I was really looking forward to my appointment at Adam Broderick in Southbury and had high hopes of…read morefinding my new go-to salon. Unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. I arrived a few minutes after my appointment time - maybe 10 minutes at the most, which I know isn't ideal. When I checked in, I was given a robe and waited to be seen. While I was waiting, I didn't get the impression that there was an urgent time constraint. Beth greeted me warmly, and we sat down for a consultation about the haircut and color I wanted. However, after discussing everything, she told me that we had run out of time and that she would no longer be able to do my hair. I was shocked. While I understood that I had arrived a few minutes late, I never imagined that would result in my appointment being canceled after I had already checked in, waited, and completed a consultation. She also asked how I had booked the appointment and commented that she dislikes when people book online. As a first-time client, I had no idea I was expected to book a specific way or that scheduling online could create an issue. I rearranged my schedule for this appointment and was genuinely excited to finally get my hair done. Instead, I was left feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and dismissed as I gathered my things and left. In all my years of getting my hair done, I've never had an experience where I was turned away after arriving, checking in, and beginning a consultation. Sadly, this wasn't the welcoming experience I was hoping for as someone new to the Southbury community.

For my wedding day, she truly went above and beyond. My hair was everything I dreamed of -- the color was perfect, and the updo was stunning. It stayed in place all day and looked amazing in every photo! Ashley is the real deal -- she's so nice, caring, and down to earth. She has such a calming presence, which made getting ready on my wedding day so relaxing and fun. She made me feel confident and beautiful, and I can't thank her enough for that. She also did an incredible job on my daughter, my mom, my mother-in-law, and my maid of honor -- everyone looked gorgeous! We all felt so special thanks to Ashley's talent and warmth. If you're looking for someone who is not only skilled but also genuinely kind and passionate about what she does, Ashley is the one. I'm so grateful she was part of my wedding day -- I couldn't imagine trusting anyone else with my hair! THANK YOU! I also had an amazing tan done by Anthony, who works there as well. He's fantastic--not only did he give me the perfect glow for the wedding, but he also cuts my daughter's hair with such care and skill. We've been trusting him for a long time because he always does a great job. My whole family is huge Save Your Scissors fans! From haircuts, extensions, color, to tanning, everyone always leaves feeling confident and cared for. The welcoming atmosphere and talented team keep us coming back again and again. -Melanie

All but two of the most recent reviews refer to Sandy Hook Hair Company, which closed in 2019 (see…read morehistory description) after nearly 25 years. The owner, Bonnie Fredericks, retired and the stylists work elsewhere. Salon Newtown is part of an expanding franchise (https://www.whipsalon.com/franchise). This franchise location was bought in 2019 by a stylist known as Marcelle Tiffany. The salon is tastefully decorated, making most of the limited space. Parking is easy. Of note, the salon is acting as a trailblazer of sorts ... participating in the Local Green Salon initiative, in which chemical-contaminated metal waste from color treatments are recycled. Wondering about the name? In a Nov/Dec 2019 SalonToday.com article, the franchise founder, Amy Pai, claims it's a slang term for hair. As it's the first reference I've come across, perhaps it's a term she created to help the franchise stand out. Adding to confusion, the "slang" term is popularly used as a verb in salon promotions (e.g. #getwhipped ) , inviting speculation about the origin of inspiration. Definitely brings attention!

I couldn't recommend Diana and GiGi enough. 5 stars!
