We came here for dinner on the last night of our visit to Rome. We specifically wanted to find a Sichuan cuisine restaurant because we had too much Italian food and wanted to have a change. The food here was delicious, especially the sour fish dish that we ordered. Our favorite was Suan Cai Yu, which is a hot and sour soup made with pickled mustard greens, Sichuan peppercorns, and fish fillet. The broth tasted so good that we actually drank it all. The ambiance was alright. They had AC but it was either not turned on or not at 100% thus it was still very hot for us. We visited in the end of August, probably my the hottest time of the year. Overall I think this is a nice restaurant and would recommend if you are craving for Chinese food or Sichuan cuisine. read more

I am a tourist in Rome. After visiting the restaurant, I don't think the current 3.5 stars doesn't justify their reputation. This restaurant does offer authentic Chinese food. It you are a western who Is used to American Chinese food, you will probably be surprised by the selection in the menu as it doesn't have those stereotype Western Chinese food. If you have been in Italy for a while and begin to crave Chinese food, Tin House is definitely one of the best option to visit. My parents eat Chinese food on a daily basis but the food at Tin House blew them away nonetheless. We opted for the traditional ordering menu and selected a variety of dishes from Szechuan soups to meat dishes. The portions were massive and you will definitely leave the restaurant with your tummies full. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is prompt. I do not recommend this restaurant. the staff was unfriendly and talked with obvious disdain (especially the two waitresses). We ordered the all you can eat menu, they had not bring the order in full, after waiting 40 minutes we asked about the dishes that wasn't delivered, to which we were told that the ingredients had run out. This Chinese-American family was so pleasantly surprised with this really legit Szechuan place in Rome. Our dad who prefers Chinese food over all other food was really craving Chinese food after 6 days of Italian pasta, and Tin House didn't disappoint. We got fuqi feipian, which had the right amount of spicy, plus peanuts, which went so well with the beef and tripe. Then came our shui zhu yu (boiled fish), which had tons of peppers, good fish (though with bone, so be careful), and happily, noodles at the bottom. We also got hong shao rou which was delish. Nice fatty bits and nice meat bits, plus dried/fried green beans. Our soup was a winter melon and pork rib soup, which was very "clean" and comforting. And we finished with gan bian si ji dou (dry fried green beans, though ours were snow peas perhaps) and ma yi shang shou (vermicelli noodle with minced beef). Also great were the menus which included ping ying in additional to Chinese. Subtracting one star for slow-ish service, but I guess we're in Europe and plus the restaurant filled up really quickly past 7. Tons of Chinese people in the restaurant as well. read more

As I was craving Chinese food and was staying nearby, I wandered in here one weekday evening. The location is very large, with multiple levels. Apparently it is a fusion Chinese/Japanese restaurant, which is odd to me, personally. I was mostly intrigued by their 19 euro dinner meal, which basically consisted of a variety of menu items of your choice. I ended up getting hot & sour soup, shrimp tempura sushi, shrimp egg rolls, and a chicken noodle dish. The issue with the latter was they misunderstood my request for chicken and gave me pork instead. When I asked them to fix it, they got very flustered and took it back. About 10 minutes later, I got the chicken noodles I ordered. Overall, the food is just fine. Nothing bad or nothing really that exciting about it. There is also wi-fi available. read more

Had pasta, pizza, and meat for almost 3 weeks straight in Italy, thought I should try something different. Got the all-you-can-eat buffet for the varieties. Not buffet style, but individual made to order. Asked the waiter about portion size, and was told very small compared to the full size order. Well, they are much bigger than what I expected, so really didn't try many dishes; not sure if it's worth it for the all-you-can-eat price. All dishes, except the steamed rice, were very salty. All you can eat is 15/person which is fairly a good deal for sushi eaters. The quality is good if you order sashimi, but if you order something that's cooked, they tasted like reheat food from the freezer. Additionally the speed is super slow. This place offers buffet with their Chinese/Japanese cuisine. But at the same time, if you don't want to do buffet, you can order a la carte. Please note that they have 2 separate menus. One containing Chinese/Japanese and one Szechuan. We came around 7 pm and had to wait 10 minutes before being seated because the host was absolutely ridiculously busy having a conversation. After 10 mins, the host walked away, chatted with another man who then proceeded to tell us to follow him. We were seated on the other side of the restaurant..or as we and other non Asian guests like to call it...the rejects side So this is where it gets confusing. We decided to do buffet style and order a la carte off of the Szechuan menu. The host tried his best to explain how the buffet works in English. He gave us a graph paper, then tells us that one side is to write down what we want to order from the buffet menu, and the other is if we want to make more than a single order of the same dish. Then he left. Another group came in after we did. Lucky for them, they spoke Chinese and received their orders right away along with drinks. The rest of us sat there and watched while the waitresses pace back and forth to their table. Anyways, we eventually flagged down the waitress who nodded to acknowledge us then walked away. Husband called her over and she finally asked us what we would like to order. We handed her the paper that we had written the food on and she took it and never brought it back. Fast forward...The food was mediocre. I recommend avoiding the buffet and the Chinese/Japanese menu and go straight to the Szechuan menu! Sushi wasn't bad and the all you can eat is certainly a plus which is what keeps them from a 1 star rating. Found this Chinese- Japanese -Thai restaurant with fairly good reviews so we decided to try it. We walked in and nobody explained anything about the all-you-can-eat menu versus the order menu. The menu we looked at had prices so we thought it was the regular menu but when we learned it was the all-you-can-eat menu, we ordered more food. We waited and waited and waited. These people will deliberately hold off placing your order for a long period until you can't wait anymore. Terrible service. I could have bought more food from the regular menu than the other for the same amount. All I can say is I can't stand business who offer all-you-can-eat and deliberately slow serving you. We were pretty hungry one night after a visit to Venice. While walking to our hotel we stumbled upon this little gem. Didn't expect much for a late night sushi joint. We were pleasantly surprised how fresh and good the food was. Super creative rolls, very good rice, fresh tuna and salmon. The all-you-can-eat deal is the best you can ask for in the area. Horrible service! Was hoping for good all you can eat sushi. We arrived and immediately got sat in a middle table that could not be reached by the waiters. The two tables on either side of us arrived well after us and received all their food before us. We did not order anything complicated which is the frustrating part. The two tables next to us ordered a ton of food, ate it all and paid before we received our food. After we approached the staff about the food, they did not nothing. Stumbled on a surprisingly legit Sichuan restaurant on our way to the forums. The restaurant decor and the tables are kept tidy and clean. The dishes, especially the stir fried pork intestines, are authentic and delicious! The downside is the service is as bad as can be - impatient even when the place isn't busy, and unwilling to explain anything about the dishes. After spending a week in Italy, we were really craving something other than pizza and pasta and came across this place just near the metro for lunch. They actually offer a buffet but we didn't feel that hungry. We ordered a hot and sour soup, salad with tofu, and roast duck. The soup was not the best we've ever had but it hit the spot. The roast duck came out unexpectedly in sweet chilli sauce. Again far from the best duck I've had but quite acceptable. The tofu salad portion was quite small and didn't come with any Asian greens. The best part was that the prices were very reasonable and the total for all three dishes plus bottle of water was only €20 and no cover charge. Overall - Nothing fancy but if you're craving some Asian flavours in Rome, this place is worth visiting for a good value meal. read more

I live in the neighborhood and had high hopes as I watched this space transform from a pizzeria to a Chinese / Japanese place. I took one for the neighborhood and tried it. I give this place that is neither Chinese nor Japanese one star only because zero is not an option. On a recent visit, I ordered shrimp dumplings as an appetizer and chicken with almonds as a main course. After twenty minutes and apologies from the waitress, the dumplings arrived. Within thirty seconds, so did the chicken, which was cold. The rice I had ordered was not in sight. The dumplings tasted only of salt. The manager later admitted they were frozen, although this was not disclosed on the menu, in violation of Italian law. In the end, I walked out. The manager made all kinds of excuses, from being busy (they were not) to a misunderstanding (which they could not articulate.) Bottom line: if you want food that costs €5 a plate, you will get what you deserve. There are plenty of better restaurants in Monti, and better Chinese or Japanese restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Do not waste your precious time or money in this place. read more
