I loved learning about the process it takes to make bourbon and how Wilderness Trail got started and differentiated itself from other brands. The tasting at the end was delicious (don't forget to go back to the main lobby and get your bourbon ball) and there was a bar where you could grab a drink and cozy up by the fireplace and watch a game. I could've stayed there sampling all day. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for a full tour, but the tasting experience more than made up for it. The line into the gift shop was a little long (as expected at a popular spot), but it was well organized and moved quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout. I ended up leaving with several excellent bottles to haul back to California--definitely worth the drive and the extra weight in the car! If you're a bourbon fan, Buffalo Trace is a must-stop. Great atmosphere, fantastic products, and solid operations even on a busy day. We'll be back next time we're in Kentucky! Highly recommended. Cheers!

I stopped in at 11:00am on a Saturday continuing my weekend ventures to check out distilleries. I found so much more!! This is a classy winery that stumbled into making great rum, brandy and grappa! Yup, grappa too! Talked to the keeper a long time about hummingbirds, wine, grapes, the local region and the owners. They frequently have live music and make a variety of special entries though are known for their homemade wood oven pizzas. I had the best mojito ever and after sampling some wine and grappa I bought a bottle of wine, grappa and two bottles of rum. I could have stayed and talked to the host for hours but had to get home. An ABSOLUTE MUST VISIT! It's 3 hours away from home, but I'll make the trip back!

The tour was great, even though we had terrible weather with a big storm coming through. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of my questions without hesitation. The tasting room is super nice and there is plenty of space for a big group so you aren't crowded. I loved that they teach you about the different mashbills and how to tell which is which on their bottles. They have a lot of great items in the gift shop - I bought my dad a shirt and also got one for myself, along with a little baby snifter. Come check it out, you'll be glad that you did!

For those of you doing the Bourbon Trail, each distillery offers its own mix of pros and cons. This…read morereview is just my personal opinion and should be taken with the appropriate grain of salt. The initial impression as you pull into Wild Turkey is that this is a manufacturing and industrial site first and foremost. While that does take away from the initial "wow factor" as a guest, it is understandable. Once you get past that, you arrive at the visitor center, which has a view that is absolutely incredible and outdoor amenities that would make hanging out there quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the inside experience at the gift shop left much to be desired. We did not do the tour, so this is only based on the visitor center and retail experience. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly face and directed toward the gift shop. The bartender was friendly, but the other three employees had their heads buried in their phones and did not seem concerned with our experience or offering help. While that may not be unexpected in some places, at a location like this, especially after visiting Buffalo Trace earlier in the day, it felt very subpar. The bottle selection on the shelf was fairly standard and did not feel much different from what I could find at a local liquor store. Some prices also seemed higher than local shops. Of the 15+ bottles we purchased today, none were from here. We considered trying a flight or a few samples, but the prices felt more reminiscent of a downtown bar than a distillery tasting experience. While we were not on a budget, the feeling of being overcharged deterred us from moving forward with the samples we had been interested in. I will not say that I would never go back, but I would not put this at the top of our Bourbon Trail list either, unless maybe for the views and a picnic.
