I had low expectations.....Chinese food in Rome.... I mean C'mon, Italian vs Chinese cuisine! Boy, was I wrong..... I'm from the Bay Area, grew up in San Mateo Ca; Szchechuan Flower, Szechuan Restaurant (N B st) Canton Gardens (Stockton ca), All which no longer exist were, at least to my liking, amongst the best! Mandarin Garden will be added to that list. If in Rome, and you feel like trying out a different cuisine, give this place a try! The food here is excellent!! The flavor was so delicious and my family is very picky. We ordered a little of everything which was the best idea. Each and every dish was bursting with flavors. I could not stop eating it was so good. Not only was the food fantastic but the service was exceptional. The waitresses were so kind and the manager/owner was very nice. They treated my kids so nice. You should make reservations because if it is too crowded they will turn you away but that is only because they have limited capacity and don't want you to have to wait longer. The restaurant was super clean and the price was extremely reasonable. The air conditioning was also a huge plus!! I will be back for sure next time I come to Rome !! FOOD- 4 STARS given because the food was good! SERVICE- NO STARS- the owner needs an attitude check! I have never encountered anyone like her before. We had gone by to see if they had a bar, they did not, so we left. But we had asked the middle- aged gentleman that works there to see if we can order takeout for later. He said yes as long we come back by 10:30 PM. So, when we came back, we asked the lady (owner) if we can order takeout, she flat out said no! I walked out immediately to find the young man that we spoke to earlier, and he was able to let us order! As we were seating there, waiting for our food, another waitress wanted to help us, but she told her not to! WTH?? We also witnessed her blow her nose loud, (mind you this was happening right in front of us) and did not wash her hands! Then she started picking her teeth with a toothpick! Located near Via Veneto in northern area of the city. I came in for dinner on a weeknight without any knowledge of the place but the positive was it's conveniently minutes of walking from the Marriott Flora Hotel. We were fortunate to get a table since they were quite busy even for a Tuesday. Being from southern California U.S. I'm spoiled with great and reasonable Chinese restaurants. The interior is upscale decorated and spotless including the bathrooms. They offer complimentary Internet which worked efficiently. We started off with crab asparagus soup and followed with spicy shredded pork and pepper beef. Overall all of the food was very tasty and the right portion for two. The total tab including hot tea and rice was $49 euros. I would recommend this place if you're craving for solid Chinese food in a nice atmosphere.They also accept credit cards. read more

Like many others, we were craving something non-Italian after almost a week in Italy. This place was just around the corner from our hotel, so we tried it out. Might not have been the best idea as it is a very quiet restaurant and we had a baby with us, lol, but we enjoyed the food. I do think they make things a little on the saltier and saucier side, but I understand why they do that -- it's better than having customers think your food is too bland, even if it does make it a little less "authentic". My wife liked it so much that she later ordered dinner from here to go ... twice! read more

Delightful Chinese restaurant in Rome. The service was excellent compared to other restaurants my family and I dined at. The waiter was helpful and gave many recommendations and pricing since some things such as fish were charged by the weight. My only con about this place was they charge 2Euro for each bowl of white rice, I'm not sure why it didn't come with the meat dishes we ordered. Coming from the USA it's hard to fathom the idea of having to pay additional for rice when it's always free when you order entrees at authentic and non authentic Chinese restaurants. Other than that we really enjoyed the meal and left full. I could be wrong but if your Chinese there may be a chef speciality or off the menu items you can ask for. This may sound terrible to say but after many days of delicious pasta and pizza around Italy my family and I were craving something different. Granted we are Asian American and generally eat a Chinese dish (either at a restaurant or home cooked) several times a week and therefore such a craving isn't surprising. We were pleasantly surprised with this place and agree with the other reviewer who praised it's authentic flavors. We had the steamed shrimp dumplings and pork bao which were both very good. This place is almost on par with Szechuan restaurants back home in New York! Title says it all pretty much. Let me preface by saying that my wife and I brought both sets of our parents to Europe on vacation. We are all Chinese and two of our parents only really eat Chinese food. Thus, we have been searching for Chinese restaurants pretty much every city we've been in so far. After 3 separate failed attempts at getting even mediocre Chinese in Rome so far, we were skeptical about this place from the reviews on Yelp. But let me reassure you, if you like actual Chinese food (not General Tso's, which is NOT Chinese!) and especially Szechuan style spicy, then this place is a must go. I would give this 4 stars back home in the US, but here in Rome it's definitely a 5 star. Portions are actually pretty good, definitely larger than most. Definitely recommend the sliced beef with vegetables in chili oil, or chicken, or pretty much anything on their menu that's spicy, we ordered all of it to try and all were good. A couple things to note: 1. Don't be scared off by the prices, they seem a bit high but the portions are much larger than you'd get anywhere else. 2. Rice is $2 a bowl 3. Was craving Chinese food after an overload of Italian food. This place was not far from our hotel. It's much fancier than I expected for a Chinese restaurant, being that I'm used to New York fast food Chinese restaurants. I had the general tso's chicken and shrimp fried rice. Both were very good. Good portion for two people. A but pricier than expected but hit the spot. I wish they made this version of general Tso's in NY as opposed to the breaded one. The pan-fried dumpling appetizer was nothing special, the sauce for it, bland. We shared the classic general Tso's chicken and spicy pork. They tasted identical; a nasty brown sauce, likely gravy of some sort and no spice, not even garlic. In this city, a dish without garlic when it should have some is practically a crime. A couple next to us took one bite of a whole fish. The girl turned pale and sent the rest back. They paid and promptly left. A dated old place, the matchy, matchy wallpaper and draperies looked to have survived a few centuries, without good reason. My wife and I we're ready to taste something other than Italian after two weeks in Italy , although the food here in Italy is delicious. We ordered chicken corn chowder and hot and Sour soups. They both were very tasty. Also the Fried rice was good but very pale. It had the consistency of sticky rice with a few peas and small bits of meat. The entrees were a different story. I ordered General Tso's chicken. It was not the same as at home. Had a vinegar taste but I ate half. My wife overheard the waiter saying to another table that this was an American dish. It was OK but not what I was used to. Thank goodness the portion was small. My wife ordered almond chicken. Again, not bad but very much different from USA normal. Very very bland! Overall it was expensive, the staff was not very friendly and the food was so so. However, the locals seemed to love it as there were many eating there. The service I experienced was no different than the service I've had elsewhere in Rome. The food was fantastic and the flavors were very close to what I've had in China. I'd say the dishes might be a bit pricey but they seem on par for the area, we were a table of 7 and ate for less here than other "Pizzerias" we ate at. read more

The food tasted good, however some wasn't available, particularly the char siu baos and Pan fried buns. The food is moderately priced but comparable to a pizza at another restaurant depending on what you order. We had pork dumplings which were delicious. The general zos is different from the general tso in the USA, but it was pretty good. The sweet and sour pork was good but also different from that in the USA. Overall, the meal was pretty good. The food is good. As a person who travels a lot I have become accustom to things being different. The wonton soup was good. The wontons are small but ok. There is nothing else in the brother besides the wontons. The generals chicken was good as well. It had some spice which is what I enjoy. There was something I had not raised before in the sauce but I enjoyed it. The beef with scallions was enjoyable as well. It really had no bold taste to it. It says quickly fried and e meat was a bit more chewy then I expected, but I would order it again. The service was very slow. Took forever to take my order and get a drink. I seriously enjoyed this meal. I got so sick of pizza and pasta and had a feeling for Chinese so we gave it a try. The food was delicious and not too expensive. We ordered mushroom soup, lo mein, sweet and sour pork ribs, and crispy duck, along with Jasmine tea which was very good. Everything was great.
