Mama Yo is still new enough that there wasn't even an entry on Yelp. But you can read plenty of reviews on Trip Advisor, where the overall rating is 3.5 stars.
The restaurant has definitely generated excitement in the area. On a Saturday night, it was packed. This is great for the restaurant -- but they were definitely understaffed, so not as good for the customers.
In terms of food, the only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the appetizers were excellent. Chicken satay, dumplings. Delicious.
The main courses, however, were inconsistent. My dish was roast pork -- the sauce didn't taste Asian at all, almost like ketchup. Folks in our party got two different dishes that tasted exactly the same. Someone else got something they said was pretty flavorless.
The restaurant also had an issue with the gas that night -- it stopped working for a bit, which delayed our meal. They told us about it, and offered us free dessert, so we shared a few. They were fine.
Overall, I'll also say the restaurant just didn't feel clean. Our table didn't have a cloth on it, and the table itself was sticky and dirty when we sat down. The rest room was in dire need of cleaning.
Anyway, it was our first time there, and while I can always chalk up an off night to a restaurant, there weren't enough positives to make us want to try it again. read more
