Renters, beware. Abusive, extremely rude and unprofessional. After several un-returned phone calls, my partner finally got an in-person meeting to discuss damages they were trying to make us pay for when we moved out (we had documented evidence that the damages were there before we moved in), and both Dustin and Davya (married couple, conflicts of interest everywhere) continued to escalate and verbally attack him. When my partner realized these people were unwilling/unable to listen, he walked out, and Dustin was so enraged he physically assaulted him outside of the property management office. Ran by losers/grifters/scam artists who are willing to physically assault tenants when they try to advocate for themselves. Worst of the worst. read more

Not only was the property disgusting and out of date, with bad laundry machines and dishwasher, and rats in the basement walls, but these people were terribly rude and inconsiderate. They contacted us 2 YEARS after we moved out about a payment we owed and were never told about. A simple email could've had that paid when it was originally a problem, but they're so inefficient and disorganized that we were not even notified until 2 years later. Ridiculous and unprofessional. Management Associates are trying their best to do the work that needs to be done on a very tight budget. They are responsive

Horrible company due to lack of organization, rude staff, and no organization. This rental company is horrible. The Ladies in there are so rude. There are two girls who sit in the offices to the left when you walk in that cut you off and dont listen to there tenants at all when there is an actual problem, especially if that problem is do to their lack of professionalism and organization. They will tell you what you want to hear over the phone but when you come into the office they will deny it and say "Well thats not in writing so there is nothing we can do." An example that on our lease there is a hand written part saying how "$250 pet deposit was returned" so when I ask why my pet deposit is $500 when there is documentation of them only charging $250. They scramble to come up with some response that is a lie, I know the tenants that have lived here for 2 years and they confirmed that what they told me had happened, never did. Then I say "well according to this the deposit should be $250" they say "well its not" then I simply asked if they could show me where it is written on the lease that the pet deposit is $500, she flipped open two pages, closed the packet again, and said "Well regardless if it is in here or not, thats our policy so if you want to live here you pay it if not you need to find someone to take over your lease." That was just one time we had problems, I didn't even mention how it took them 45 minutes to find our application, co signer forms, and back ground check responses which were in 4 different filing cabinets and one page was even found on top of a bookcase. Moral of the story, they dont even deserve to have empty stars as a rating. Horrible experience. read more

I would give this company 0/5 if possible. This company is extremely shady. They let us rent a 5 bedroom apartment from them but only had 4 people sign the lease. They would cash my rent check and then send me a letter 10 days later stating that my rent was late and that I owed them $100. Despite the fact that they had already cashed my check they then would act like they are doing me a favor by waving the late fee. Do not use this company for your rental needs. I would not give them a single star. My college kids have rented here for three years, give the 30 days required notice (which was actually 45 days) to move and since THEY (Management Associates) are not available to do the final inspection on the move out date, they charge rent for the extra days til they date THEY can inspect. They get your money every which way they can. If I could give them zero stars I would. Anyone looking for a place in Bozeman, consider this before renting from Management Associates. 1) They lie. When the boyfriend and I moved in to our current place, they informed us that barring any problems it would be a quick and easy thing to renew the lease. Then we found out two months before the fact that the owner is coming back to do renovations and that we have to move out by the end of this month. The really infuriating part is that the owner told MA this over a year ago. 2) They neglect to tell their tenants important things. Not only did they outright lie about us being able to renew the lease, several weeks ago the owner came to our condo/apartment with some contractors to take measurements for the upcoming renovations. MA told us with only a few days' notice while the owners of the unit told them months ago. This is happening again, as this morning one of my roommates was in the kitchen when the contractor just walked in. Apparently he and the owner told MA weeks ago that they were coming back and MA thought that as measley tenants we didn't have the right to know. 2.5) This past summer, the unit next to ours had some flooding in the basement so there were workers there for about two weeks. The problem was that they had to use jackhammers and other noisy equipment and always started at about 7 in the morning. Boyfriend works nights, which MA knew and still knows. When we asked them why they didn't tell us that this work was going to be happening, their very snooty response was "it's the unit next to yours so we are not obligated to tell you." As if sound and echoes and physics don't exist. 3) Our entire unit is old and the electrical is iffy sometimes, but our basement (where the boyfriend and I live) is the worst. For some reason there are outlets in the floor, and one of them exploded. We called them, they got an electrician over to repair it, no biggie. EXCEPT then they tried to charge us for the repairs. Eventually they paid it, but it was a battle. 4) When we moved in the heater apparently had a bad thermocouple (or something, I don't know a lot about that). We didn't find this out until the heat went out one cold December day, and so we had to be the ones to take care of it. Luckily they did foot the bill but it was an ordeal. 5) There are a couple people in the office who are wonderful, but there are several who are incredibly rude and act like we are inconveniencing them for daring to pay our rent with checks, rather than online. Also, instead of printing a new lease agreement (we have had a lot of people in and out of our unit) when someone moves in, they scratch out names and write in the new ones. It's a mess. Employees are rude and after asking on the phone on 4 different occasions and twice in person the 15 or so people in the office have no manager or supervisor ever on duty. Please be careful when moving in with what you sign and check behind things for mice because I was told it is not their responsibility. Bad bad unprofessional company. read more

Invasive, unannounced intrusions into your rental property. Quick to file for eviction when an inspection is not satisfactory. A simple sweep of the windowsill by hand that yields some dust, and you may face immediate eviction. Upon end of rental, in a pristine professionally cleaned environment, this sham rental agency will never return your deposit. They are rude and inconsiderate in person, and use inappropriate language when speaking to renters. They are unwilling to compromise or cooperate and acquiesce when rational arguments or complaints are voiced. This is one rental agency to be avoided at all costs. The management of the agency is obnoxious and unyielding, and the office staff are less than receptive. The employees are more of a hindrance than they are helpful. They police renters as if they hold authority over your life. Avoid this agency at all costs. I retained an attorney and filed against this agency just to maintain my privacy and prevent them from harassing me. Be aware before you rent! read more

This was my first time renting and boy did they take me for a f***ing fool. Charged a CRAZY amount for deposit, rude service entire time renting from them and on top of all that, they charged us $250 for "cleaning" after our move out date. We left the unit cleaner than it was when we moved in and they charged us for damage/unclean garage (2x4's and screens FOR THE WINDOWS AT THE UNIT) that we're left behind by previous tenant, and fish pebbles being in the sink which was clogged upon our move in. (No pets allowed btw, and they patrolled our unit often enough to know that we abided by this rule) I already posted an HONEST negative review but was asked to take it down. Very shady and would not recommend. So glad that I never have to deal with these people again. read more

Stay Away! They don't even adhere to their own contracts. I had a problem with a water heater and according to their own contract was supposed to be notified on repairs over $250. Instead the first I heard of it, was the day they issued checks a month later. Long story short, their only interest is getting their money and screwing the home owner. As a homeowner who has had work done by one of their contractors, I recommend Management Associates. They were prompt, courteous, and reasonable. I worked with Dustin and Erin for a year when I served on my HOA board of directors. They attended every meeting. Erin's communication skills are top-notch. Both worked very hard to implement our decisions and direction. Good job! read more

I rented from them over 5 yrs. ago they charged me for blinds when I moved out,which my dog did destroy,but you can drive by the property today and the blinds have not been repaired.Also if you would like to see how they manage properties drive through Hawks Ridge Condominiums on Kagy st. or 505 s. 20th st.. They take renters money but do not for damages done to properties and pocket it instead of doing repairs. I know several other people who have had similar experiences with these pukes. They delete all the reviews on Facebook. If you still want to list with them or rent from them I would urge you not to and wish you good luck..aspen properties is a good option. Management Associate manages our daughters HOA in Bozeman. I was at her house when early one morning she found a "not so nice" note TAPED to her front door telling her of a violation and if she did not correct it in 3 days, that a lien would be put on her house! WHAT! What unprofessial company leaves threatening notes for the people who employee them, in the cover of night? I would never recommend these people to manage any HOA! Really disturbing and dishonest business practices. Pretty sure the guy who signed the letter is not a very nice person, either! read more

If it were possible to give a negative rating i would give this company -5 stars because I'm certain that they come as close as is humanely possible to breaking Montana leasing law daily without having an attorney on speed dial. IF YOU DO RENT from this company, heed this warning and KEEP EXTENSIVE RECORDS OF ALL YOUR SIGNED DOCUMENTS AND INTERACTIONS with these people and be sure to ROUTINELY CHECK THE STATUS OF YOUR LEASE EVERY MONTH because the odds are high that they will change it, they will charge you, and they will keep money from you even after you aren't on the lease any longer. I got almost all my security deposit back but was charged for not cleaning blinds that were broken when I moved in. I was told they probably wouldn't replace them so they still needed cleaned. The house was cleaner when I left it than it was when I moved in but it was only $40 cleaning fee so I paid it. Also, I was charged for a carbon monoxide detector that wasn't there when I moved in. Piddly annoying stuff but nothing too terrible. When I had an appliance break it was replaced in a few days and the staff was generally pretty nice to me. I did get written up for having patio furniture on my patio which also is pretty dumb but not a huge deal. read more

This is a terrible rental company do NOT rent from them! Employees are incredibly rude over the phone and in person. When repairs are needed, they take a ridiculously long time getting to it. When taking over the lease from the previous tenants they failed to tell us that when our new lease came into affect that they would be raising the rent. We are paying way too much for a place that is in bad shape, has not been well taken care of at all. We had a gas leak and they didn't help us or seem to care one bit. How does this company get away with not making repairs and keeping security deposits based on bogus repairs????? The basement bedroom flooded with sewage and they would not repair it or provide accommodations for the person in the bedroom. They charge renters insurance and make claims and keep the money. This is insurance fraud. Charging for blinds seems to be the way they make a lot of money. This past June the owner as well as Management Associates made a lot of insurance money and bullied all of the tenants without ever contacting the co signers (parents) who stupidly signed the lease. And by the way they created an illegal bill and never sent it to anyone. The owner will NOT return phone calls and refuses to answer emails. The staff who answer phones and emails seem clueless. I know finding places to rent in Bozeman is hard, but if there is any way you can avoid renting from Management Associates, I would highly suggest it. Both because they don't deserve your business, and having to deal with them is going to cause you lots of stress and money. My roommates and I moved into a house that was falling apart and had holes everywhere, and when we moved out (leaving the house cleaner than when we moved in), they charged us hundreds of dollars for repairs to damage we didn't cause. When we tried to argue the charges, they were very rude and hard to get in touch with. They made us jump through so many hoops during every process (moving in, moving out, getting the security deposit check back and addressed to the right person, getting anything in the house fixed that needed fixing, etc). Rental properties in Bozeman are a joke, as are the companies that manage them. Our occupancy rate is close to 100%, making it almost impossible to find affordable housing. This particular company has raised our rent twice in the last year with promises of exterior repairs and improvements. Nothing done. They hire maintenance men who don't actually know what they're doing, cut corners, and generally make things worse. They are very slow to respond to maintenance requests and even hire men to do the lawns who are either blind or lazy. They are quick to accuse tenants of causing damages, even those due to general wear and tear. Don't complain, however, because that can get ugly. Don't even get me started on the lack of affordable housing in town where pets are allowed. Impossible to find. It would be nice to find a management company that cares as much about their tenants as they do the owners. read more

Worst company I have ever rented from!! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! They are completely unhelpful, rude and childish!! I made multiple complaints to them about neighbors that I had issues with, they did nothing at all to resolve the issues. I had to make complaints with the police dept and made complaints with them weekly. They refuse to answer questions or be helpful over the phone. Every single person in that office that answers incoming calls need to learn some customer service skills. They are all very rude, bitter, short and refuse to let you talk when trying to inquire about issues. They are absolutely ridiculous in their expectations of how to leave your rental. They expect a 25 year old unit to look brand new. The place I rented was cleaned to be spotless, in better condition than when I left it! Their inspector bitch of a lady was 30-45 minutes late and then was rude, snippy and claimed the unit wasn't clean enough. We went back through and cleaned the things she claimed weren't good enough. The place was pristine! They did the reinspect and claimed it was filthy and tried to say I left a bunch of trash and furniture behind when in fact I didn't!! They overcharged me for rent and tried to say I broke a lease and didn't give them notice that I was leaving. I didn't break a lease and I gave more then proper notice. After arguing with them over the phone I was able to recover the portion of my deposit for the overcharged rent. The ladies in the office are unbelievably rude!! When I would call - they wouldn't even let me finish a sentence before flipping out and getting rude and treating me like I can't read. They even act like children by refusing to respond when I asked questions. I informed them of laws they broke in multiple areas and they just talked over me and yelled about how this is their job and they know what they are doing. They came up with bogus late fees and cleaning and repair charges as well. They try to keep as much of your deposit as they can scam out of you!! I have never had so many problems with a rental company as I have had with them!!! Every single other place I've rented from takes care of issues and complaints immediately and has returned 100% of my deposit saying the place has been left nicer than they have ever seen before!! Based on the number of NEGATIVE reviews on this site alone the issue is clearly with management associates and NOT the tenants. This company needs to be shut down or run by a new set of people.
