At a Mid-Autumn Festival pop up they had a stall with lots of Asian foodstuffs. I bought ba-chang or zongzi which is sticky rice dumplings with pork inside, eu-char-koay, and sesame buns. Then I went back for the crab and crawfish when I was ready to leave. Never had those before so I thought I'd try it. The zongzi was not the Chinese version and it was not my favorite. The eu-char-koay or youtiao is a deep fried step of dough and theirs wasn't fresh so it was only ok. The crab and crawfish were pickled it seems and they were fine. The corn on the cob included I didn't like. It was fun trying different versions of food I grew up with but not sure I'd get them again. This store has a lot of Asian foodstuffs which I haven't been able to find at other stores in the Denver metro area so I like to visit them. Super old Asian supermarket. they carry all the fresh veggies but they are a little overpriced in my opinion. All of their other pantry staples are also a little overpriced. Their kiwi brand knifes and kitchen utensils were double the price vs GW supermarket which is down the street. I think only upside to this market is that the people were friendly. read more

Be careful when buying fruit from this establishment. My wife and I have gone to this business many times over the years and haven't really had an issue until yesterday. My wife bought a Fruit called Durian, which in the U.S. is very expensive, she paid $55. This stuff is sold at this store for $12.99 a pound. When my wife asked about the fruit they immediately told her that you can't open it and if it's bad we do not give refunds and you can't bring it back. Basically they knew the fruit was probably bad and they do not guarantee the food they sell. When she was finally able to open the fruit after she bought it, she saw that the fruit was spoiled and could not be eaten, when she called to ask if she could replace it or get a refund they said NO, we do not guarantee the food they sell... they do not care if you complain and are running a shady business. Obviously an awesome place to get ingredients for Asian cooking or unique products not found in conventional grocery stores. Great prices as well. They have a pretty large frozen section dedicated to faux vegan and vegetarian meats. I saw shrimp, chicken, fish, ham, duck, drumsticks. Some of the items are in fairly large blocks and look like they may require you to experiment with cooking techniques to get it right (as opposed to your flavored and textured Gardein products that are all ready to go). read more

There's not a ton of Asian markets in Denver so this one will have to take the cake for my go to Asian grocery needs. They sell che and prepared foods as well as meat and fruits like jackfruit, mango, rambutan, longan, and lychee. They sold a big bag of cherries for under $2 and 2 boxes of strawberries for $1.60. That's cheaper than in California even though the strawberries came directly from California. This market is multi leveled and is pretty small compared to the Asian markets that I am used to in San Jose. Despite this, they offer most of what I need. I saw a wide selection of frozen shrimp and colorful sticky rice that may at first appear to be tacos. Today was the first time I had ever seen neon pink sticky rice. I'm just happy to have found a Vietnamese market at all. read more

The store a wide variety of items but it was extremely cramped. It was like everything was piled onto each other. It was very hard to navigate around the store due to the excessive amount of products. The staff here is also extremely rude. As the cashier was checking me out, he was talking to his coworker saying very negative things about me. He didn't even try to hide it. Absolutely the bestest Asian market ever! I find myself here every week. A "quick" trip to Little Saigon usually takes an hour or more. I can only really repeat what others have said - it's a little cramped, not terribly well-organized, not terribly clean, some of the staff are downright rude, but it has pretty much everything you could ever possibly want for Asian cooking, all under one roof. I'm no expert on stores like this, but what sets it apart from anything I've seen before is the fresh produce section - it is absolutely fantastic, carrying your everyday kitchen staples like carrots, cabbage, spuds etc to all kinds of exotic fruits and veggies, all at crazy low prices. The fresh meat and fish section is also amazing. I'm not even going to bother looking for someplace else to get my Asian market fix - this place has it all! PS I'm not sure it's entirely Wheelchair Accessible - the aisles are pretty narrow, and would be tricky to navigate when it's super busy. read more

I go here regularly for Asian produce, like bean sprouts, kaffir lime leaves. Thai basil, ichiban eggplant, etc. But as another reviewer pointed out, their produce prices are half of what you pay at the large supermarket chains. Great place to buy garlic, shallots, and, of course, ginger. Their meat and seafood counter is very clean and everything is iced well: no fishy smell. Also a great assortment of Asian seasoning, and even take-out deli products. Douchebag cashier is rude, a liar, and bullies customers.  Also this place won't accept credit card as a payment method unless the purchase is over five dollars, even after you have made a couple hundred dollars worth of purchase just minutes ago.  The store is small and looks ghetto.  This place also does not have a restroom. I would rather drive a few miles further and go to Viet Hoa Supermarket instead.  That place is much bigger and have more selection.  The cashiers are nice and they accept card payment regardless of the purchase amount.  They also have a restroom customers can use. read more

The have rows of fresh Meats, Fruits, Vegetables, Herbs, Seasonings, Soy Sauce, Fish Sauce, Noodles, Rice, Soups, Booths, Drinks and fresh Soy Milk. The store also carries lots of exotic fruits like Lychees and Dragon Fruit when in season. When the fresh food is out of season you can probably find them in canned. When you shop for canned foods, look at the price carefully - and pay attention at the checkout - they usually charge more at the checkout and when confronted, they get pissed off and won't even listen to the customer! Even though this little grocery store is disorganized, somewhat dirty, and small, I really like it and the staff that works here. It is family owned, so I definitely want to start supporting this one versus other ones that I have in the past. In general, I can find EVERYTHING I need to cook traditional Vietnamese food, thus the name Little Saigon lives up to its name! The staff here is always helpful too, the little ladies and the son that started working up front always help me find stuff when I ask which is nice. On a recent trip I asked the staff in Vietnamese (maybe that's what they want to hear?) if they could get me fresh "Bac Ha". It's called elephant ear or taro leaf in english, but yeah I asked them if they could chop me some fresh ones and they totally did! It was really nice of them! Also the lady in the back who was making fried tofu let me choose the fresh ones and wrapped it up for me to take home. This is also a gem when it comes to finding hard to find Vietnamese vegetarian frozen packaged foods that you cannot find at any other Vietnamese grocery stores. My vegan cousin told me to come here specifically to buy everything she taught me to make and I started coming here after my sour experience at Pacific awhile back. I really like this grocery store and recently they've made an effort to keep things cleaner and mop the floor. I remember growing up and my mom would take me here and I'd buy the snacks and cookies. I forgot about this place and I have since gone back to buy my groceries here. It's really a tiny store but you can get in and get out with all your ingredients pretty quickly, which is what I like. Also, they have hot lunch served throughout the week and they make fried samosas and egg rolls by the cash wrap. These are not that great but suffice if you are hungry and need a quick snack before you drive home. They're also pretty cheap. Three tiny egg rolls for a dollar? Something like that. read more

Little Saigon can be a really cool place to shop if you know how to play by their rules. Here are my TOP FIVE TIPS for shopping at Little Saigon: 1. CHECK EXPIRATION DATES. I cannot stress this enough. Sauces and mixes are the most common culprits for being past their prime. If you can't find the expiration date, steer clear. 2. Stock up on your fresh herbs and veggies. Why pay $3.99/lb for red bell peppers at King Soopers when you can buy them here for less than half that price? Why pay $6 for a sprig of basil from Whole Foods when Little Saigon has it by the baggie for a buck? True, some of the stuff may be barely recognizable to the broccoli-n-carrots crowd, but go nuts and get yourself some fuzzy melon or baby bok choy. Even if you don't like it, you didn't spend a lot. BONUS: they almost always have long beans (the exotic hipster cousin of the trailer-dwelling American green bean). 3. Check your attitude at the door. If you're the type of person who rolls with the rednecky, "it's America, dang it-- y'all should larn t'speak AMERICAN," crowd... or even the snooty, "sigh... I just can't get any GOOD HELP around here *sniff*," crew... well, Little Saigon may not be your place. Lose the sense of entitlement, be willing to spend some time searching for what you want rather than demanding that someone hold your hand and escort you to it, and you'll be much happier here. 4. The squeamish need not apply. Little Saigon won't win any awards for cleanliness, and their fresh fish and meats department can be downright scary. If this sort of thing freaks you out, you'd better stick to the packaged foods area. I'm serious. Don't even venture down that ramp. 5. Experiment!!!! If you can't read a single word on that jar of sauce (except the all-important expiration date-- see tip numero uno), give it a try! Happy Happy Shrimp Crisps? Oh definitely! A pleasant surprise next to one of Denver's authentic dim sum spots. Most definitely a departure from all of the American (new) restaurants and stores around town. The timing of this discovery couldn't have been better - a friend was coming over for dinner and stir fry was on the menu. What better place to find sprouts, fish sauce, peanuts and a few other necessary ingredients. Imagine our surprise to see that they also have Cafe du Monde coffee for sale, which is a Vietnamese treat in any US city! We will be back for sure, even if it's to pick up some new tableware. Now I know what it feels to be a white person walking around in an Indian store. Us Asians (particularly the first-generation ones) have a habit of remaining completely and utterly silent if we don't know who you are. We'll look you right in the eyes and stay quiet. Stare at you from obscure corners of the building, still watching, waiting...in silence. Meanwhile, you think either a) you've committed what's considered a felony in Vietnam, b) you've walked into a place you're not wanted or in extreme circumstances, c) you're going to die. None of them are really true. This "Asian" silent treatment phenomenon is 99.8% due to a language barrier and .02% cultural/other. The latter might be a result of hostility towards Anglo-Saxons/Europeans because of their good ol' colonial days. And in some Asian countries, you just don't speak unless you have something of value to say. Onto the pros of this place: 1. For starters, they have my 3-in-1 milky tea with the horrendous English printed on the side of the box. I love my black tea with milk, just like the good ol British colonizers taught my great-grand parents. But since college, I've gotten pretty lazy. It started with boiling the tea in a proper kettle, boiling the milk to accompany the tea and then mixing the two. Then I started throwing the tea bag in cold water and nuking it in the microwave. Added the milk, then nuked it again. And now, thanks to Little Saigon, I can dump one packet into hot water and I'm done. 2. They have the fruity lychee jelly candies. I inhale those mothers like nothing else. And at $1.19 for the entire bag, Starburst (Mars Co.) might be a little concerned. 3. They have all the ingredients you need to make Japanese Baked Mussels with the infamous "Dynamite" sauce. I'm not really sure how much of the Yelp community this last point concerns, but nonetheless. And the cons: 1. There were unidentifiable, disgusting white creatures with frilled gills and furry bottoms packaged up as "MISC" in the meat department. 2. Most items weren't actually where the signs (one-fourthin Filipino, one-fourth in Vietnamese, one-fourth in English, one-fourth crossed out) said they would be. 3. I know I'm of Asian descent, but it sucks when I can't ask a question because no one knows what I'm saying. So be prepared to walk in able to identify the "MISC" from the items on your grocery list. 4. The meat and seafood department looks like 19th century Chicago before the FDA was created in 1906. Other than that, I'll be headed back for the tea, lychee candy and mussels I really can't find anywhere else. And maybe someday, if I learn enough Vietnamese, I'll dare ask what "MISC" was before they butchered it and plastic-wrapped it for display on the ice box. read more

What do you do on the day before Thanksgiving when you promised dozens of traditional Chinese spring rolls to your friends and family you are also introducing to your Chinese girlfriend? Come to Little Saigon Supermarket and get everything you need (well almost). This grocery is in the Far-East Center and while not the largest Asian grocery in town, it is well-stocked and organized. The produce section is really great, having a lot of really cool looking produce you don't see at King Soopers plus having it at pretty low prices. Fresh herbs are a steal here with fresh basil, cilantro, lemongrass, chives, etc., at much lower prices than you can get at a regular grocery store. The meat section was big but didn't have the ground pork we needed so oh well on that. But they did have the spring-roll wrappers we needed and all the other sauces and accompaniments. Since the GF lives in Parker which doesn't have a close-by Asian grocery, she decided to take advantage of Little Saigon and stock up on her favorite grocery items. They had a surprising depth to their products, stocking not just Vietnamese essentials, but products from Thailand, Korea, Chinese and even Indian cooking. The customer service was also quite helpful with the women explaining that the "Indian curry" packet was actually the needed garam masala, which upon further inspection appeared accurate. read more

I love to browse around in here. I find everything from the irresistible gotta-try-it to the fascinatingly odd (jars where the contents are looking back at you; for example, the tiny shrimp). Exotic to mundane, sometimes badly translated or not translated at all, but always interesting convenience foods, mixes, sauces, and all the things you need to make great Asian food from scratch. Emphasis in this store is on Vietnamese and Chinese foods, with a good bit of Phillipine and Indonesian stuff as well. Lots of Thai, too (thanks, Daniel, for the reminder). Low prices on nice produce and on Vache Qui Rit cheese. The only problem here is that you find a great product, return to buy more, and the brand is gone. I guess that's a hazard with imported foods like these; you'll find something similar but it may or may not be as good as the product you fell in love with. In many Asian groceries, you'll find jars that apparently have overrun themselves, dripping goo onto their labels and not looking safe at all. Much less of that here. Also, most of the seafood department looks hygienic and adequately chilled, and it doesn't stink of fish. Be sure to look at the ready-to-eat foods at and near the checkout counter. There are some real steals, always delicious. I was there recently on a Sunday, and the amount of ready-to-eat food was probably tripled on that day. Also, they have the best price I've found for Hi-Chew candy, addictive for its almost bouncy chewiness and sprightly fruit flavors. read more

I went here expecting fantastic things but when I arrived, I was pretty disappointed. They do have lots of Asian food items but I just couldn't find everything I needed. The place isn't the cleanest and checking out sort of sucks. It's like a free for all when trying to find a checker to ring up your items. I was pushed out of the way 3 times by some old Asian lady. I'm all about respecting your elders but lemme tell you something old lady, get in line! :-) I will say that I'm Chinese and I was expecting more Chinese/Taiwanese products but found mainly Vietnamese items which is probably why the store is called Little Saigon and not Little Shanghai. The produce is extremely fresh and really cheap so I may have to come back for that but I will need to go to 88 Asian Market more because they have more of what I need. read more

I'm always surprised by what you can find in Colorado. Little Saigon Supermarket is no exception. Food: As the name suggests, you'll find all sorts of Vietnamese items in this market. If you want some Thai curry mix or pho soup base, they have shelves and shelves of the stuff. There is cookware in one of the back aisles and plenty of tropical produce prominently displayed in the central portion of the market. I've heard this fruit is unbelievably delicious so my coworker and I wanted to try a bit. The woman working the cash register was nice enough to rip one out for us since we kept debating on whether or not we should buy some in front of her. It sort of went downhill from there. Another guy working there cut the mangosteen open with what seemed to be a pretty dirty knife and said some questionable things to us. And while the fruit was absolutely delicious, some parts of it were decidedly rotten. We still had to pay a crap ton for that fruit.... Atmosphere: Man, it is not clean in here. I can remember going to the Chinese markets in San Gabriel Valley as a kid and becoming a hypochondriac immediately after stepping through the door. That's what I love about Little Saigon. You have to do a bit of searching to find what you're looking for, though, and I've never gotten any help from the staff. They typically stay near the registers. That aside, it's one of the only places to buy more exotic foods that you can't find at King Soopers or Safeway or any of the other places in town. read more

Local Asian grocery store. Good place to go for a deal on cans of coconut milk (79 cents), or rice noodles (1.39). I'm of course comparing to Safeway, not other Asian groceries. They also have candy, cooking utensils, scary looking unlabeled wrapped meat, pigs feet, chicken feet, various frozen pieces of marine life, and cheap curry paste. With the closing of the neighboring market, it seems that the owners of this market have really upped their game. They're fully stocked with all kinds of good stuff that you won't be able to find elsewhere (including H-Mart). So far, this is the only place that I know of in Denver where I can find my beloved instant vietnamese coffee (can't live without it!!!). They've got a great (if somewhat poorly organize) selection of housewares and dishes, so you can find some really good stuff tucked away in various corners. My only beef (lol) with this place is their seafood department. Don't think I'd be comfortable with bringing home any of the fish here for fresh sashimi, but maybe I should check it out earlier in the morning before I put my word on that. But pretty much any time I've been here, the seafood department has failed to impress. Great selection of interesting produce, full of things that you'll be scratching your head about. It was here, at this asian market, that my boyfriend and I began our *epic* adventure across Denver (and its suburbs) for the exotic delicacy, balut. If uncertain, feel free to google but pictures may be relatively disturbing, FYI. I, myself, was not interested in eating balut-- but my boyfriend's brother is in the service and had been craving this like mad; he was obviously tired of over-processed American foods. By reading my awesome intro, you can tell that our adventure did not end at this first stop. My boyfriend's brother apparently has a certain affinity for chicken balut, and not duck balut. Which-- Little Saigon-- did indeed have the duck variety. Although we were dismayed, we walked out with a package of 100 oysters for $55. They were a bit small, but tasted okay [I'm not much of an oyster eater, so I probably am not the best judge. You think I would be since I live in Seattle :/]. Like everyone said, it's a bit small and cramped full of little asian snacks and delicacies. And lots of things in jars. But it was fun, the people were nice. This is the best place to get Vietnamese groceries and to-go food in Denver that I've found. They don't have banh mi or pho, but they do have spring rolls and all of the random dishes that are a mix of sticky rice, meat, and stuff you can't identify. Between this place and the bakery a couple doors down, there's also the full array of Vietnamese dessert food too. The downside is the meat/produce section, where a lot of the non-frozen stuff looks less-than-fresh. However, the frozen fish is a pretty good deal--I bought a bag of "MISC" for less than a dollar a fillet, and it turned out to be perfectly edible tilapia (I think). A lot of other reviews have complained about the customer service, but it isn't appreciably worse than Asian grocery stores in other cities. read more

Located in the Far East Center, this market offers up some of the most unique grocery items that you aren't going to find at any king Soopers or Safeway. I'm an adventurist eater and open to many different food items, which is probably why I like this place so much. An enthusiast for Asian spices, sauces, curries, and marinades to experiment with in my cooking, this place meets my needs. Soy sauce and teriyaki as the only option at your local King Soopers just doesn't cut it. I could spend hours in here, and often times do, just looking at the obscure candies, bottled fish pastes, and, oh yeah, the meat and seafood options. Don't imagine you'd find a quarter of this stuff at any supermarket chain. Chicken feet, gizzards, jelly fish, tripe, and a lot of unrecognizable and unmarked items line this section of the market. Even I am a bit leery of a lot of the items in this section, but hey, I'm sure it's all good. Why must the Far East Center be so far from me. This is my favorite local Asian market in Denver. It has character. It has freshly-made tofu and Asian pastries + deserts. It has cheap jackfruit and FROZEN COCONUT MILK (miles better than the pasteurized and preservative-laced canned stuff). The produce is pretty fresh, the fish is frozen and more questionable... but then again, all the fish outside of pricey places like Whole Foods is. I've spoken with the manger to request an item and she was friendly and helpful, not surly and dismissive - as is fairly typical in some Asian businesses. Overall very recommended. I love that Denver has some semblance of a Little Asia. A wide variety of Asian cuisine can be found within about a mile on South Federal, including some incredibly authentic Vietnamese and Thai. Sprinkled among the dining are several grocery stores, including Little Saigon. This small store is stocked to the ceiling with an array of spices, sauces, curries, and exotic imports. A few items were familiar to me from the shelves of Whole Foods, and they were literally a tenth of the price here. They also have a less-well-stocked produce section, and hefty meat counter with more basic american cuts as well as harder to find items such as chicken feet. The store loses a few stars based on cleanliness; suspect it's been a while since the floors were mopped and I ultimately didn't feel comfortable purchasing non-packaged food. It wasn't enough to make me leave - I stocked up noodles, spices, teas, and six types of curry. Mmm. read more

Hard-to-find Asian ingredients at great prices... not much else. This is the only Asian grocer I've been to in Denver, so my only comparisons are to some pretty fantastic ones in the DC suburbs. Little Saigon is pretty small and not very well organized. Each of its 5 or so aisles in the dry goods section are jam-packed with a decent variety of ingredients for Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and some Japanese cooking. Everything is just piled on the shelves so you can spend a lot of time searching for specific items. The basics are easy to find. I went mainly for rice noodles... simple. There is another side of the store that has a small produce section, meat and seafood. I grabbed some veggies which look fresh, but I was a little afraid of anything else over there. The market is pretty dirty and had an overall aroma of urine. Those are two factors that will generally deter me from buying meat. The prices are fantastic and I'd go back for certain items, but I'm going to try a few more Asian markets first. read more

As you enter the Far East Center through the ornamental giant pagoda you will find this place on the left side. Inside, the place was chilly! so make sure you come dressed in layers as the staff are. What makes this place special in my books is that they carry quite an assortment of Southeast Asian spices (I found galanggal and lemon grass powder here) and other items like Blue Band margarine - commonly sold in Indonesia/Malaysia; and the other pluses about this place is that they are well stocked with Asian pots, more soup bowls and associated Asian cutlery than I've seen elsewhere in Colorado, and a sizeable amount of frozen/fresh seafood/meats. While the staff were helpful, I did not find Little Saigon Supermarket as well presentable for Asian foods as Pacific Ocean Martket Place in Broomfield, but I'd still hit this place up again. read more
