This is a great quick stop to stretch you legs and add something more to your brain. There is a lot of history and wonders at this small park. Those in the car with you (all ages) will enjoy it as well. Lots of photo opportunities. Watch the video inside before you walk about as it will show you what to look for. Make the walk over the dam to the old generator room. Th kids and the kid in you will love it! Look for the large trout below and off to the side near the banks. There are plenty of places for a picnic. Plenty of room to move about before getting back on the road. The 3 questions to learn the answers to are: 1) where is the spring, 2) Where does the water come from and 3) why are there no fish in the lake. The park staff can give you lots of tips on what to do and see. They can also advise on where to eat locally for stop to feed your car. read more

This park was small, but very cool. Mammoth Spring is actually the largest spring in the world, with an average of 9,700 gallons of water exiting the spring every hour. It's about 80ft deep, and because there's a dam, there's a lake and that same 9,700 gallons of water at the dam, spills into guess where, Spring River. There's a trail around the lake, and a railroad museum in the once operative railroad depot, and a still used railroad with quite a few freight trains passing through regularly. There's also ducks and geese, and apparently muskrats as evidenced by the dens on the lake. It made for a nice peaceful tranquil venue for a picnic at table by the damsite. read more

This park was surprisingly nice! We stumbled across it while on a road trip and decided to take a bit of a breather. The water is stunning, the staff is pleasant, and the wildlife is abundant! We took a nice little stroll enjoying watching the birds and the beavers. For all of you history or aquatic buffs there is plenty of educational tidbits throughout the park! It is a very immersive and interesting experience. It isn't the largest park nor the most beautiful but it is certainly worth a visit if you happen to be in the area! read more

Interesting nice small SP. Somethings weren't open but some were. Railroad Museum was closed, Welcome center was open and fish hatchery was closed. Lake and River was cool, spring was interesting. Plan returning later this year when it gets opened up, hopefully. Nice place and worth the time. read more

Other reviews have provided much more useful information than I could, so I don't have a lot to add regarding Mammoth Spring. Although the features here are man made, they are still historic and rather interesting. We stumbled upon this as a place to walk around and use the facilities, but wound up becoming pretty entranced by the park and stayed for about an hour. read more

The park has great walking trails, ducks and geese are over the spring to greet visitors. Also the park has a couple of local Civil War relics for tourists to look at. Other than that this park is enjoyable for people of all ages wanting to spend a nice day. read more

We decided to take a different route home from our property in Hardy, AR and go thru Springfield, MO. My brother had been telling me about this great town right inside the Arkansas border with a beautiful river thru the town and state park. Well, my two little girls (6-8) were with me and when they saw the park, they begged me to stop on our way home so they could see the dam and river. So on our way home, we hit the local DQ (see other review) and headed to the park for a picnic. This park is a diamond in hiding. The park was in incredible condition, from the picnic areas, to the walking trails to the facilities. I just wish it wasn't 4 hours away as I could see this would be a great place to hang out for the day. If you are ever in the area, make the time to go see this state park, you will be glad you did. read more

This is a great, relaxing place to spend a couple of hours. There is a visitor's center, walking trail, small lake, a river, a dam, an old powerhouse generator, and a restored train depot and caboose. There are also picnic areas and lots of scenery. My only complaint is that the train depot museum was supposed to be open from 1pm to 5pm on Sundays. However, by 1:30pm, it still wasn't open and nobody was around it. That's a bit aggravating when it's supposed to be a park attraction. read more

I wasn't expecting to really find anything on our little road trip in Arkansas when I went to see my sister but as I fell asleep in the car, I awoke and saw this beautiful place. It's not a big park from the looks of it, but it's very well-maintained, beautiful landscaping, and has a couple ponds, a little lake, a waterfall, and a dam. We got to see the ducks and beavers up close, we even saw a beaver helping with the dam. It was so cute. I highly recommend anyone stopping by here just to enjoy the view. read more

Our visit to Mammoth Springs was particularly enjoyable. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. We particularly enjoyed the visit to the train station because of its history and there are some very nice displays. Dave (the docent) was knowledgeable and very pleasant. We enjoyed our visit with him and the history of the dam. read more

This Park is nice and large. It's located near Thayer MO. There are walking paths and it is a great place to take a little break durring a long trip and streach your legs while taking in some of the beautiful surroundings. I enjoyed just getting out of the car and walking off a little bit of that road trip, tight muscle feeling. It just smells like nature at Mammoth Springs State Park. I also enjoyed that it was right off the highway so it did not take any extra time away from our long trip, just the time we wanted to take and no more. I would like to go back and spend a couple days in that area sometime. I have heard the fishing is good, it's just off the river, though I have never been fishing there myself. read more

Nice place to take the kids! They have lots of walking trails, a playground, a Frisco train depot museum (you can also go inside the train car), an old canon, and a spot where it looks like you can go swimming. We also spotted several ducks, geese, and a beaver/otter (only saw it's head). They also keep the park grounds trimmed very nicely. read more
