We came for lunch on a Saturday and were very pleasantly surprised. Now, this place looks like it could be in the middle of Greenwich Village in New York or possibly Portland, Oregon it has that slightly grunge look to it with at the same time being a bit upscale. The menu has lots of options, both for carnivores and vegetarians. Plenty of fresh baked goods, chicken sausages, eggs, frankfurters and other sausages etc. We ordered the superpower which was two different sausage type links, with sautéed spinach and roasted tomatoes, a large piece of a very creamy French toast and a small cast-iron pot with creamy scrambled eggs. In addition to all that on the platter there was a small, almost tiny bowl of fresh granola mixed with freshly cut peaches and apples in a little bit of a syrup, also a corn muffin for each person. Before the food came out they brought a bread basket with two slices each of three different types of bread - seeded bread, a dark bread, and a white country type loaf. It was served with a strawberry butter which was divine. Our second entrée choice was that chicken apple sausage which was three separaten2 1/2 ounce patties of very lean chicken sausage with a little bit of fennel in it and I did not notice the apple whatsoever, three large wedges of fried cheddar polenta that had lots of flavor, a poached egg in the center on top of sautéed red onions, red, yellow and green peppers with cherry tomatoes and spinach. It was a lot of food! The only problem with that dish was that the red onions were nearly raw and very harsh. Both of those dishes are also served with cafe con leche, tea, mate or lemonade. We opted for bottles of water. They serve a bunch of sandwiches until 8 PM and it looks like all of the breakfast until four and then they serve a bunch of deli/meat and charcuterie platter's between four and eight. Looks like they have a separate menu for dinner. The ambulance is very cute - the front room is kind of like a porch before you get into the main restaurant and all of the furniture is mismatched all over the entire restaurant. When you walk in the coffee station and pastries and kitchen are to the right and there's more seating to the left, continue through the back and you go to an open patio and the restrooms are to the right and back with coed services for the sinks and individual stalls labeled for each sex. The food was good enough and different enough - and quite a welcome change of pace from all of the meat here in Argentina! - that we might return for dinner. read more

There are so many things done right here, and they all come together so nicely, that 5+ stars would be more appropriate score. Firstly, the space: an old house typical of the many neighborhoods in BA, with both street and back of the house outdoor seating, and then several open but smartly subdivided sections. Then there's the bake goods: there went my no carb diet! Freshly baked and a great variety to pick from. Full disclosure, I do know one of the principals, and I've seen first hand the extent to which he and the whole team aims at continuously improve the op. Having stayed in a local Air-Bnb in the neighborhood, this was one of the few restaurants that was open around brunch time on a Sunday. The ambiance of the restaurant was rather hip and trendy as it was decorated with old wood and metal knick-knacks which I personally thought added a bit of history and character to this little restaurant. Melvon, most certainly seems like the local place to go with your family and relax. When we arrived in the latter half of the morning, there were multiple families and a mix from an older crowd who seemed to be at peace reading their newspapers and catching up with one another over their espresso. The food was rather great for the most part. I ordered the Rib dish, which was served with a latte, side "salad" (just some lettuce leaves, with a dash of their house dressing). The ribs were wonderfully prepared and cooked in a traditional Argentinian way, the meat simply fell off the bones making it easy to consume with a fork and knife. The portions of the food served also exceeded expectations. If you are looking for a nice meal to satisfy your appetite and like speedy service, I highly recommend this charming little spot. read more

My favorite for brunch. Price practically like in the USA, but great quality and really sweet space and vibe.

The nachos? It's like a 7 year old took stale tortilla chips, moldy shredded cheese, nuked it in the microwave and served it to his mother, burning her hand on the hot plate. The hummus? Looked like poo mixed with cat food. It tasted like smooshed olives. The "homemade bread" never came. The electricity? Went off. Completely. For 10 seconds. SIX TIMES. This place might look classy and tasty, but it is a TRICK. Not worth the 130 pesos. read more
