After waiting for an hour and 20 minutes, I was finally asked what size I wanted for my parts. Shortly after, I was informed that I had booked incorrectly and would be charged an additional $75 just to braid my roots. I did not make an error in my booking, and the website did not include the add ons section. The service costs $100 flat and does not specify sizes, it only clarifies the braiding of the roots of the hair. When attempting to add services, the site takes you back to the homepage instead of allowing you to enter details as with other services. Charging $175 to simply part and braid someone's roots is ridiculous! Additionally, my hair barely reaches my shoulders and isn't thick, and this does not even include a wash and blow dry. I have attached photos of the booking for reference. This was such a waste of time. I was patient while waiting for the hour and 20 minutes, and I don't even live in the area. I'm only giving two stars because the stylist was friendly. There is no reason why I couldn't have been asked about my booking during the hour and 20 minutes I spent sitting there. I was told that something could be worked out, but my original booking should have been honored, especially since my appointment was at 1:30 PM, and I didn't get into the chair until 2:40 PM, only to leave just 10 minutes later. This was my second time trying this place, and now I understand why I was advised not to go there.

I have came to EnvyMe several Times. Please go here if you want to eventually be disrespected. Their booking system is confusing and how they speak To people if there is a concern or question is completely unprofessional. The stylists are great, but they work for owner, and she isn't kind. After my last couple experiences, I will be finding a new salon. Tonight was the nail In the coffin. The way the owner and I believe her name is Teya speak to people is so unprofessional and the definition of gaslighting. I'm a loyal customer and I go to places for years for my hair, and I've never mistreated anyone and never had anyone treat me the way they have. I have a feeling the owner will respond very narcissistically and never own up to how she treats people. I wish this business owner the same energy she puts out into the world.

After going here for over a year, I now understand why people complain about the owner. If I could give the business owner a negative star I would. I had been going here for over a year and have referred at least 6 others here. But I recently experienced the most unprofessional, passive aggressive exchange ever. In May, I made an appointment for July 26th, with my regular stylist. I needed my hair done for an event and wanted to make sure I could get in. On July 10th the receptionist text me (didn't call) and told me my stylist had to cancel. I explained my situation and after I called the owner herself (who only previously sent a voice note), the owner put me on a waitlist for someone else. The reason for the cancellation (per the owner), "My stylist have lives and they want to go on vacation." (An easy fix to this is to black out days on the schedule for stylists so clients can't book). The next day the receptionist text me again (no phone call) and said an appointment became available (the appointment would be in 3 days) and I said I would take it. The receptionist asked me if I was able to bring my hair in a day before the appointment so the stylist could prep it and i responded "I will try, but this new appointment is short notice and my schedule may not permit this." The receptionist proceeds to tell me how it will take time out of my appointment if I don't and I responded with "I said I will try my best". The receptionist asked me if I was ok and then told the owner I was being disrespectful. The owner then sent me a long text (again, no call) telling me how I disrespected her staff and she was canceling my appointment (for a second time). She then proceeded to block my number. All of this because I said "I would try my best". Never in my life have I experienced something so strange and unprofessional.

Wash, blow dry, silk press, and cut on natural hair

Sierra did a wash, blow dry, silk press, and cut on my natural hair! I was super nervous going in because most places claim to be natural hair friendly but don't actually take the time to work with natural hair. Sierra took her time detangling and blow drying my natural hair and asked me several times if I was okay or if anything was uncomfortable for me. Also, they hand out SNACKS!!! Who doesn't want snacks during their appointment?! I was also offered coffee, water, or tea! The vibes were IMMACULATE. Whether you're extroverted, or introverted, like myself, the staff makes everyone feel comfortable and you can tell they all get along so well and I appreciate that! I will definitely be back to see Sierra!

Thanks @envymeteam! I feel so pretty!! Braider: @yanabraids

I cannot tell you how happy I was with my experience at EnvyMe (but Imma try!!). From the very first interaction on the phone with the owner of the business, Lalitha, I felt like a valued customer and was well taken care of. She was patient and kind and answered all my questions (I had MANY!) and was able to get me a braiding appointment scheduled for the very next morning for 9a, which I was not expecting but appreciated so much! The hair gods must've been smiling on me because getting an appointment within 18 hrs of your first inquiry call is a real rarity, but I still appreciated everything Lalitha did to get me scheduled so quickly! My braider (Yana) was AMAZING-- she did excellent work, was easy to talk to and I felt extremely comfortable in her chair even after having really bad experiences at other shops -- something that typically makes it hard for me to trust and relax during the first appointment with a new stylist. The atmosphere was welcoming, laid back, but professional, the music choices were fire, and most of all, I LOVED how evident it was on the face of every single client that I saw come in or leave the salon that they were having a nice, relaxing time and walked out feeling and looking like a million bucks. It's a business, yes, but what is more evident is that it's also women sincerely and happily supporting and uplifting other women in more than just esthetics -- the vibe uplifts the spirit too. That's not easy to find in a salon. The fact Envy Me is a space by women of color for women of color is also really special. I loved my experience and will definitely be back!

    Sew in install

Hands down, one of THE best salon experiences I have ever had. From my first step into the door, I was thoroughly impressed with EnvyMe hair studio. My stylist, LaLa, was kind, careful, and knowledgeable. She explained each aspect of my sew-in install with me-- deep cleansing wash and conditioning treatment included-- and made sure I was comfortable along the way. The entire staff was helpful and ran like a well-oiled machine. The ambiance was clean and gorgeous. They even had tea, coffee, and snacks available. ABOVE AND BEYOND! My stylist was wrapping up and had another client come in, so the owner, La, finished me up and got me styled. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I am so happy that I chose this salon for my install and will definitely be back. As long as I've got hair on my head, I'm going to EnvyMe!

Before Envyme. This is only SOME of the damage. Chunks of length broke off. I would brush my hair and long stands fell out.

Updated review so you guys can see the work that is done here. Again, I started going to Envyme shortly after moving to Chicago from very humid Florida. Needless to say...my hair had a hard time adjusting and within a couple of months started falling out due to the harsh winter weather. I literally didn't have time to find a stylist. Anyway, all of my edges (ALL OF THEM) around my head fell out and my hair was breaking along with them. I asked one of my supervisors (a lifelong resident) for some referrals and one of them was Envyme. The first photo attached shows some of my edges before going to Envyme. The rest show you where I'm at a little over a year later. I think a lot of salons claim to know how to jump start your healthy hair journey, and Lord knows a lot of products claim to do so as well, but this salon truly does what it advertises. I want to note that I have not done my own hair in this year long journey. Meaning, when my hair isn't in a protective style, I do not touch it. I go to the salon every two weeks for a wash, conditioning treatment, and whatever else my stylist thinks I need (trim, protein, etc). When it is in a protective style I wash, condition and dry my hair (that's it) I go back to the salon for a take out, wash, condition (and whatever else my stylist thinks I need). I'll add that I think getting protective styles in addition to treatments when I had silk presses really helped in the growth of healthy length. Booking is easy and prices are transparent. When booking isn't so easy (sometimes my job pushing things around and I can't book until last minute) La is there to help. I had to update this review after my last appointment because I'm in awe of the turn around my hair has made in literally a year. These ladies are so talented.

I've been growing my hair out for two years!!! I thought coming to this studio, I was going to get better professional services on how to care for my hair and to have my ends professionally cut. I had a silk press done by a big booty girl named MARIAH. She was so rough on my hair and detangled with a tangle teaser instead of a wide tooth comb and my hair smelled BURNT upon leaving the shop... After wetting my hair, my ends were ripped apart I had tones of split ends. I didn't see anybody here with natural LONG hair other than the receptionist. Most of the staff are really young so prepare. Upon first walking in your going to see some young hair braiders. They look like high school girls and in the back its small and looks like something put together in the back of somebody's tiny beauty supply store. However, the staff was nice but, there a saying when people are too nice it's because they have to be!! The owner is sarcastic, gossipy, and tried to charged me $140 not for layers, extra product, a spa style treatment but, for a simple silk press with no curls for my ends being ripped off... Great option for hair styling but, if your focused on the health on your hair, I've had better services at a basic hair solon charging me $75 dollars

My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.
