I've done many tours at wineries and distilleries. The Woodford Reserve "Path to Flavor" is one of the best! Before the tour starts, use the restroom and grab some water or a "neat" sample while you wait....the welcome center is just that, "welcoming!" If you park at the Welcome Center, you'll need to walk back across the street or take the black shuttle. The tour... The grounds include some very old, well-seasoned buildings, and our tour guide gave us all the details. She was personable and knowledgeable, though it was hard to hear her at times, it's worth grabbing a spot up front if you can. What's really cool is that you get to view a working distillery in progress! This isn't some museum, it's the real facility. The "Path to Flavor" is well worth the price, particularly with the informed tasting at the end. If you ever make it on the Bourbon Trail, try this place. read more

Upscale, fancy, and the most expensive feel compared to the other distilleries we visited on the bourbon trail (Buffalo Trace and Makers Mark.) We didn't get a tour here, since they were already sold out. Follow the advice of all online guides and don't buy the basic tour in every distillery as it will be very very similar. If there were availability, I'd have gotten a cocktail class/more advanced tour here. Even with the bar area, gift shop, and the super cozy seating area, it is worth a stop. Also nice grounds in the back that has shade. Don't expect any elaborate food and plan accordingly. read more

This is a beautiful distillery but my least favorite tour of the three tours we've taken on this trip (Rabbit Hole and Stitzel-Weller were the others). There are two buildings and you check in at the one building, near a parking lot, but then get on a tour bus and they take you to the other building, which has the gift shop. It seemed a bit counterintuitive to start at the other building, then. Before this, I was super hungry, so we went to their bar area in the gift shop and ordered the charcuterie, which ended up just being like a metal box with some meats, cheeses, and other things, and a bag with a few pretzels in it. Disappointing especially for $33, although it kinda worked out because we only had a half-hour before the tour. I didn't know that Woodford Reserve has actually only been around since 1996 but the campus they purchased has buildings from 1890 and later - I would've loved to have heard more about that history even though it wasn't technically Woodford's. At the end of the tour, they return you to the gift shop and that's where you do the tasting - there is a private tasting room. I should probably note that we did the basic tour - it was $35 and my husband said you could get a similar tasting to the one we got, in the gift shop area, for $30, which made the tour only $5, which isn't bad. I did end up buying a pin, a magnet, and a sampler box of their bourbon treats (chocolates etc. - expensive, at $46 or so, but looks good) and my husband bought a few of their bottles. However, next time we are in Louisville we can probably skip this one, I'm thinking. read more

I'm not sure there were any "deals" like what you can get at Buffalo Trace, but I picked up some confectionery items and a bottle of their Wheat whiskey. Whether you are a bourbon fan, or not, touring Woodford Reserve is an experience we recommend. We took the distillery tour, exploring the historic buildings, learning first hand how they make their famous bourbon. Seeing and smelling the fermentation process was my favorite part (tasting the final product was the other favorite part for our group!). This is truly one of the most unique distillery tours we have done. The guides are knowledgeable, explaining the history and current process. A unique feature to see was the tracks that they roll the bourbon barrels around on throughout the property, using gravity so they only need a little nudge to get moving. After the tour we did a tasting. It's amazing how different each sample is from the other depending on the process. Learning the correct way to taste bourbon was also helpful... the more you know. Woodford was the first bourbon that I enjoyed drinking. I was looking forward to visiting Woodford Reserve. I should have done a little more research and ended up in Versailles, Ky. Which is where the distillery is located. The sign on the freeway is a little misleading. However, this was still a beautiful location. It was a beautiful building and very comfortable inside. The grounds outside were beautiful. I ended up getting a flight of bourbon, getting the traditional bourbon, a rye and my favorite which is the double oaked. My biggest complaint was the service that I got. I went to a lot of distilleries on my bourbon tour, and everyone was really friendly, but I didn't get that naturally friendly service from Woodford. She was not rude in anyway but was not super pleasant. I still enjoyed my visit. When I find myself back in Kentucky, I'll make sure I go to the Woodford Distillery. Woodford makes some great bourbon. If you're not familiar with them, please stop by whether you're at the distillery or not. I highly recommend the double oaked. read more

I have a confession... I don't love bourbon. Like it, yes, but I came here to celebrate someone's birthday so I wasn't expecting to really enjoy myself. We had a fantastic tour guide, Jeremy, that felt like a friend as he really connected to all the tour guests. The tour wasn't that long and I would have liked to see more but he was so informative! Sure, give me a history lesson but when he explained why barns in Kentucky aren't red, that was neat. During the tasting I was amazed at being able to smell the differences! I also very much appreciated the (very small) tasting to pair with the bourbon samples. Back at the visitor center/gift shop/bar I bought a drink and didn't realize it came in a souvenir cup, so that was a nice surprise. We had the BEST time in the mixology class, and I didn't even think I liked bourbon. I learned how to use bitters and different mixes to make five different varieties of old-fashioned drinks. It was a great time with my family. In the middle of bourbon country so we had to take a tour. This is the brand used for the mint juleps at the Derby. It's set back in some beautiful countryside. Took a little bit to get there. The tour was awesome ending with a little taste of their product for those tht were interested. We toured the fermenting area, the barrel storage and barrel making areas. They are pretty much self sustained. They have a great guest area with snacks, drinks and all kinds of items for purchase. Was a very good and informative tour. read more

This distillery wins the beautiful location award. What says Kentucky better than horses and Bourbon? This may have been my favorite distillery. The staff was so amazing and accommodating. The distillery tour is about an hour long but really flys by. The guides are so knowledgeable. The bar, gift shop, deck area is a terrific place to relax with a drink and fabulous charcuterie board after your tour. This is a definite stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The grounds are beautiful and our tour guide was great. We took The Path to Flavor Tour. This was the one distillery that had a non-drinking tour option which cost $28 compared to the $35 for the tasters. It was a rainy day, but you are transported by a nice bus so we didn't mind the rain. The shopping was ample, but the bottles were actually priced higher than our local liquor store- so that was a bummer. They do have a bar in the shopping area and we had amazing Old Fashioned drinks. There were comfy chairs and a sofa by the fireplace and we sat and enjoyed our drinks. We learned something new at each distillery and Woodford Reserve did not disappoint. Beautiful facility and very accommodating to our group of 6 with a handicapped elder, pregnant woman, and small toddler. It was very hot so the shuttle was very appreciated. At the end of the tour, I waited in the gift shop area because the toddler couldn't go into the tasting room. They still gave me a voucher to get a sample at the bar while waiting. This establishment is state of the art, classy, and beautiful. We came as a party of two during the week. Making reservations was difficult as Kentucky is known for the Bourbon tour areas. Because we were traveling from out of state, we missed our reservation time and ended up getting drink vouchers, which were not as much as the tour itself. The staff there were friendly, even though there were long lines and a busy atmosphere. The bourbon and whiskey flight that we had was fantastic. I am only giving this place the four stars because they could not accommodate two people on an additional tour as well as letting non-service dogs in the building. Firstly, this place is beautiful! We visited on a chilly but sunny fall Saturday and were blown away by the leaves and colors of this site. The buildings are gorgeous and showcase the history of this location. The tour starts at the visitor center, and your bussed down to the distillery area. You can tell based on the people at the reception desks and the tour guides that they love this place and think very highly of the brand. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about bourbon and the history of the distillery. She answered all our questions expertly. I felt should could have been more warm to the guests, but still we learned a lot over the hour. Over the tour, you get to see the fermenting house, the distillers, where they store the barrels, and then end at the tasting house. Unfortunately they do not distill or fill barrels on Saturdays, so we did not get to see the track or distillers in use. It is easy to see why Woodford has such a great reputation. The distillery and its grounds are amazing and I can understand why the employees love it there. There could have been more warm and welcoming feelings from the staff, and the gift shop is a bit bare, but overall it was a cool visit and we would still come back for a more in-depth tour or just to enjoy the view. read more

Beautiful day for a tour at the Distillery! One of my favorite things to do with guests from out of town. They are so beautiful, fun, relaxing and interesting. A really unique experience to Kentucky! It is fun for even the locals. Always put a distillery tour on your list for out of town guests! Not so much family friendly, but sort of. Kids cannot do the tastings, so make sure someone can hang with the kids in the gift shop. They aren't too long. They do have an elevator for people in a wheelchair to get to the different levels. Bar Review Only! Ventured into Woodford Reserve toward the tail end of their opening hours. Their main building was beautiful from the inside out! I loved the organized retail areas and separation of retail & bar counter. My dad and I both got a whiskey flight and tried all varietals offered. Our favorites were the Double Oaked. My second was the Rye and his the Wheat. My fiancé also got the Double Oaked Old Fashioned which was delicious! Perfectly sweet to balance out yet pair with the Bourbon flavor; not too harsh on the palette either. The only downside was all bottles sold in the retail area, we could also purchase at home. Distilleries seem to close kind of early (4pm on Saturday even) so we were happy to make it here in time to enjoy a tasting. The signs outside point the completely wrong direction to park for tastings (says right when it's to the left). So after parking and walking into a building that wasn't actually anything we then went to the correct building. It's a big open space with tables, couches, fireplace to hang out and a water station as well. I wasn't sure what to do but the bar staff was really nice and just showed me the menu. There were a couple different tasting options and then they give you a board and let you drink at your own pace. It's kind of nice to just do that sometimes and not be talked to the entire time. I can see the appeal in this style. It gave us time to sit, drink, and mingle with other patrons. This is a brand we're familiar with as well but went ahead and bought a couple bottles to take home (different from what we usually buy). It was a nice country drive as well. read more

Booked an innovation tour for my husband's 42nd birthday. Very informative. We were able to go into all the distillery parts and the tour guide explained how the whole process worked. It was really cool. Even got to try the bourbon mash and bourbon make. The Distillery was very rustic and filled with history.
