    Pasta Carbonara
    Hoonie K.

Another random restaurant we happened upon while visiting the Campo de' Fiori market. We sat outside and had a great view of the marketplace. The service was good. Food was good to very good: Pasta Bolognese - 4/5: simple dish that just works. Pretty big portion with a good meat sauce. Pasta Carbonara - 3/5: traditional carbonara but too salty. Pizza Frutti di Mare - 4/5: love that the clams and mussels are still in their shells. You can taste the juices from the shellfish in the pizza, yummy!

If I could give a half-star, Mercado Hostaria would have 3.5 stars from me. The patio of Mercado Hostaria called to my friends and I when we explored Campo di Fiore on a Sunday afternoon. We'd already looked through the market and wanted to sit down and eat. The host was very personable and funny as he talked to us while we looked at the menu board. When he told us that they did have gluten free pasta, we decided to sit down and eat here. We ordered fairly quickly, and I confirmed with our server that my meal needed to be both gluten and dairy free. He made a note in his phone that my spaghetti pomodoro was gluten free and without cheese. My friends ordered a pizza and a gnocchi dish. The food started to come out in a fair amount of time. But after my friends got their orders sat in front of them, the server looked at mine, shook his head and walked away without another word. I figured it was probably not gluten free -- turns out I was right. Several minutes later, a woman from the kitchen came out to apologize for the mistake and let me know my gluten free pasta would be out soon, they were remaking it. I was grateful they caught it before giving it to me! I told my friends to go ahead and eat and they did... good thing, too, because my food didn't come out until at least 25 minutes after the woman's apology. We didn't note the time before then, so it might've been closer to 40 minutes between when my friends received their food and my dish came out correctly. Mistakes happen, and they did apologize three or four different times. The wait to get the correct order was a bit long for a simple pasta dish, though, in my opinion. When the gluten free spaghetti pomodoro did come out, I wasn't super impressed at first. It tasted fine, like spaghetti. Then I stirred it up and the olive oil in the pomodoro at the bottom of the dish was able to cover more noodles. Made a big difference! I ate the entire dish pretty quickly (I was hungry by this point!). It was a tasty meal, one I'd say is worth the 10 €... if it wasn't so delayed in coming out. I did enjoy the people watching and chill vibe of the patio and the food, when it came out, was good. The servers were all kind and personable to us. So I'd be willing to potentially eat here again and give them another try. If my food didn't come out more quickly though, I'd walk away next time.

Amazing service and food. Diamanté and Dora were amazing and went above and beyond to make my dining experience wonderful. They have a full gluten free kitchen. The pasta is fresh gluten free pasta! I highly recommend!

The food was amazing! The service was great, and waiter was flexible about everything even last minute orders. All staff were friendly and helpful. The ambiance was great and the outside had a lot of light and warmth even late at night! Make a plan to stop by if you're in the area!

Recommended from our bnb host. One of the many restaurants found in the Campo di Fiore are, and one of the best IMO. They offer outdoor seating, to enjoy a bit of people watching and the beautiful rustic buildings that surrounds the plaza. Menu includes Italian favorites like pasta, pizzas and variety of appetizers, as well as some American favorites that cater to a tourist clientele. The bread is very good, might be freshly backed, which makes all the difference in the world. They also have a variety of beers, cocktails and of course wine. I had their cheese board and meats as an appetizer, very delicious and the bread was great as I mentioned before. Followed by Carbonara, one of my favorite Italian dishes, I would give it a 8 out of 10. Also recommend a cocktail by the name of "The Godfather", think of it as an Italian Old Fashioned. The service is a hit or miss. I've been a total of 3 times to this place and I could say that its not consistent. It's either really good service, or just ok. Overall it was Delicious!!

We anticipated crowds and a wait, but there was actually no wait at lunch time and there were actually quite a few open tables. That was a bit of a concern at first (because a line and crowd usually means the place is good), but as I saw (and smelled) food coming out my concerns dissipated! Unfortunately our waiter wasn't able to identify another customer's pasta dish for us, but it all worked out in the end because I ended up loving our choices. We got the carbonara, which was cheesy and tasty,...Everything you want a creamy pasta to be! Pasta is al dente, felt so fresh and if you're from America, you're gonna love this because I felt the difference immediately. The meatballs were soft and tasty. We loved the chicory and potatoes! Those potatoes were so good I would choose them over fries (omg so American I know). I got the Mimi's spritz, which tasted like a Aperol spritz. One of my favorite spritz's of the trip! It's true what they say about Italian ingredients, and the price point is great. I tried some of my friend's Italian soda called Chinotto Neri, it's like a cola but less sweet but still tasty and refreshing. Mimi is a dependable pasta spot, with plenty of menu options for pasta and beverages. If I had more time in Rome I would have certainly returned especially given that they have several locations in the city. Highly recommended!

Authentic Rome on a plate worth the wait every single time!…read more This is hands down one of my wife's and my favorite restaurants in Rome. We first discovered Mimi e Coco years ago with friends, and on our most recent trip this fall, we made a point to visit twice. They now have two locations, and while the quality is incredible at both, we personally prefer the original Via del Governo Vecchio location. It was the first one we ever visited, and it just feels the most intimate and special to us. If you are coming from the States, forget what you think you know about Italian food. This isn't the heavy, over-sauced stuff we get back home. This is authentic Roman cuisine: simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The Must-Haves: The Food: You cannot go wrong here, but the Carbonara and the Lasagna are our absolute favorites. They are rich and flavorful without being heavy. The Drinks: Their spritz game is strong. Definitely try the Limoncello Spritz it is the perfect refresher after a day of walking. The Vibe & Logistics: Despite how popular Rome is, this feels like a true local spot rather than a tourist trap. The service is consistently phenomenal warm, welcoming, and fast. However, keep in mind that these are small spots (especially the Governo Vecchio one). I highly suggest making a reservation. If you walk in during rush hour, be prepared for a 30-minute wait (or more), but trust me it is very well worth it. If you want a real taste of Rome, put this at the top of your list!

Verdict: The Ribs were absolutely the best. HUGE and well smoked. They don't really need BBQ sauce, but it makes a good addition. The BBQ sauce is light and different but surprisingly tasty. The chicken was pretty decent. If you want chicken, it'll do the job just fine, but I'd focus on the ribs. The beans were very different, but also pretty good. We…read moretried to hit this place that always seemed to have empty tables, but all of the tables were prenoted. We kept on walking up this small street in Trastevere that we hadn't been before, and it was busy on a Fri night. We ran into (The Duke) totally by chance, bc we saw empty tables inside: We were glad we did. For our primo, we shared a raw artichoke heart salad. For our secondi, ITC had the spaghetti guanciale (no pic), and I had the griglia mixta. Lastly, for our dolce we had a fruity dessert. First of all, the raw artichoke was a nice change of pace vs all the fried carciofi we had been eating. It had a nice texture, and the sweetness of the artichoke contrasted nicely w/ the light, slightly tart dressing. ITC really enjoyed her spaghetti bc it had the pork cheek. I had a bite and thought it was better vs the amatriciana she had in Tivoli. The small amount of guanciale was perfectly balanced against the al dente noodles. Thirdly, my dish of grilled meats was about as Roman as you are going to get. The meats were simply seasoned w/ sale & pepe, and came with a lemon to contrast the savoriness of the meat. There was no side, and I didn't eat the bread like most of the trip, bc I didn't want to waste room. Lastly, the light, fruity dessert was a good way to finish a savory meal. Regarding the ambiance, its rustic in here. Many of the patrons were locals, but there were at some Am tourists wearing workout shorts, T shirts and basketball shoes. By the looks of their bodies, their shoes have never touched a court - Ride da Solo (LOL). The service was good, not great. ITC felt our waiter was a little inattentive, even by Italian standards. BTW, tipping is optional in most of Europe. There is no line for a manchia (gratuity) on the check. However, most waiters/waitresses appreciate a €5 or €10 note, depending upon the size of the check. I highly recommend ID if you are looking for rustic Italian food, on a small street in Trastevere that only has foot traffic. The food is really good, and the ambiance is rustic and tranquil.
