The menu was in Spanish so it was a little hard for me to understand but the bartender was kind enough to explain it to me and make recommendations based on my taste. While in Argentina, I booked an Airbnb experience with a wonderful wine sommelier who recommended we check out the speakeasy that is Victoria Brown. Holy smokes! This place is THE SPOT to go to when in Buenos Aires, hands down. From the outside, it appears to be nothing but a nondescript falafel shop, but across from the counter where you order shawarma, there is a woman sitting in a chair and you simply approach her and ask if the bar is open. She lets you in through a secret door, and you're immediately transported to another world and time. It's the best thing ever. By the time we arrived, we'd already had dinner and ice cream for dessert, so we weren't hungry but instead perused the drink menu and found some excellent options. Not only are the decor and drinks on point, but the music really made this an excellent experience. They played everything from Macy Gray to Fleetwood Mac to Tina and even some Michael Jackson. Whatever you do, when I'm BA, you MUST check this place out! read more

**THIS REVIEW IS 3,5 STARS** This place has different vibes depending on the time and day you go. I had an experience in both the bar and the restaurant. I friend got us a last minute reservation to dine on Friday night. The table was available from 9-10:30pm which was enough time to order food, eat and move to the bar before the other reservation arrived. Decor is stunning, I loved the vintage/hidden vibe of the restaurant and most would say is quite a nice speakeasy, some of it even reminded me of Titanic. Service was a little confusing and slow. It took about 20 min to get our drinks and 40 to get the food. My friend and I decided to order two drinks and share. We got La Provence and Desde Cuba. The first one is kind of a gin tonic with a lemon twist and the second is a house signature drink that comes in a little brown bag and has smoked rum. I liked both, but the smoked rum was a little too smoked and one cup of it seemed more than enough for my taste. To eat I ordered the gnocchi. It has A LOT of cheese, and it tasted delicious. I really enjoyed my meal, but I can understand that it might be a little heavy for some people. It was a little over 10 and they told us the next reservation had arrived. We ordered the bill - because you need to pay what you consumed in the restaurant, even if you are moving to the bar- l but it took a very long time to arrive. Machine didn't work with my card, and I had to use an emergency credit card to pay my bill - Argentina hates using cards for some reason. At the bar I tried ordering gin and they said they were out of the two brands I asked for, funny enough one of them was in the first drink I ordered so I wonder what they put instead, while charging me for the expensive liquor. In conclusion: nice vibe, good food, great soundtrack although a little loud. Service could be better. read more

Disclaimer: I'm spoiled by the NYC cocktail scene and I have a friend who is a kickass mixologist and works at high-end venues. Came here in Winter (low season), a Friday night for cocktails around 11pm. Went right in after speaking with the hostess, who by the way was standing right outside the "brick wall" (door), behind a podium. I wouldn't really consider those elements part of a speak-easy but ok. The decor is steam-punky. I dig it. The giant bronze bell/barrel looking light fixtures are nice. The big clock in the center is neat, albeit I believe the open face clock and those cog wheels for show. The service here was great. While I spoke fluent Spanish, our server spoke excellent English to communicate with the rest of the party. I found her to be attentive and not pushy. Why only three stars? The cocktails. Beautiful menu. Nice sounding descriptions/components. But the Unsual Negroni and El Cobre all slammed quite hard on a wall of sweetness. (I heard this is local cultural thing. I was told that most cocktails across BA leans heavily on the sweet side). El Cobre tasted slightly more complex, with some potentials. It was served in a bottle along side captured smoke in a glass. This raised many questions in me. Is the cocktail in the bottle already smoked? Is the captured smoke in the turnt upside down glass just for show. Does the creator of the cocktail intend it to be just a short impression of senses on the smokiness at the very beginning? In order for the cocktail to be "smokey", the liquid and the smoke needs to co-exist in a closed environment for a little while or be stirred/agitated a bit. Not even half way thru my cocktail, I could not recall any hints of smoke. So I'm a bit baffled. The squid ink croquettes were good. I would order that again. Would I come back? Probably. Because the seats are comfortable, the one tapas dish I tried was nice and the service was really nice. However, I was not impressed by the cocktails I tried. They take foreign credit cards. read more

Steampunk bar full of surprising delights. Great for any meal, great for working, great for drinks. The menu may be small, but it's more than enough. The unique and exquisite food dishes include breakfast with eggs (which alone makes this place worth visiting), as well as their famous "spicy french toast". Good environment for working any time in the day. There's plenty of space before 4pm, and the wifi seems to be reliable. The ambience is what tipped my review over to 5 stars. It's rare to find a spot so unique and delightful. The steampunk theme is unmistakeable but not over-the-top. Subtleties like exposed pipes and surprises like a hidden door make this place as memorable as any. Immediately one of my favorite spots in Palermo, even though I have yet to go at night, which is what others have recommended. This is one place I'll be returning to frequently. read more

What a beautiful place in Palermo. I have gone at night for cocktails and for brunch when the bar is hidden. This speakeasy has great cocktails and brunch options. The only problem we encountered was a bug in a salad...and my caesar salad was full of anchovy-based dressing which made it hard to eat. However, the orange juice is amazing and the service is quite amazing. If you're going for cocktails, ask for the special of the day ($200 pesos) and you won't be dissatisfied. read more

Cute looking place with a secret back door to a bar. The real secret they leave you guessing is the food is "ok" but the service is about as good as a 2 year old toddler waiting on your table. Unless of coarse you are a local, I, an American, watched 7 people get their food and drinks before I could receive a coffee which took 25 minutes to get. The seven people I mention above all entered and ordered after myself and my girlfriend.. The same amount of time it took to serve my girlfriends veggie sandwich nearly the entire restaurant ordered ate and left before we got a coffee and one sandwich... When I asked "Tu habla English," I was told by our server quite confidently that she spoke English, which she did, very well I might add. So there wasn't a language barrier at all.. Bathroom was difficult to enter with the door system they had in place. Once you finally get into the bathroom after several tries it resembles something like a drug den with a toilet seat completely covered in piss... If you speak Spanish try it out you may have better luck with the bathroom, shit service and mediocre food, otherwise fuck this place. read more

The whole appeal was for the place to be a speakeasy, a hidden bar. But it wasn't that hidden. There was a hostess station giving the bar away, we didn't even get to find and push the wall open. We only ordered one drink each and they weren't that great. I didn't even finish mine. My suggestion would be to move the hostess station between the wall and the curtain to give the place a real speakeasy feel. read more

We went to this speakeasy last night and really enjoyed the entrance and the secret passage door. Drinks were very sweet. One of my friends had to send it back as it was so syropy that none of us even could bear a thought of helping her out to finish it. Drinks are $120-$200 pesos a pop We ordered octopus and the portion came out to be smaller than a size you get when you order tasting menu. So not good for sharing. Very nice breakfast. Everything we tried was good, the spicy french toast that is not so spicy, the eggs, the tostadas, coffee and tea. The service is somewhat slow, it can take 30 min+ to get the food and the pastry section was almost empty and the cakes not very good the last time we went. Go for breakfast and skip the sweets. Update: the opening hours are impossible to understand, the tea is terrible Green Hill and the orange juice is not freshly squeezed. But the spicy toast is still good. read more

The Pimms Cup that could have had a unique spin, simply loaded up on bitters with a cuc, blackberry and pink grapefruit slice. Zero balance or unique twist. They couldn't even come up with something unique for our designated driver other than a cola or water. I did a good job of adding my misplaced mint and some citrus to her water that at least made for some fun to distract from the hip hop and unfriendly, unsophisticated service. read more

This place far exceeded my expectations. My husband and I went for New Year's Eve. In BA, there are not a ton of options on the holiday, but it was on a list from our hotel with a pre-fixed menu for about $120usd per person. While that is somewhat steep, it was on average what you'd have to pay for a meal that night, but it was SO worth it and more. Wine was included (basically all you could drink), a welcome cocktail and champagne. The food was excellent - so good and interesting. It's a really cool place - don't let the front part that looks like a simple cafe fool you ... There is a door that opens up to a huge restaurant with great decor. I especially recommend it for New Yorkers, who are looking for great food and a nice night. read more
