So glad we did! We walked into the visitor center and had no issues booking a tour. We took a causal stroll around the grounds before heading to the beautiful mansion. There we had Kit show us around the house and gave us the history of the Rowan family, who owned built the house in 1795. She was so kind and informative! You learn about the Rowan's and their cousin, Stephen Foster, who was inspired by the house for his song " My Old Kentucky Home." We appreciated that they also include the history and stories of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the grounds. This is a must visit when in Kentucky!

We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

There is a bush behind that monument, walk behind that bush and you will find this cool and unique piece of Bardstown history. I had no idea the first steamboats affiliation with the state of Kentucky or the city or bardstown so this was a cool find that makes for fun and good photo ops.

The historical society sign on the sidewalk is what originally drew my attention to Thai old one classroom school house. I honestly thought it was just a shed for the grave yard landscaper or something. The door and windows are deadlocked with a bolt which I understand but is also Unfortunate. I would of loved to take a peep inside to see if it had been preserved. Ive ran into Similar extremely old school houses that was setup that way and it's always a cool find. Overall a nice and unexpected little hidden gym in historic downtown Bardstown. Maybe I can find out if they ever open it up so I can check out the inside. Either that or my original gut feeling that it holds lawnmowers and things for the grave yard could be true. But hopefully it's restored.

Bardstown welcome center also known as the former city hall of the city is one of my favorite…read morebuildings to look by and check out in the entire state of Kentucky. It sits beautifully and gigantically on the middle of a roundabout with several shoppes and places to eat surrounding this. Even as a kid when visiting my old Kentucky home the thing I remembered most was the "big building that had a circle around it". Just makes it shout that it's important. Note city halls should do that. Defiantly hard to miss. From what I could gather this mainly serves as the welcoming center now but still has some branches of government work held here. The outside is beautiful with plenty of places to sit and a couple cool monuments to Bardstown heroes and famous alumni. Overall I still love driving by or around this building. Very cool site to see and I look how I can go inside it now that it's a visitors center. Cool piece of Kentucky history and architecture here.

Moore was a 1945 graduate of West Point who had fought in Korea before he was sent to Vietnam in 1965 as commander of a battalion of the 7th Cavalry. The Battle of Ia Drang, in 1965, was the first major U.S. engagement of North Vietnamese Army troops. The 43-year-old lieutenant colonel, saved the lives of most of his men despite being greatly outnumbered (10 to 1) by the NVA. Before the Battle of la Drang was over, 305 Americans had been killed along with an estimated 2,000 North Vietnamese troops. American officials declared the Battle of the la Drang Valley a victory.
