This place is the BEST! Bonus the food is not only delicious but it is Gluten Free! I have never had gluten-free food that tasted so good. We were in town for 10 days and I think we ate at least one meal here every day! The employees are wonderful. Everyone spoke English which was great for me since my Italian is not great. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants in Rome that serve pizza. In our recent visit to Italy, the pizza we ate at Mama Eat was THE BEST. The crust was phenomenal: thin in parts, buttery on the outside. The toppings we had were outrageous in their flavor: ricotta, zucchini flowers, mozzarella. This delectable restaurant creates every imaginable dish sans gluten, and it's all spectacular. I personally identify as a gluten lover, and their pizza was some of the best I had during my two week vacation in Italy. This was a last minute find and I am so glad the restaurant we were headed to was closed. I ordered Risotto, and it was the BEST risotto that I have ever eaten. Sketchy, sketchy tourist trap. We had different lunch place we had planned in the district. Unfortunately, we were caught in the rain and hence we came upon the restaurant. Before seating, the man who introduced himself as the owner of the restaurant acted very friendly and sociable. He even took my phone and connected it to the house WiFi. In a short period of time, he succeeded of added my friend on Facebook as the two stared talking about restaurant businesses in the States. It was clear that he had some business ideas in mind, perchance in the States. Promptly after we ordered our food and drinks, he disappeared, back on the street with opened menu in hands, trying his best to allure other tourists into the restaurant. He was back to our table occasionally, and the business related talk resumed. We ordered the still water, and unlike any other restaurants we've been eating out in Rome, the restaurant brought the water in a vase. The taste was none like bottled water, but a tap water. House wine. I got massive headaches after drinking their wine. I don't drink much, but headache after drinking only occurs when I drink cheap bottles. When we got our bill, we noticed that there were service fees added. When doing my research before flying in, I read numerous articles about restaurants charging extra fees on tourists' bills. First, I asked the staff nicely to take it off the bill, and they refused. We asked to speak with the "owner" who had been hiding out and clearly knew what the quarrel was about. He came back and told us to deal with the issue directly with the waitstaff since he is NOT the owner. Then, he promptly disappeared again to next door, which seemed to be the second restaurant owned by the same management. Worst experience during our 4 days of stay in Rome. read more

Mama! Eat is one of the best gluten free places around. My whole family is celiac, so this was perfect. They have an entire gluten free menu, and cook the gluten free items in a separate area of the kitchen. It was not that hard to find, and very close to cute shops and the Piazza. We ordered two pizzas. One marinara add mushrooms, gluten free. The other pizza was also gluten free, but was mozzarella, ham, and mushrooms. The crust did not even taste gluten free, it tasted like real gluten pizza! I wanted to eat 3 of them. The pasta with vegetables was also amazing. The server was nice, and spoke both Italian and English. He completely knew how to put the order in and made sure that it would not have any cross contamination with gluten. I had one of the most amazing and wonderful experience of eating out at this restaurant two days ago. At our visit here in Rome this restaurant is located just a corner from where we are staying. My partner who is gluten intolerant chose this restaurant because it seems to be the only restaurant in Rome that cater to gluten intolerant people. This is my second time here since we arrived in Rome to visit my partner's cousin. I ordered arancini because I was not that hungry at all but my two companions ordered pizza. I tasted my two companions pizza and was amazed at how light and tasty the crust. Nothing like the thin or heavy crust I used to get in Canada. My arancini however did not arrive till very late. I can sum this up quickly. If you're gluten intolerant, then access to gluten free pizza and pasta makes this place 5 stars otherwise it's below average for Rome. Mama Eats has a full gluten free menu, parallel to a regular menu they also serve- amazing. I have never had so many gluten free choices. We all got to eat! I don't give out four stars very often so three stars from me is a definite recommendation. The atmosphere is relaxed and up to date and the staff was friendly and helpful. A welcome relief from bullying waiters that we had at a "fine" restaurant last night. I had the fettuccine with baby clams- lots of fresh clams, very light, not heavily seasoned. The best of the night was a side dish of grilled pumpkin, zucchini and fennel- delicious. My husband liked his linguine with bacon and my daughter's pizza roll ( calzone) had a good crust. Had an awesome time here! 3 out of 4 of my family members (including myself) are gluten free (womp, womp) so we obviously came to Mama Eat while visiting my brother during his time studying in Rome. We got really excited by the Gluten Free menu that was 5 pages long and then obviously ordered everything we dream of eating but can't in most cases: fried rice balls, pizza, pasta. Everything tasted great and we felt completely fine afterwards except that we basically needed to be rolled out of there. My Dad who is not gluten free felt kind of left out and didn't have as much fun, but whatever, it wasn't his time to shine. Definitely recommend stopping here if you can't eat gluten! Mama Eat has one of the most extensive gluten free menus I've ever seen. Everything on their menu can be served gluten free. That alone is a good reason to go. When we went, we shared a starter of fries with "sausage" -- in reality it was french fries with a cut up hot dog on top. Despite the surprise at it being a hot dog, the fries were well cooked and the hot dog was tasty. For the entree, I had the gluten free tomato bacon rigatoni. The sauce was good and the pasta was well cooked, but it wasn't a terribly memorable meal. My wife had the meatballs, which were similarly good but salty. Service was excellent -- the waiter was even joking around with us in English (he told us the water was gluten free, heh). Although I didn't have any, the restaurant had three different varieties of the Green's gluten free beer and gluten free desserts (including for take away). I'd suggest going simply for the extensive menu, good service and nice ambiance -- but don't expect the food to knock your socks off. We paid approximately €35 for two 1l waters, a coke, and the food listed above. Not overpriced, but not cheap either. read more

I was told that we had to eat in Trastevere and used Yelp as my guide as neither person recommended a specific restaurant. 3 Stars at many places kept us away and then when we finally decided on a higher scored place it was closed. This was the best, most versatile, and delicious meal I've eaten in Italy thus far. Not only was the waitress who helped my family, and me, incredibly friendly- but she was completely knowledgeable and understanding about celiac/ gluten intolerance. The gluten-free food was exceptional, plentiful, and served and prepared on its own plates and friers. The four other non-celiacs I was with swore that their food was incredible as well. We were obsessed with this place. Being gluten free in Europe kind of sucks, but this place makes it all better. Two kitchens provide options for celiacs and customers without allergies. So my boyfriend and I could both enjoy. The gluten free pasta is SO good, and the pizza was pretty killer. Needless to say, we went three times!! And the service was just as good as the food. We became super friendly with all the staff. Including but not limited to the singing waiter. If we were there longer, we would have gone out to drinks with all of them.
