Those who work there arent exactly the most welcoming. I came to the location to do some research and spend the day at what I heard was a nice place. There was only one working toilet in the entire library for the public - which became quite awkward when I walked in on a VERY drugged up homeless woman who didnt lock the door. "Security" had a huge issue with where people sit at the desks and usage of the power strips for anything other than laptops (cell phone?! Ooh too bad, nope! Cant have that!), despite there being almost no one around in the first place other than a GIGANTIC homeless population inhabiting the fiction, teen department, and computer stations. Dont get me wrong- Im not naive to the idea that homeless people spend a lot of time at libraries and need somewhere to go. Ive spent a LOT of time at many different libraries in my life, so none of that shocks me too much. But it blew my mind my charging my phone at a charging station was much more offensive than the multiple homeless men sitting on the reading benches in the teen and fiction dept purposely watching women's asses as theyd try to browse books. Just not a welcoming, safe feeling place. Will never return. Just go to barnes and noble, they dont yell at you if you need somewhere to charge your own equipment. It smells much nicer, is much cleaner and likely 10x more safe.

The location is in the basement of one of the former mill factories. I really enjoyed information about how the river intertwined with the lives of local residents. Carpenter, the Association built and opened its present Research Center and headquarters building on Amherst Street, facing Victory Park, in the heart of the city. In 2001 the Historic Association opened the Millyard Museum in one of the renovated mill buildings. It is home to the permanent exhibit that tells the story of Manchester from the time of the earliest settlement to the present time. The Research Center, renovated in 2006, houses the Association's library and archives. The Research Center maintains a large collection photos, books, oral histories, ephemera, artwork, manuscripts, and other materials. The Association also provides educational programs for children and adults and organizes historic preservation initiatives.
