The hairstylist, Nesa, was super friendly and gave me the haircut and the blowout at different times, two weeks apart. I did not go in with a reference picture and just asked her to do whatever she thought would look best. I was not disappointed. I was a little bit confused about the price of the blowout v haircut. It struck me as strange that there was only a ten dollar difference between the two, given that when I had the haircut, the blowout was included in the 80 USD I paid. I have never had a blowout as a separate service (in any salon) before, so I don't know if this is typical. This is a very unassuming salon in a university neighbourhood, with a ten dollar discount for students (unsure if this is just for UChicago students: call and check). The ambience is clean but unexceptional. Overall, I recommend this place. Of the other hair salons I have been to in HP, I have liked this one the best.

I do feel like their staff go out their way to make sure the customer is comfortable as well as heard. Anytime I have no idea what I'm scheduling, they'll walk me through what to book and the prices are upfront. This particular review is for my daughter's most recent hair appointment, the requested hair style was knot less large braids. I would say scheduling was easy, but after scheduling for a Saturday afternoon, I was texted by the hairstylist to let me know that I was "waitlisted" and was asked if I can come in earlier during the week, luckily I had some wiggle room in my schedule. Anyways, things were going well my daughter was checked in and provided a kid smock and was nice and comfortable. After,I left is when things took a turn. While I was out, apparently I was contacted by whomever to ask about a $40 detangling fee. Unfortunately, due to poor cell service in the area I did not receive any calls or text until I was able to get reception. After getting the text messages, Albiet a couple hours late, I returned the messages and explained that not only did my daughter not have braids for months, but I had already detangled her hair twice to avoid this issue. I already know how these type of salons operate & I am very knowledgeable about how to detangle coily hair. It seemed to me that this salon attempts to nickel and dime you for any and everything. It was very alarming that the hairstylist couldn't tell the difference between human hair and synthetic hair. She mentioned the braiding hair was "soft". Then proceeded to ask me if I wanted to curl the ends of the hair. I think it's telling. Anyways; they tried to lessen the blow by saying they will only charge $15 or whatever for their "detangle" fee. At that point I just wanted to get out of there. I won't attach any pictures of my daughter's hair but once I was almost home I noticed several of the braids were crooked and the braids itself look sloppy. The worst part about the whole ordeal was the text message response I received this evening which echos some of the other reviews that some of the staff here is very unprofessional. It was in response to their automatic survey request of which I briefly summarized my dissatisfaction with the service. Instead of leading with curiosity and understanding to see what could improved, I was met with a very negative response. If by chance the owner or whomever sees this, I don't want another snotty response like this. I've never been so disappointed, disrespected and demeaned as a person who genuinely wants to patronize these type of business.
