Cute little store with nice employees. I assume it may be an adequate store for those who are very familiar with Indian culinary. I needed 3 basic Indian seasonings but i was only able to find 2. The store didn't seem to be organized well as spices were not all in the same area... The shelves were not maintained well & in general, the store was a dusty, dirty and a confusing mess. After leaving the store & doing more research, I learned that the item I was looking for 'Carom seeds' is also called 'Ajeain' which I remember seeing on a shelf. When I asked the woman if they carried Carom seeds, she clearly didn't know that they actually had it. I'll also mention that parking is very limited. I have been driving by Manakamana Grocery for quite a while and wanting to stop in. My Nepalese banker told me they had some of the most authentic street food in Colorado and it was his go to shop for cooking supplies and lunch. Today, the stars aligned as they were open and I was hungry. I first went into the grocery store to purchase the makings for sambhur, one of my favorite Indian dishes. The owner's daughter and her friend were a tremendous help as we looked up one of the ingredients. It is called Lady finger and looks like okra. We started talking about all the additions and remodeling going on in the store. In the near future, they will have everything for you to make a great Indian meal or stop in for a snack. And they also offer beauty supplies and Hindu statues. We then moved outside to the food truck. I already knew I was going to get pani puri, an Indian street food. They were 4 for a $1.00! As the pani puri were being made, we talked about all their offerings including their favorites, a cross between India and China chow Mein and the momos (dumplings). These young ladies want to open a small café with their aunt cooking wonderful Nepali, Indian, and Chinese influenced food. They talked of creative offerings like Bison momos and I offered that I would love to see paratha, a stuffed Indian bread with creative stuffing. This is not McDonald's and everything is created fresh so allow a little time. I was told the chow Mein takes 15 minutes, so order and then go inside to shop. And my pani puri.....it was wonderful. Light puffs filled with a stuffing of lentils and tamarind chutney served with a spiced water sauce. And at this stop, it is OK to drink the rest of the spiced water. I am very fond of the ladies who own this shop and food truck; I love seeing them dream better and more offerings. They have a steady clientele of local Nepalese and Indian patrons; I hope to see a steady clientele of Yelpers as well. read more

** Note: This review is just for the food truck, not the grocery store. ** I really wanted to like this place. Pani puri in Denver? A tiny local place with quick, affordable food that I can just stop by for pick-up? Yes please! Drove here the other day for pani puri because it's one of my favorite foods in the world and this place is pretty close to where I live. I got two orders of pani puri (8 pieces) and two samosas. The good: The pani puri tasted alright, with a decent heat level (this is gonna be too spicy if you don't like spice, be warned). The mint water was flavorful, just what I was expecting. Didn't take too long for them to get my order to me, although it took longer than it should have, considering the samosas came out STILL FROZEN, which leads me to.... The bad: Pretty much everything else, sadly. As stated, the samosas were frozen and they didn't even cook them all the way through before handing them over. It was also pretty embarrassing to give one to my friend only for her to find a HAIR in it. How a hair got mixed in with frozen samosas, I'm not sure, but - gag. Also, if you're looking for traditional Mumbai pani puri, you won't find it here - they were very tiny with super hard shells, not light and crisp the way I was expecting. Definitely nothing like what's in the picture on the truck; and they also didn't give any chutney with them. To finish this review - I don't typically take away points for bad service because most of my favorite places are little hole-in-the-wall joints, some of which have abysmal service. I don't sweat it if the food is incredible. For those of you who care about this, I stood outside of the food truck for a very awkward five minutes or so (the women working inside definitely saw me) until someone came out from the shop and told me that I could order inside the shop - then he took my order and I paid inside. So if you want to order from the truck, I'd recommend just going into the shop and telling the cashier what you want. But don't get the samosas. read more
