I have been coming to this location regularly for different braid styles, braid takedowns, as well as hair treatments and the employees as well as the manager are very kind and customer focused. I do feel like their staff go out their way to make sure the customer is comfortable as well as heard. Anytime I have no idea what I'm scheduling, they'll walk me through what to book and the prices are upfront. I also appreciate the various ways you can pay, and again they're very upfront about their policies. Check them out and see for yourself. Well, I never thought I'd be writing this but I guess I should have read the salon reviews about the manager/salon rep being rude and unhinged and "banning" people who complain about their behavior. Looks like they double down and reject constructive feedback from people who have had similar experiences so I won't hold my breath for a civil response. Up until now I had had excellent service from Jeff and the team and this entire interaction was so incredibly bizarre. I received a text this evening stating my appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning was in the "middle of Jeff's" day and asking if I could move it to accommodate an install. I responded that I'd made the appt to accommodate my work schedule and then provided a time frame within their request that I was available. What followed was a series of agitated responses like "who are you talking to like this" which is so weird because I gave my availability to change appointments and the repeated it. At this point, I thought, this has to be a spam account because nobody would allow someone to represent their business this way. I tried to remain calm while firmly requesting that I be contacted by a manager or my stylist directly because this was such a weird response. I requested the person not to contact me again and they said they would be canceling my appointment and that "Jeff was ok with it" since I was "being nasty". Luckily, there are many talented Salon teams in Chicago who have staff that can communicate effectively and resolve conflict but I am sad that this salon isn't one of them. read more

I left this salon with HEAT DAMAGE from a blow dry and after politely bringing this to the owner's (Lailitha) attention via text, I was immediately greeted with a NASTY ATTITUDE that was unbecoming of a business owner. She was rude, unprofessional, and lacked empathy. Background: I have been coming here for over 3 years but more consistently for 1.5 years. It took my 3 tries to get a stylist that I liked and did good work. However, after my most recent blow dry and trim, I got home and immediately started to notice signs of heat damage. I understand mistakes happen and while I'm upset about my hair, I was not mad at the stylist. I have been natural my whole life and do not put heat in my hair except when I go to a salon to get it professionally blow dried and trimmed. No press. When I texted the owner of this heat damage, she immediately got defensive and asked me to provide pictures of my hair in the wet state before I went to her salon. Why would I have a picture of my hair soaking wet before a salon visit??? When I finally found one from a few years back, she then moved the goal post and said this isn't enough evidence. Mind you, I went to her shop on Friday and reported the heat damage that SAME Friday (I washed my hair immediately after when I realized my hair smelled burnt). She finally offered me a protein treatment but when I inquired if it was free, she gave me a nasty and uncalled for response and then insinuated that I may have cause this heat damage and she can't confirm her shop did it. That is ridiculous considering I am a regular AND THERE ARE CAMERAS IN THE SHOP BY THE WASH BOWL. She then refused to speak to me on the phone and denied my ask for a refund after she got rude via text with me. She said she would give a refund if there was evidence so I asked her to check the cameras and ask my stylist and she is refusing to do so. She is a liar and unprofessional. After waiting for an hour and 20 minutes, I was finally asked what size I wanted for my parts. Shortly after, I was informed that I had booked incorrectly and would be charged an additional $75 just to braid my roots. I did not make an error in my booking, and the website did not include the add ons section. The service costs $100 flat and does not specify sizes, it only clarifies the braiding of the roots of the hair. When attempting to add services, the site takes you back to the homepage instead of allowing you to enter details as with other services. Charging $175 to simply part and braid someone's roots is ridiculous! Additionally, my hair barely reaches my shoulders and isn't thick, and this does not even include a wash and blow dry. I have attached photos of the booking for reference. This was such a waste of time. I was patient while waiting for the hour and 20 minutes, and I don't even live in the area. I'm only giving two stars because the stylist was friendly. There is no reason why I couldn't have been asked about my booking during the hour and 20 minutes I spent sitting there. I was told that something could be worked out, but my original booking should have been honored, especially since my appointment was at 1:30 PM, and I didn't get into the chair until 2:40 PM, only to leave just 10 minutes later. Their booking system is confusing and how they speak To people if there is a concern or question is completely unprofessional. The stylists are great, but they work for owner, and she isn't kind. The way the owner and I believe her name is Teya speak to people is so unprofessional and the definition of gaslighting. I'm a loyal customer and I go to places for years for my hair, and I've never mistreated anyone and never had anyone treat me the way they have. My personal stylist did a great job over the course of 4 different occasions. In general the shop has a warm environment. Lots of diverse talent. However, after hearing about an experience a dear friend of mine had with the owner Lalitha, I will not be returning. After successfully beating cancer I sent them here to start growing their beautiful crown back. The entire appointment Lalitha kept speaking openly about the breakage and damage and asking the client what was going on. Not knowing she'd just beat a major disease. Poor etiquette and just tacky. Even if cancer wasn't the reason, you don't talk about someone's hair damage like that. It's just nasty. I often hear her gossiping when I can come in and can tell she's very messy but again I was not being serviced by here so I just steered clear. Knowing this now, I don't think I'll be going back. Also please just look at yelp and google reviews for yourself and you will find her arguing with old clients. She lacks decorum and is just too grown to act how she does. read more

After going here for over a year, I now understand why people complain about the owner. If I could give the business owner a negative star I would. I had been going here for over a year and have referred at least 6 others here. But I recently experienced the most unprofessional, passive aggressive exchange ever. In May, I made an appointment for July 26th, with my regular stylist. I needed my hair done for an event and wanted to make sure I could get in. On July 10th the receptionist text me (didn't call) and told me my stylist had to cancel. I explained my situation and after I called the owner herself (who only previously sent a voice note), the owner put me on a waitlist for someone else. The reason for the cancellation (per the owner), "My stylist have lives and they want to go on vacation." (An easy fix to this is to black out days on the schedule for stylists so clients can't book). The next day the receptionist text me again (no phone call) and said an appointment became available (the appointment would be in 3 days) and I said I would take it. The receptionist asked me if I was able to bring my hair in a day before the appointment so the stylist could prep it and i responded "I will try, but this new appointment is short notice and my schedule may not permit this." The receptionist proceeds to tell me how it will take time out of my appointment if I don't and I responded with "I said I will try my best". The receptionist asked me if I was ok and then told the owner I was being disrespectful. The owner then sent me a long text (again, no call) telling me how I disrespected her staff and she was canceling my appointment (for a second time). She then proceeded to block my number. I cannot tell you how happy I was with my experience at EnvyMe (but Imma try!!). From the very first interaction on the phone with the owner of the business, Lalitha, I felt like a valued customer and was well taken care of. She was patient and kind and answered all my questions (I had MANY!) and was able to get me a braiding appointment scheduled for the very next morning for 9a, which I was not expecting but appreciated so much! The hair gods must've been smiling on me because getting an appointment within 18 hrs of your first inquiry call is a real rarity, but I still appreciated everything Lalitha did to get me scheduled so quickly! My braider (Yana) was AMAZING-- she did excellent work, was easy to talk to and I felt extremely comfortable in her chair even after having really bad experiences at other shops -- something that typically makes it hard for me to trust and relax during the first appointment with a new stylist. The atmosphere was welcoming, laid back, but professional, the music choices were fire, and most of all, I LOVED how evident it was on the face of every single client that I saw come in or leave the salon that they were having a nice, relaxing time and walked out feeling and looking like a million bucks. It's a business, yes, but what is more evident is that it's also women sincerely and happily supporting and uplifting other women in more than just esthetics -- the vibe uplifts the spirit too. My rating is a negative ZERO I had a great experience the first time I went loved my hair and service. When it was time for my touch up the appointment was confirmed but when I showed up they treated me horribly and said I had an attitude for getting the appointment wrong. I showed them the appointment time and how it was confirmed by them and they still told me I had an attitude. I live downtown close to north side and paid $32 each way in the Uber. I even asked if they had someone else that could do the retouch and just said no and basically kicked me out Once they realized they made the mistake someone came out and apologized and asked to rebook or wait. I declined because of how they treated me initially and this is what black businesses need to do better there are other places I can go. They expected me to accept there apology when it was clearly their fault and I would have if they didn't treat me so bad. I loved my initial service and hair but they are not the only place in Chicago that can provide this service. So sad how we treat each other. read more

The first time that I came here, I had a wonderful experience and loved the service I received. I decided to book again, since the experience was so great, but it was a totally different experience this time. I had an appointment at 9am for braids with one of their braiders. The stylist was late because apparently there was a staff meeting that went over. I waited for nearly 40 minutes before the stylist actually arrived, alongside the owner and other staff members. My stylist Landon did apologize for her tardiness, but because she was so late, my service did not actually begin until 10:40am, almost 2 HOURS after my scheduled time. I asked the receptionist what time I would be out, since my appointment was pushed back. After inquiring, the owner then decided to come over to me and offer what she considered apologies. Once my service actually began, the stylist Landon did do a great job on my hair, and I really do love the braids that I received. Once my service was nearly done, the receptionist came over to me and let me know that the owner, Lalitha, discounted my service by 25%. Once I actually completed the service and went to pay, the receptionist changed everything that she previously said entirely and now I was only getting 25$ off of my service. I was confused about this mix up, since nearly 20 minutes before she told me that I would receive 25%, so I did ask questions as to why the quoted discount changed. She claimed that the error in discount quoting was "her bad", and as I was leaving out of the door, I could hear her calling me "WEIRD" (how professional is that?). The workers, the owner Lalitha included, are extremely unprofessional, unprofessional, UNPROFESSIONAL. I tried to give this salon a chance, as I like supporting black owned businesses within my neighborhood, but the lack of professionalism was absolutely ridiculous. I got braids there once and responded honestly to prompts about my service. I said that the stylist was pleasant but that the information about the style that I was given from the receptionist was different than what the braider; and that the website wasn't clear l and in the end, I didn't get the style I came in for. I received a few promotion emails and decided to book again. Someone (I suspect the owner) called me to change an appointment I'd made online, she was nice nasty to the extent that I asked to have my appointment cancelled. Hands down, one of THE best salon experiences I have ever had. From my first step into the door, I was thoroughly impressed with EnvyMe hair studio. My stylist, LaLa, was kind, careful, and knowledgeable. She explained each aspect of my sew-in install with me-- deep cleansing wash and conditioning treatment included-- and made sure I was comfortable along the way. The entire staff was helpful and ran like a well-oiled machine. The ambiance was clean and gorgeous. They even had tea, coffee, and snacks available. ABOVE AND BEYOND! Updated review so you guys can see the work that is done here. Again, I started going to Envyme shortly after moving to Chicago from very humid Florida. Needless to say...my hair had a hard time adjusting and within a couple of months started falling out due to the harsh winter weather. I literally didn't have time to find a stylist. Anyway, all of my edges (ALL OF THEM) around my head fell out and my hair was breaking along with them. I asked one of my supervisors (a lifelong resident) for some referrals and one of them was Envyme. The first photo attached shows some of my edges before going to Envyme. The rest show you where I'm at a little over a year later. I think a lot of salons claim to know how to jump start your healthy hair journey, and Lord knows a lot of products claim to do so as well, but this salon truly does what it advertises. I want to note that I have not done my own hair in this year long journey. Meaning, when my hair isn't in a protective style, I do not touch it. I go to the salon every two weeks for a wash, conditioning treatment, and whatever else my stylist thinks I need (trim, protein, etc). When it is in a protective style I wash, condition and dry my hair (that's it) I go back to the salon for a take out, wash, condition (and whatever else my stylist thinks I need). I'll add that I think getting protective styles in addition to treatments when I had silk presses really helped in the growth of healthy length. Booking is easy and prices are transparent. When booking isn't so easy (sometimes my job pushing things around and I can't book until last minute) La is there to help. I have been going to EnvyMe for about a year and a half now. I have read the reviews and experienced the shop on a biweekly basis unless I get braids from the shop. ALL of the girls are very nice and welcoming. Most of them are HILARIOUS but never rude. La(the owner) has done my hair once and I loved it. The only reason I don't go to her is because she's out of my price range for biweekly services. I've read a lot of reviews and have seen the comments on how rude she is. That is false! I work with a lot of people and attitudes. She is far from rude. She is very direct and to the point. She focuses on her work and the client and makes sure the logistics of the shops (yes plural, multiple locations) run correctly. She also protects her girls! Which I admire because a lot people don't protect their most important assets. I started with one stylist who did amazing with my hair for a year but she moved. But after being at the shop for so long, I was committed to the shop because it was convenient, clean, welcoming, comfortable, and I knew who else I could go to and remain consistent on my hair journey. And they do great work! They all use the same products and work as a team. If my stylist couldn't wash or blow dry me. The other talented ladies could. I usually have never waited more than 10 minutes for my service. The longest I've ever waited was the weekend before Christmas. But I understood. EVERYONE wanted their hair done freshly for Christmas, so I waited! I have had cancellations from the stylist, because life happens, but they were always able to reschedule me with someone else who was talented and could do the job. The only negative thing is I absolutely have to make an appointment before I go or the person I want will not be available last minute. And to me that's a good problem to have. read more

I've been growing my hair out for two years!!! I thought coming to this studio, I was going to get better professional services on how to care for my hair and to have my ends professionally cut. I had a silk press done by a big booty girl named MARIAH. She was so rough on my hair and detangled with a tangle teaser instead of a wide tooth comb and my hair smelled BURNT upon leaving the shop... After wetting my hair, my ends were ripped apart I had tones of split ends. I didn't see anybody here with natural LONG hair other than the receptionist. Most of the staff are really young so prepare. Upon first walking in your going to see some young hair braiders. They look like high school girls and in the back its small and looks like something put together in the back of somebody's tiny beauty supply store. However, the staff was nice but, there a saying when people are too nice it's because they have to be!! The owner is sarcastic, gossipy, and tried to charged me $140 not for layers, extra product, a spa style treatment but, for a simple silk press with no curls for my ends being ripped off... My hair looks great!! I don't live here, but I came to Chicago for a friend's graduation and she recommended this salon to me. I booked an appointment online and it was quick and easy. The day before my appointment, my stylist called to ask if I could come an hour earlier, which actually worked better for me. After I arrived, it was a great experience start to finish. The person at the front desk as kind and welcoming. She offered me a laptop station so that I could keep working and a secure location to put my bag while I was getting serviced. Asada did my wash and steam. She cleaned my hair well and was funny and professional. Brianna was my stylist and y'all, my hair looks great!! I decided to have her style it curly and offered me three options for curly looks, which I appreciated. I don't know what is going on with this salon. Since braids have been added as a service the quality of service has gone down. You book a braid appointment and then you receive an email that your stylist isn't going to be there. Then you block her book so no one will book and you make sure those clients get appropriately scheduled. You have multiple people calling you to reschedule and none of them communicate with each other and the salon owner is unorganized and unprofessional. Treat your clients better. I came on cinco de mayo to get a silk press. The stylist had two other clients at the same time as me. All of the stylist left her there by herself to do everything while they went to eat tacos and drink. I got there at 3:45 and didn't get out until after 7. My hair isn't event that long yet. It's too much going on at this salon . They can not keep up with their appointments. They leave you sitting at the shampoo bowl or under the steamer because they are triple booked. Do better. I always wait until after several visits before I write a review on a hair salon, just in case the first experience was a fluke and so I can have several experiences to make a well rounded decision. Let me make this clear from the jump, there is no denying that Lalitha is talented. She knows hair and you are guaranteed to leave her chair looking your absolute best. Visit 1. Lalitha was under the weather but she didn't cancel on me at all, which was highly appreciated. As soon as I arrived for my appointment, Capri immediately took me to the wash bowl. She gave me one of the best shampoo I've ever received. She did not leave my head hanging in the wash bowl all day either - she was about her business! She got me under the steamer and then she blow dried my hair to prep me for servicing by Lalitha. Once I got in her chair it took no longer than 15 minutes for her to style my hair beautifully! So overall, I was impressed and couldn't wait to make my next appointment. Now, Visit 6. I absolutely love going here. My hair is healthy, shiny, bouncy and growing! Several friends and family have commented on how much better my hair has been looking and how it's starting to really grow. I think maybe the steaming has something to do with it, but idk. I was a little nervous about whether my hair would be heat damaged because I've been getting it silk pressed every two weeks. I'm happy to report that I just returned from Florida and that humidity and ocean water made it do what it do, and my natural curl pattern was fully intact!!! All I can say is wow. From the moment I walked into the salon, I knew I was going to be happy. The salon is beautiful. It is in such a cute space and it will shock you how nice it is. I feel like a lot of the nicer salons are usually tiny, there is plenty of room in this salon. I went super early and there was only 1 other person there, but even if there had been 5 other people, there was plenty of room. Capri did a great job washing my hair. I read some of the previous reviews on here and there were a few complaints. I don't know if those complaints were true, but you can tell that Capri and Lalitha do not want them to happen again. They have clearly learned from the complaints, because both of them made sure I was OK every step of the way. Capri was absolutely amazing and very gently with my hair. My hair felt great after she was done. Now on to Lalitha. She is amazing. She really took her time to explain everything to me. I felt so comfortable with her and she made it clear that I should not be scared to ask her questions. She even told me I could text or facetime her! I love that she made me feel important and that she truly cares about my hair. Now that I have written a novel haha, I should probably talk about my hair. All that I can say is that I did not get what I paid for I believe, not naming names they are not good with short hairstyles . My hair looked good until I got home and realized that it look like I could have cut my own hair once I got to my house and realized and noticed all the imperfections in my haircut I was devastated. read more

I've never been one to commit to one salon, until now. My first experience was several months ago when my hair was braided by one of the braiders, Yana. I enjoyed the vibe of the salon and my experience so much I decided to come back for a wash, trim and silk press. Tiffany did my hair this time and did an amazing job, and was a delight the entire time. Everyone was personable and made me feel at home. The owner was so kind and encouraging about my hair journey. I visited EnvyMe in July and had a great experience! This was my very first time going to a hair salon and I booked a silk press, a protein treatment, and trim with CYN. She was very gentle and gave me tips to avoid split ends. The best part is when I washed my hair a week later....MY NATURAL CURLS CAME BACK! Absolutely 0 heat damage and that is what worried me the most. The salon had a very friendly atmosphere and all of the stylists clearly get along well. When I walked in the receptionist showed me to the back, gave me a smock, and offered me beverages and sn I had such a great experience I plan on going back and maybe even getting some color. That's how much of a great impression they had on me. The only thing I would suggest is making sure the person shampooing your clients know if they have added any extras. The girl who shampooed me had no idea that I had booked a protein treatment until I had said something. In the end it got done but I would have been sad to not get the protein treatment. read more

Relaxing, Zen, Comfortable experience from the time I arrived until the time I left. Envy Me Hair Studio is such an inviting hair place. When you walk in you are greeted with a warm welcome and immediately guided to hang up you coat and relax. My appointment was scheduled for 5 and there was short transition time from entering until I was in the shampoo bowl. While waiting to be shampooed there is an area with tea and water. Lalitha was great. You get the sense that she really cares about the health of your hair. While she was working on my hair she asked concerned questions about the heat damage done to my hair and gave good tips and advice for restoring my hairs damaged condition.
