My bathroom pocket door was stuck, off-rail. The door has been having issues for a while. Bryan came out, took the molding off, re-aligned the wheels and got the door to slide smoothly again. It was one of those job where you have to adjust a few times to get it fully aligned as the original installation job was not done well. I had a job done at my place of business 2 years ago. I needed a pole/curtain rod put into the ceiling for a room divider to be hung. I requested that it be a removable pole or pipe so we could take it down when needed. I was quoted $200 for the job. When the job was finished I was told that what I requested wasn't possible, but the handyman put up a pole that would work but was not removable. Then I was charged $400 for the work. It was not mentioned to me during the process of the work that this would be stationary and I could never take it down. I was also not told of the price increase until the job was completed. I paid the bill, frustrated, but didn't want to make a fuss over it. This week I needed to do maintenance on my HVAC unit located in the ceiling and realized it is impossible to do because of the pole being in the way of the units door. I contacted the company to see if there was a way they could fix this problem because I over paid for a pole that I didn't want and it is now giving me new issues. Their response was "I can come remove it, but not for free, and honestly I don't want to do it anyways." I'm a business owner. I would never be so blatantly dismissive of a problem I created. He has fixed hand rails, built steps, a short wall to hold my front walkway up, built a beautiful, sturdy, custom carport, a custom catio that defies cougars to enter, installed 3 exterior doors, a new larger deck with a custom railing, underneath storage space and attached iron gates I was saving from my parents' house that was a perfect match to the existing walkway. I've got more for him to do, but I won't let anyone else work on my house. He's great! Listens to my 'crazy' ideas and then makes them work, sometimes to his surprise! Mark has done professional, competent and sturdy custom construction including replacing and expanding my deck, a new carport, a catio, a short retaining wall, stpes, handrails, and a simple mantle for my rock fireplace that never had one. He installed two new exterior doors for me and fixed a badly repaired (by someone else) concrete driveway end so now low clearance cars can get into my drive without scrapping bottom, but the water flows back towards the road so my driveway doesn't swamp. I have more plans, and I love that he trusts me to know what I want, offering suggestions, letting me know what can't happen and why, and then making my plans happen within constraints. Today I called about some siding repair and other small items. Bryan was ready to schedule a trip to look at the job until I mentioned I lived in Boulder Creek. All of a sudden he was hemming and hawing about driving in the Santa Cruz mountains, specifically in Boulder Creek. Given the extreme winter weather we have experienced the road situation was challenging. However the roads are all clear now. There is no rain let alone a storm on the horizon. Why not come? "I don't need to take every job. Good bye" was the answer. I was shocked!! I could understand if he wanted to schedule the work later to make sure the winter weather was behind us, but to just say I don't need to take your job? It's sometimes hard to get timely work done in the mountains, but MWT responded to my request for a quote in less than hour, and provides service in the Santa Cruz mountains. The handyman showed up for the quote and again on the day of the service appointment on time. He replaced some doorway dry rot for me and added some nice flashing to keep it dry. The first visit was to fix a lot of random broken things in the house which he did right then. We really appreciated the immediateness of the work. Another job was replacing an exterior door and stuccoing part of a wall. They were through in making sure measurements were right and when they came to install the door, which they had ordered and picked up, they got right to work. They were focused, efficient and obviously knew their stuff. It's never easy to match up a new door with existing lock holes but they did it without a peep. These folks seemed fine at first. Made an appt for estimate, they said they had a $35 charge for the estimate. After they came out to look at the work they found about 7 other things they said needed repair and gave us a quote on the full job ( the cost now much higher than what we were planning but i know new stuff comes up so we were willing to listen). Suddenly, even after they sent a quote and explained how great they were and they could do the job, We get an email saying we should use a Contractor for the work, and they were booking into Jan (2018) anyway (and this was early Oct 2017). I asked them why they did not tell us about booking into the next year initially when I called? They gave no reply. They also should refund the $35 estimate fee since THEY refused to do the work , not us, which I mentioned and never got a response back. Would not recommend this business, our trust has been completely broken. What a waste of time and money. read more
