, always thought it was beautiful, and was so excited to show my boyfriend around. To be treated with such a lack of care was incredibly disappointing. When we spoke to the male manager, he explained that they are required to clear the water during storms. My boyfriend clarified that we had no issue with leaving the water; our issue was the complete lack of staff assistance to help us dock safely in a dangerous situation. The manager offered us a "rain check" for a free rental, but missing out on time wasn't the issue--our safety was. No one seemed to care that we were the last ones out on the water. I hope this forest preserve implements a better emergency protocol, because storms on the water can quickly become life-threatening. I guess my question is if the staff are closely checking the weather , why even let people still go out on the water ? Instead of saying "hey there's a storm that is going to be rolling through , we are holding back on rentals at this time for safety reasons " .
